Kingdom Come: Deliverance now has a native PS5 version. Its free next-generation update arrived on February 13, 2026, replacing the old PS4-only assumption with a PS5 build that targets up to 60 frames per second in one optimized console mode. The game renders internally at 2560×1440 and uses AMD FSR 1.2 to upscale to a 3840×2160 output; that is not native 4K rendering.
Existing PS4 owners receive the update at no additional charge, and the publisher says saves and progress carry over. New buyers can purchase digitally now, while a physical PS5 edition is planned for later in 2026, with availability depending on region and retailer.

What changed on PS5?
The February 13, 2026 update is a native PS5 port rather than simply the PS4 game running through backward compatibility. The publisher lists PS5 and PS5 Pro as supported platforms, alongside Xbox Series X|S. The PS4 version remains playable, but the next-generation build is the version intended for current-generation hardware.
The update covers the base game, Royal Edition and the associated downloadable content. It also preserves the option to keep playing on a previous-generation console; installing the PS5 version is not mandatory for existing owners.

Native port versus backward compatibility
“Backward compatible” accurately describes how many PS4 games run on PS5, but it is incomplete for the current release. The PlayStation Store listing identifies the game for both PS4 and PS5, and the publisher describes the new build as native PS5. In practical terms, you should select the PS5 version from your library or store listing when both versions appear.
PS5 performance: what the published specifications mean
The console release uses one optimized presentation. There is no menu that lets you choose separate Performance and Quality modes. The publisher describes the mode as targeting up to 60 FPS with visual settings comparable to the PC Ultra preset.
| Specification | Published detail | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Native render resolution | 2560×1440 | The game’s internal image is rendered at 1440p before upscaling. |
| Upscaling method | AMD FSR 1.2 | FSR reconstructs a higher-resolution output from the lower native render. |
| Output resolution | 3840×2160 | The displayed signal can be 4K, but the image is upscaled rather than rendered natively at 4K. |
| Frame-rate target | Up to 60 FPS | This is the publisher’s target, not evidence of a locked 60 FPS in every scene. |
| Mode selection | Single optimized mode | No separate Performance and Quality toggles are provided. |
| Dynamic resolution | Included | Internal resolution can adjust in demanding GPU-heavy areas to help smooth frame delivery. |
That distinction matters if you are comparing screenshots or expecting a native-4K quality mode. “4K output” describes the signal sent to the television; the documented 2560×1440 render resolution is the image produced before FSR 1.2 upscaling.

No. “Up to 60 FPS” is a maximum or target framing from the publisher. The official material does not provide frame-time measurements or establish a locked 60 FPS in every town, battle, cutscene or foliage-heavy location. Treat 60 FPS as the intended ceiling and general performance goal, not as an independently verified guarantee.
Where the update is designed to help
The developer’s notes call out optimization in scenes that were particularly expensive on older hardware:
- Large cities containing many non-player characters.
- Cutscenes and dialogue sequences.
- Battles with numerous characters and effects.
- Dense foliage and other geometry-heavy outdoor areas.
Engineering changes include an updated rendering backend, a CryEngine build optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series hardware, improved multithreading, faster asset streaming intended to reduce stutter and pop-in, and reworked culling. These are publisher-described changes, so they explain the design goals rather than serving as independent benchmark results.
How to get the PS5 version
If you own the digital PS4 game
- Open your PlayStation game library on the PS5 and find Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
- Open the game’s options or version selector and choose the PS5 edition when it is offered.
- Download the PS5 build and any owned DLC or Royal Edition content.
- Start the PS5 version and check for your transferred save data before deleting the PS4 installation.
The publisher says the update is free for existing PS4 owners, including digital owners. The exact labels in the console interface can vary by region and account entitlement, so use the PS5 version indicator rather than assuming the first download shown is the correct build.
If you own a physical PS4 disc
- Insert the PS4 disc into the PS5 model that has a disc drive.
- Open the game hub and look for the PS5 upgrade or version option.
- Claim and install the PS5 version, keeping the disc available because it may be required as the license check when you play.
- Import or confirm your save before removing the PS4 version.
The publisher says the update applies to physical owners, but its published FAQ does not spell out regional disc-authentication rules. Disc editions can have territory-specific licensing conditions, and a PS5 Digital Edition cannot read a disc. If the upgrade option does not appear, check the current PlayStation support instructions for your country and the region printed on the disc before buying the game again.
If you are buying for the first time
The US PlayStation Store currently lists the game and Royal Edition for PS4 and PS5. A digital purchase is the clearest way to play immediately on PS5. The publisher has said that a physical edition for new PS5 buyers is planned later in 2026; confirm that it has actually reached your country and preferred retailer before treating it as available.
Save transfer and cross-generation play
The publisher says save data and progress carry over from PS4 to PS5. Patch notes refer to transferring previous PS4 playlines to the PS5 build, so your campaign progression should not require a restart when the entitlement and account are recognized correctly.
Keep the original save until you have opened the PS5 version and verified the expected character, quests and inventory. If the save does not appear, confirm that you are using the same PlayStation Network account, that the PS4 save is present on the console or in your cloud storage, and that the PS5 game has completed its first update. Do not overwrite the old save while troubleshooting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCross-generation transfer does not mean that every installation shares a single live save automatically. Moving from PS4 to PS5 is a deliberate import or recognition step, and continuing to play on PS4 afterward can create a newer save than the one already imported to PS5. Make a fresh transfer when you change platforms again.

