Yes: KINGDOM HEARTS IV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with Square Enix announcing a late 2027 release window. That is a major change from the series’ earlier Switch releases, which were cloud-streamed games. The Switch 2 will also get a separate native collection of older titles on October 8, 2026—but that collection is not KINGDOM HEARTS IV.
When does KINGDOM HEARTS IV come out on Switch 2?
Square Enix lists KINGDOM HEARTS IV for Nintendo Switch 2 with a late 2027 release window. No exact day has been announced in the official information available as of October 7, 2026, so there is no confirmed month or date beyond that window. Nintendo’s June 10, 2026 Direct recap had said the game would be available at Switch 2 launch; Square Enix’s later August 16 update is the more specific timing announcement. Square Enix’s release update and Nintendo’s Direct recap also confirm the platform announcement.

The game is not exclusive to Nintendo. Square Enix lists it for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. The announced story follows Sora and familiar characters into Quadratum, where Heartless cause havoc, before they travel to worlds inspired by Disney and Pixar.

The original Nintendo Switch releases were cloud versions: the games streamed over the internet instead of running as native Switch software. Square Enix announced the cloud lineup on January 18, 2022: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind, and the all-in-one INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE collection. The announcement highlighted the need for a stable, persistent high-speed internet connection for streaming. Square Enix’s 2022 announcement identifies those releases as cloud products.

Those cloud versions stopped being sold on June 9, 2026. Square Enix says they are scheduled to remain playable until June 9, 2027, at 14:59 UTC. That end-of-service date applies to the old cloud offerings, not to the forthcoming Switch 2 versions or KINGDOM HEARTS IV. Square Enix’s cloud-service notice provides the sales and service dates.
Which Kingdom Hearts games arrive on Switch 2 first?
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is a separate package of earlier games scheduled for October 8, 2026. It is announced for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. Its contents are HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. It does not include KINGDOM HEARTS IV. Square Enix describes the current-generation console versions as non-cloud, making the collection a native option rather than the streaming model used by the earlier Switch releases. The physical Switch 2 edition comes with an important download caveat: Square Enix says an internet connection is required to download additional data. The included game bundles are digital-only within the collection. A qualifying owner of certain Switch cloud versions can receive a digital Switch 2 discount and transfer save data, according to Square Enix; the physical collection does not qualify for that discount. Check the official announcement for the qualifying ownership terms.

- For KINGDOM HEARTS IV: Switch 2 is a confirmed platform, but the game is not due until late 2027, and no exact date is announced.

That distinction matters if you are planning a catch-up: the October collection is the available path to the older games on Switch 2, while KINGDOM HEARTS IV remains a later release. The collection’s release date is announced, but regional store availability and retailer stock can vary.
