If you want to play Kingdom Hearts portably, choose the native Switch 2 collection. For a home console, choose whichever you already own; the new collection is coming natively to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well. Prefer a boxed copy? Square Enix lists physical editions for Switch 2 and PS5, but says the physical collection needs an internet connection to download additional data. The original Switch cloud editions are no longer on sale and are scheduled to stop working on June 9, 2027.
What is included in KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]?
Square Enix lists the collection for Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch scheduled for October 8, 2026. It bundles three collections:

- KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-: KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX, Re:Chain of Memories, KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX, Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX, plus HD cutscene compilations for 358/2 Days and Re:coded.
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Dream Drop Distance HD, the χ Back Cover movie, and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –.
- KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind: KINGDOM HEARTS III and its Re Mind DLC.
The two 1.5+2.5 entries identified as HD cutscene compilations are video compilations, not full playable remakes. Square Enix also says the three collection components are available individually. The announcement describes the new versions as native releases; the Switch 2 collection is not the original Switch cloud-streaming edition. Square Enix separately lists a native original-Switch release of 1.5+2.5, not the full collection. Square Enix’s collection page has the listed editions and contents.

| Option | Best fit | Format and key details |
|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 | Portable play | Native collection; Square Enix lists physical and digital editions. Long Night is the listed platform-specific Keyblade. |
| PS5 | Home-console play or a physical copy | Native collection; Square Enix lists physical and digital editions. Midnight Blue is the listed platform-specific Keyblade. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Players already using Xbox | Native collection; Xbox’s listing presents the bundle as a digital preorder. Phantom Green is the listed platform-specific Keyblade. |
The physical collection is listed for Switch 2 and PS5. Square Enix warns, “To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection is required to download additional data.” A box therefore does not mean the full collection is playable without an initial download. Check local availability and the exact edition before buying.

Is the Kingdom Hearts Switch cloud version still a good option?
No, not as a new purchase: sales of all four original Switch cloud products ended June 9, 2026, at 14:59 UTC. - Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III]
The cloud editions streamed games from remote servers rather than downloading the full software to the Switch. Nintendo says cloud play requires a stable, high-speed internet connection and can disconnect after a few minutes if the connection becomes unstable. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for cloud play itself, though a game may require membership for its online features. Nintendo recommends testing a cloud game’s trial over your own network; a successful trial does not guarantee future stability. Its FAQ currently says cloud versions are available only in the United States and Canada. These are general cloud-game rules, not a performance guarantee for any particular connection. Read Nintendo’s cloud-version FAQ.
Can you upgrade an older digital purchase or transfer saves?
Square Enix says owners of qualifying digital editions on Switch Cloud, PS4, or Xbox One can get a 50% discount on eligible corresponding new digital editions. Eligibility depends on the platform and collection component. For Switch cloud owners, the discount applies to the corresponding Switch 2 digital edition; INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE for Cloud qualifies for discounts on all digital versions. The offer excludes the physical collection. Check the relevant store for the entitlement before purchasing rather than assuming every prior purchase qualifies.
Square Enix says Switch cloud save data can transfer to Switch 2. It says save transfer is not supported for the platform upgrades it discusses from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series X|S. This does not establish rules for other save systems or future platform policies.

Square Enix lists a platform-specific Keyblade for each current-generation version: Long Night for Switch 2, Midnight Blue for PS5, and Phantom Green for Xbox Series X|S. The purchase types that qualify vary by platform and bundle, so check the product listing for the edition you intend to buy. Xbox’s store page advertises 48 hours of early access for preorders placed by 11:59 p.m. on October 7, 2026. That is a store-specific offer with a deadline, not a general benefit across platforms or post-launch purchases; verify its terms on the Xbox product page.
