Square Enix describes it as non-cloud, unlike the earlier Switch versions, which streamed. The catch is on the physical edition: you need an internet connection to download additional data. The only hands-on coverage so far is a short handheld preview, so this article separates what is confirmed from what nobody has measured yet.
Release date and platforms
Square Enix announced the collection on June 10, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Microsoft Store on Windows, all on October 8, 2026. Nintendo’s US product listing confirms the same date for Switch 2. Release times and store availability can vary by region, so check your local eShop or retailer.

What is in the collection
The collection is three bundles. Square Enix’s collection page and announcement list the following.

Is it the entire series?
No. It is the whole set of titles in those three bundles, not every Kingdom Hearts release ever made. Note too that 358/2 Days and Re:coded appear as cutscene compilations rather than playable games, and the χ Back Cover is a movie. Count the playable games accordingly.

Native play instead of cloud streaming
Square Enix states the Switch 2 collection is native, unlike the previous Switch cloud versions. That is the main reason to care about this release: the games run on the console rather than depending on a streaming connection during play.
The physical edition’s download requirement
The collection is sold physically and digitally. Square Enix’s wording: “To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection is required to download additional data.” Do not assume the cartridge holds everything or that it works fully offline out of the box. Plan to download that data on first setup. The three constituent releases are listed as digital-only.

Early impressions: what exists and what doesn’t
Nintendo Everything published a Gamescom preview in which its writer played roughly 15 minutes each of HD 2.5 ReMIX and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind in handheld mode. The writer found the sampled play responsive and favorable, and noted widescreen support, clearer text and improved audio in the HD 2.5 material.
That is a short, handheld-only preview of two slices. No source so far provides frame rates, resolutions, load times, battery life or a docked-versus-handheld comparison for the full release, and this article does not guess at them. Wait for full reviews or measured tests before judging performance, especially for the larger KINGDOM HEARTS III.

The free demo
A free Switch 2 demo covers two portions of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind: the start through early Olympus, and the start through the middle of Toy Box. Save data from the first portion carries into the full game. Save data from the Toy Box portion does not, so play Olympus if you want to keep your progress.
Discounts, saves and bonuses
50% discount for some prior owners
Square Enix says eligible owners of earlier digital releases can get 50% off qualifying purchases. Its US collection page names owners of the previous Nintendo Switch cloud collection and the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Eligibility depends on the title and storefront, so check the offer in your regional store before buying.

Save transfer
Save data from the Switch cloud versions can be transferred to Switch 2. Square Enix says transfer is not supported from other platforms.
Switch 2 Keyblade
Buyers of the physical or digital collection, or of the digital KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind, get a Switch 2-exclusive “Long Night” Keyblade. PlayStation and Xbox versions receive different platform-specific Keyblades.

Which version to buy
- Prior Switch cloud owner: check your store for the 50% offer and carry over your cloud saves.
- Want a physical copy: fine, but budget for the additional data download and an internet connection at setup.
- Unsure about KINGDOM HEARTS III: try the demo first, and use the Olympus section if you intend to keep that save.
- Performance-sensitive: hold off for full reviews. The only sampled play so far is about 15 minutes per game in handheld.
The Bottom Line
On paper, this is the version of Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo hardware that the cloud releases were not: native, with a free demo and a discount for some prior owners. How well it runs across all three bundles is still unmeasured, so treat the early preview as encouraging rather than conclusive.
