The Anko SL153B earned a 67% Expert Rating in CHOICE’s September 2024 coverage: a relatively better result among the Anko vacuums discussed there, but not a strong score in the wider vacuum market. CHOICE marks it discontinued, so its listed $49 price is historical product-record information, not a current offer. It may suit someone who already owns one and wants to understand its strengths and limitations; buyers looking for a new vacuum should compare currently available models instead.
What the SL153B review result tells you
CHOICE’s article, last updated 3 September 2024, reports a 67% Expert Rating for the SL153B and describes the result as “not a great score,” despite being among the better results in its Anko group. That makes it a modest performer rather than a standout recommendation.

| Stated power | 2000 W |
| Measured power | 1140 W |
| Measured dust-collector volume | 1.1 L |
| Reach from power point | 7.2 m |
| Weight | 4.6 kg |
The 2000 W figure is the stated electrical power, while 1140 W is CHOICE’s measured power figure. Neither is a suction measurement or a substitute for cleaning-test results.
CHOICE lists a telescopic wand, hose, carpet/hard-floor tool, crevice tool, upholstery tool and dusting brush in the supplied kit. The 1.1 L measured bin is relatively limited in practical terms: frequent vacuuming or larger areas can mean more trips to empty it. The 7.2 m reach and 4.6 kg weight are useful comparison points, but do not by themselves establish how convenient it is to maneuver or carry.

Other reports describe clogging, noise, an unpopular floor head, tipping, difficulty cleaning filters and concerns about durability. Those are individual experiences, not proof that every unit has these problems or that any failure is widespread. The mixed feedback is most useful as a reminder to consider how easily you can clear blockages, empty the bin and maintain the filters.

Filters, care and replacement parts
The Kmart-hosted Anko SL153B Rev 6 manual identifies the dust canister, hose, floor head, telescopic tube, upholstery tool, crevice/brush tool and other main components. It instructs users to unplug the vacuum before fitting or removing accessories and to ensure all filters are correctly fitted before use.
The manual does not establish a replacement-filter part number or confirm that compatible filters are currently in stock. Check the model marking and filter dimensions carefully before buying any replacement; do not assume that a filter advertised for another Anko vacuum will fit. The manual also prints a phone number for accessory replacement, but its current availability is not established here, so verify contact details with Kmart before relying on it.

Who should consider this vacuum?
If you already own an SL153B, the public evidence points to a basic, budget-oriented barrel vacuum with a modest overall CHOICE result, a small bin and mixed owner feedback. Whether it remains adequate depends on your floors, cleaning frequency and condition of your particular unit.
If you are shopping now, do not treat the historical $49 price as a buying option: CHOICE marks the model discontinued. Compare available vacuums using independent cleaning results—especially for your floor type—alongside bin capacity, emptying, reach, weight, noise, replacement-part availability and likely ownership cost. CHOICE’s general observation is that low-cost vacuums can have lower upfront prices but may use parts that shorten service life; it is not a measured lifespan finding for this specific model. Without public detailed test scores or current comparable results, there is no sound basis to rank the SL153B against today’s alternatives.
