Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a single-player, open-world RPG set in medieval Bohemia, with Henry as its protagonist. Its challenge comes less from a selectable numeric rating than from learning deliberate combat, managing limited assistance and navigating a world that expects attention. The standard mode is the sensible first run for most players; Hardcore is an optional ruleset for people who specifically want fewer interfaces, no fast travel or autosaves, tougher survival demands and mandatory negative perks.
For time planning, the only clearly documented figure is Warhorse’s 2014 estimate of about 30 hours for the main plot and secondary quests, excluding activities, wandering and random events. That is a development-era estimate, not a current average or a completionist guarantee.

What kind of game is Kingdom Come: Deliverance?
The original Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a single-player open-world role-playing game. The official Steam listing identifies its open-world and single-player format, while PlayStation’s official page places the story in medieval Bohemia and identifies Henry as the central character. Make sure a store listing says Kingdom Come: Deliverance, not the later sequel, when you are looking for the game discussed here.

The story unfolds in an explorable setting, and you can spend time away from the central plot on travel, activities and events. The documented sources do not establish a universal quest order or claim that every activity is optional, so treat the world as broad and explorable without assuming complete freedom at every story stage.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
It is also a simulation-leaning RPG. The game asks you to learn its combat timing, pay attention to equipment and survival concerns, and make decisions with less hand-holding than a typical action RPG. That design is why two players can describe the same mode very differently: familiarity with the systems and willingness to prepare matter as much as a nominal difficulty label.
Is Kingdom Come: Deliverance hard?
There is no reliable official numerical difficulty score for the game. The store description calls it realistic and story-rich, but does not rate it on an easy-to-hard scale. A more useful answer is that the standard mode has a substantial learning curve, while Hardcore adds a separate set of restrictions that remove convenience and navigation aids.
Why the standard mode can feel demanding
- Combat depends on learning the game’s timing and interactions instead of relying only on rapid button presses.
- The world and its systems provide less automatic guidance than many modern open-world games.
- Travel and preparation take attention, so mistakes can cost more time than they would in a heavily assisted mode.
Those characteristics make the opening hours feel unfamiliar, but they do not prove that every encounter or every player’s experience has the same difficulty. The available documentation supports describing the learning curve and the Hardcore rules, not assigning a universal score.

Who should begin with standard mode?
Start with standard mode if this is your first playthrough, you mainly want to follow Henry’s story, or you prefer to learn the systems while retaining normal interface and travel assistance. This is a recommendation inferred from the documented differences, not an official developer prescription.

Who should consider Hardcore?
Choose Hardcore when deliberately seeking a less-assisted, more immersive run, or when replaying and wanting the restrictions themselves to change how you plan journeys and manage resources. It is not simply a “harder enemies” toggle: the mode changes navigation, saving, survival and character creation as well as combat.
Standard and Hardcore modes compared
The following comparison uses the features documented in Warhorse’s Hardcore patch notes. “Standard” means the normal ruleset without those Hardcore restrictions; the sources do not provide a platform-by-platform balance audit or a numerical difficulty multiplier.
| System | Standard mode | Hardcore mode |
|---|---|---|
| HUD and interface | Normal assistance is available. | HUD help is reduced. |
| Map position and compass | Normal map and compass assistance. | Your map position and compass cardinal points are removed; landmarks and the sun become important navigation references. |
| Fast travel | Normal rules apply. | Disabled. |
| Autosaves | Normal saving rules apply. | Disabled. |
| Survival | Normal survival balance. | Survival is rebalanced, making care for the character and equipment more consequential. |
| Combat | Normal combat rules. | Combat is adjusted; the notes document changes but do not establish one universal numerical increase in difficulty. |
| Character creation | No Hardcore requirement to select negative perks. | Negative perks must be selected at creation. |
Hardcore therefore changes the information you receive and the decisions required between fights. A player who dislikes mapless navigation or long return trips may find it more frustrating even if individual combat encounters are manageable. Conversely, someone who enjoys route planning and a minimal interface may value those constraints more than a conventional difficulty slider.
What exactly changes in Hardcore mode?
Navigation without the usual aids
Hardcore removes your map position and the compass’s cardinal points. You are expected to orient yourself with visible landmarks and the sun. This changes travel from following a continuously updating marker to remembering terrain, roads and settlement locations. Plan routes before leaving, note recognizable features and allow extra time for getting turned around.

