Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klíma hopes Grand Theft Auto VI’s success will make other studios more willing to charge more for new games. That is his view, not evidence that GTA VI will trigger an industry-wide price increase. PC Gamer reports GTA VI’s Standard Edition at $80 and Ultimate Edition at $100; its console release is scheduled for November 19, 2026.
What Martin Klíma said about GTA VI and game prices
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026, Klíma argued that studios facing higher development costs have few ways to bring in more revenue. One possibility, in his view, is charging more for each copy sold.

“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost,” Klíma said, as quoted by PC Gamer. He also said Rockstar and Take-Two are among the few companies able to risk raising game prices, describing such increases as overdue and necessary for the business to survive.

GTA VI’s reported editions and prices
PC Gamer’s June 24, 2026 report, citing Rockstar’s preorder announcement, gives these prices:

Why Klíma thinks a blockbuster could matter
Klíma’s argument links two ideas: games cost more to develop, and a higher price per copy could help studios recover that investment. A blockbuster such as GTA VI might make that move seem more acceptable to publishers, but whether players would accept higher prices—and whether other companies would follow—remains uncertain.
Klíma’s own feelings about the series underline that his point is about the industry rather than fandom. PC Gamer reports that GTA “doesn’t appeal to me at all” and that he fails to understand its popularity. He nevertheless recognizes the games as technological marvels and wished GTA VI luck.

GTA VI’s release date is still scheduled, not past
As of October 3, 2026, GTA VI had not yet reached its reported console launch date. PC Gamer’s October 1 report lists November 19, 2026 as the scheduled debut. That timing matters: Klíma’s hope that the game might pave the way for higher prices is a possibility he is proposing, not a market effect that has already been demonstrated.
