Android Authority reported on October 5, 2026, that Amazon had cut the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft to $189.99, describing it as 34% off. That is a reported deal, not a live-verified Amazon price: check Amazon’s US listing for the exact model, availability, and sale end time before buying. The October 2026 Kindle refresh also makes it important to confirm whether the listing is for the prior-generation 16GB model or a newly announced Colorsoft.
What the $189.99 deal covers
Android Authority’s October 5, 2026 deal report names the 16GB Kindle Colorsoft and gives a sale price of $189.99, calling it 34% off. The report does not independently establish Amazon’s current price or the reference price used to calculate that percentage. Amazon’s listing is the place to confirm the price and the specific product being sold.

The timing matters: Amazon announced a refreshed Kindle family, including new Colorsoft models, in October 2026. The deal report identifies a 16GB Colorsoft, but the available information does not provide enough SKU-level detail to compare that discounted unit comprehensively with the newly announced generation. Do not assume that a $189.99 listing is for the newest model just because it appears alongside the refresh.
How to verify the listing before buying
- Open Amazon’s US Kindle Colorsoft listing and confirm the product name and storage shown on the page match the 16GB model in the offer.
- Check the model or generation details on the listing. If Amazon does not make the generation clear, review its product details or contact the seller before ordering.
- Confirm the price displayed at checkout, stock status, and any stated deal end time. Prices and availability can change, and the October 5 report does not establish how long the offer lasts.
- Compare the listing’s specifications and return terms with the newly announced Colorsoft model if you are deciding between generations.
- If you want a case, verify that it fits the exact prior-generation 16GB model; a case for another Colorsoft generation may not fit.
What is known about the original Colorsoft
Amazon’s October 16, 2024 announcement described the original Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition as a 7-inch color e-reader. Amazon listed color highlighting, a waterproof design, USB-C, wireless charging, an auto-adjusting front light, and up to eight weeks of battery life for that Signature Edition.
#1 Best Overall
- Read in color – The 7" Colorsoft display is high-contrast and easy on the eyes, with paper-like color that brings covers and content to life.
- A brand-new experience – The Kindle Colorsoft display is optimized for reading in color and is different from the Kindle Paperwhite display, which is optimized for black and white reading.
- Color your pages – Highlight your favorite scenes in yellow, orange, blue, and pink.
- Marathon reading – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 8 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
Those are specifications and claims for the Signature Edition as announced in 2024. They should not be treated as confirmed specifications for the discounted 16GB model without checking its current Amazon listing. Amazon’s 2024 announcement gave the Signature Edition a launch price of $279.99; that historical figure does not establish the reference price behind the reported 34% discount.

The reported $189.99 price may be worth considering if Amazon’s live listing confirms that it is the 16GB model you want and you are comfortable buying that generation rather than a newly announced one. If generation, battery life, water resistance, or other specifications will decide the purchase, compare the two models’ current product pages before placing an order. The available deal report alone does not settle those comparisons.