No fast travel
Fast travel is disabled. Every journey must be made through the world, so a quest that appears close on a map still has a real travel cost. Group errands by area when possible and avoid starting a time-sensitive objective without enough daylight or supplies.
No autosaves
Hardcore disables autosaves. Saving becomes a deliberate part of preparation rather than a background safety net. Before a dangerous objective, check your equipment and establish a safe point at which you can save under the mode’s normal rules. The patch notes document the removal of autosaves; they do not provide a universal statement about every other save method or every platform implementation.
Rebalanced survival and equipment care
The mode rebalances survival, so food, rest and maintaining your kit deserve more planning than in a lightly assisted run. Treat those needs as route-planning constraints: a long detour may be unsafe even when the destination is technically nearby.
Adjusted combat
Combat is adjusted in Hardcore, but the available documentation does not support a single percentage or score that predicts how much harder each fight feels. Expect the mode to demand more attention alongside its other restrictions rather than assuming that enemy health alone has been raised.

Mandatory negative perks
At character creation, Hardcore requires you to select negative perks. These choices affect the rules of the entire run, so read each description before confirming. Because the sources do not list every perk effect, do not treat an external checklist as a substitute for the descriptions shown in your current game version.

The story provides the spine
Henry’s story gives the game its main progression path. Quests move the narrative through medieval Bohemia, while the surrounding world provides places to explore and activities beyond the central plot.
Exploration is a time choice
You can spend a session following the next story objective or use that time to travel, investigate locations and participate in activities and events. The early 30-hour estimate explicitly excludes those diversions, which is why a player who explores will naturally spend longer than the quoted story-and-secondary-quest figure.

Hardcore changes the cost of exploration
Exploration has a different opportunity cost in Hardcore because there is no fast travel, no autosave and less positional guidance. The world is still open and explorable, but each detour consumes real travel and preparation time. Standard mode is better suited to learning the geography before attempting those constraints.
How long does Kingdom Come: Deliverance take to beat?
Warhorse’s forum FAQ, posted in 2014 during development, estimated about 30 hours for the main plot and secondary quests. The estimate specifically excluded activities, wandering and events. It is the only relevant source-backed number here.
| What you are measuring | Supported wording | What not to claim |
|---|---|---|
| Main plot plus secondary quests | About 30 hours, according to Warhorse’s 2014 FAQ estimate. | Do not call it a current average or guaranteed runtime. |
| Exploration and activities | Add time beyond that estimate; the estimate explicitly excluded them. | No official current total is established. |
| Completionist play | Expect it to exceed the quoted scope if you pursue broad exploration and events. | No measured completionist figure was located. |
| Hardcore run | Allow additional planning and travel time because fast travel and autosaves are disabled. | No reliable numerical Hardcore multiplier is established. |
The 30-hour figure should be read as a dated development estimate, not a stopwatch result. It does not include every activity, every detour or every event, and it predates the final balance and later patches. Your total will depend on how often you explore and how much optional content you pursue; that is a direct implication of the estimate’s exclusions, not a measured player average.
A practical way to choose your first run
- Decide whether the story or the ruleset is your priority. If you want to understand the setting and systems with normal assistance, choose standard. If the restrictions are the attraction, choose Hardcore.
- Consider your tolerance for navigation friction. Hardcore removes your map position and compass cardinal points, so landmark-based travel is unavoidable.
- Budget for travel. With fast travel disabled, group nearby objectives and leave time for return journeys.
- Plan saving deliberately. Since autosaves are disabled in Hardcore, establish a safe saving routine before risky objectives.
- Read the negative perks. Hardcore requires them at character creation; select only after understanding their effects in your current version.
- Set a realistic calendar. Use “about 30 hours” only for the historically estimated plot-and-secondary-quest scope, then add your own allowance for wandering, activities and events.
What the official listings do and do not establish
The official Steam page supports the game’s single-player, open-world classification. PlayStation’s official page supports the medieval Bohemia setting and Henry’s role. Warhorse’s patch notes document the Hardcore mechanics described above. The 2014 forum FAQ supports only the qualified estimate and its exclusions.
None of those sources supplies a current, independently measured playtime distribution, a universal difficulty score or a complete comparison of every platform and patch. Store metadata can change, so verify that a listing is for the original game and the platform edition you intend to buy before purchase.
