Sarvam’s Kivi is a voice-driven productivity app for Mac that the company says can dictate text at the cursor and handle writing or editing requests across apps. Launch coverage describes two modes: Dictate, activated by holding Fn, and Hey Kivi, activated with Fn+Control. Sarvam says Kivi supports more than 22 Indian languages, including code-switching; those are company claims, not independently verified app test results. Sarvam’s official Epoch summary says, “Kivi for Mac is now available.” Moneycontrol’s October 6, 2026 launch report also says Windows users can join a waitlist.
What Kivi does on a Mac
Kivi is designed to let users speak instead of typing, either to enter text at the current cursor or to ask for changes to existing text. Sarvam positions it for work across apps, with examples including WhatsApp messages, Docs, spreadsheets, Sarvam Code and Sarvam Work. Moneycontrol’s launch coverage also describes use with email, messaging platforms, documents, notes and AI coding tools. These are reported capabilities and examples; independent hands-on testing was not established.

How the two voice modes are reported to work
Dictate: speak text into the current app
Hold the Fn key while speaking. According to Moneycontrol, Kivi converts speech into polished, punctuated and formatted text and inserts it where the cursor is positioned. This is the mode for entering a message, note or document text without first composing it elsewhere.

Press Fn+Control to invoke Hey Kivi. Launch reporting says users can give natural-language requests to create content, rewrite selected text or change its formatting. Examples include drafting a follow-up email, shortening selected text and turning a paragraph into bullets. The report does not establish how consistently these actions work across individual apps.

Personalization features described at launch
Moneycontrol reports that Kivi can remember corrections, accept terms in a custom dictionary, and follow natural-language writing rules such as British spelling or a preferred sign-off. It also reports spoken shortcuts that expand into longer text. Sarvam’s social post describes similar personalization features. These are launch claims, not independently confirmed behavior.
What Saaras V4 contributes—and what it does not prove
Kivi is powered by Saaras V4, Sarvam’s speech recognition model. Sarvam describes the model as an audio encoder paired with an in-house 3B hybrid state-space language-model decoder. Its documentation lists five output modes: transcribe, translate, verbatim, translit and codemix. The model documentation lists 22 Indian languages plus English, and Sarvam says V4 adds Global English alongside Indian English. These are model-level specifications; they do not independently establish how accurately or quickly Kivi performs in every app or language workflow.

Sarvam’s 2026 model announcement reports a 2.9% language-identification error rate across the top ten Indian languages and 5.22% across all 22 Indian languages. It also claims the lowest word error rate on seven global English datasets, without giving one aggregate numeric WER figure in the announcement, and characterizes Saaras V4 as state of the art across all 22 Indian languages. These are vendor-reported model results, not independent Kivi benchmarks. No independently verified Kivi accuracy, latency or comparative test result is established.

Availability and details to check before installing
Sarvam says Kivi for Mac is available, and Moneycontrol reported the launch on October 6, 2026. Rollout can change, so check Sarvam’s current product information before relying on availability. The same report described a Windows waitlist; Sarvam’s official summary lists Windows, Android, API and MCP access as next, rather than established current releases.