| Buying situation | Most relevant choice | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|
| You already own the PS4 base game | Claim the free PS5 update | You may not need to purchase the game again; saves and progress are intended to carry over. |
| You already own PS4 DLC or the Royal Edition | Install the corresponding PS5 content | The publisher says the next-generation update covers these editions and DLC. |
| You are new to the game and want all expansions | Royal Edition or a bundle containing the named DLC | Check the itemized contents of the regional store listing before purchase. |
| You want a boxed PS5 copy | Wait for the announced physical edition | The FAQ says later in 2026; actual launch timing and stock are region-dependent. |
Store prices, discounts and subscription-catalog access change frequently. Treat any price shown in a storefront as a time- and region-specific offer rather than a permanent edition price.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.PS5 Pro expectations
PS5 Pro is listed as a supported platform, but the official material does not identify a separate PS5 Pro resolution, frame-rate mode or image-quality enhancement. Do not assume that the Pro version renders above 2560×1440 internally or delivers a locked 60 FPS simply because the console is more powerful. The documented settings apply to the published PS5 experience unless a later technical update says otherwise.
What you should expect while playing
Image quality
The 1440p internal render combined with FSR 1.2 should produce a 4K-format image on a compatible display while allowing the console more GPU headroom than native 4K rendering. Fine foliage, distant geometry and fast movement are the areas where reconstruction can be most noticeable. The update’s higher-resolution textures and models, using PC Ultra quality as the visual baseline, are intended to improve detail compared with the earlier console build.
Frame delivery
Dynamic resolution gives the renderer permission to reduce internal resolution in demanding moments instead of holding a fixed image size at the expense of smoother motion. That can mean a softer picture in a crowded city or large battle, but it is a deliberate trade-off in the single optimized mode. No official frame-time chart establishes how often or how far the resolution changes.
Loading, streaming and pop-in
Improved asset streaming and reworked culling are intended to reduce stutter and visible pop-in. They do not make the game’s open-world streaming behavior identical to a newer engine, and the publisher has not quantified loading times. Expect the improvements to be most relevant when entering busy settlements or moving rapidly through dense environments.
Troubleshooting common upgrade problems
The PS5 version is not shown
- Confirm that the account owns the game rather than only having accessed it through a different account or temporary catalog entitlement.
- For a disc, insert the disc into a disc-equipped PS5 and check the disc region and current support guidance.
- Open the game hub’s version selector and look for a PS5 label rather than launching the PS4 application.
- Restart the console after the entitlement or update finishes synchronizing.
The old save is missing
- Launch the PS4 version once and verify that the latest save is present.
- Use the same PlayStation Network account on both versions.
- Download the save from cloud storage if that is where the PS4 copy was kept.
- Close the PS5 game fully, then reopen it after the save has finished copying.
The picture looks softer than expected
Check that you are running the PS5 application, not the PS4 version. The PS5 build’s documented 2560×1440 internal resolution and FSR 1.2 upscaling mean that “4K output” is not the same as native 4K rendering. Dynamic resolution can also lower the internal image temporarily in GPU-demanding scenes.
Performance dips in a busy area
The stated 60-FPS figure is a target, and the publisher specifically identifies cities, battles, cutscenes and foliage-heavy areas as demanding scenarios. Ensure the console has installed the latest update and that the display is configured for 120-Hz or variable-refresh operation only if it supports those features; neither setting can turn the publisher’s target into a guaranteed locked rate.
Is the PS5 version worth choosing?
For an existing PS4 owner, the decision is straightforward: claim the free update, import the save and use the native build if you want the improved visual baseline and current-generation performance target. There is no stated need to repurchase the base game merely to access the PS5 version.
For a new player, digital purchase is the immediately documented route. Choose the Royal Edition if the included expansions match how you plan to play; otherwise, compare the base game with individually listed DLC in your regional store. If a boxed copy is important, wait for confirmation that the planned later-2026 physical edition is on sale in your region rather than relying on the announcement alone.
The most accurate expectation is a single, enhanced PS5 presentation: 1440p internal rendering, FSR 1.2 upscaling to a 4K output, and a publisher-stated target of up to 60 FPS. It is a substantial technical step beyond treating the game as an untouched PS4 backward-compatibility title, but the available specifications do not prove a locked 60 FPS or a special PS5 Pro mode in every scene.
