For a phone that genuinely has no social media, look for a model with no browser and no app store—not just a smartphone with blocking controls a child or parent could later change. If you want more flexibility, check exactly which apps, websites, contacts, schedules, and pause controls parents can manage, and whether those controls depend on a specific plan.
Decide what “no social media” means for your family
There are two different approaches. A more restricted phone may have no internet browser or app store, so social apps are not available to install or reach through a browser. A configurable phone may allow internet or apps on some plans, leaving parents to block access and maintain the settings. The first approach offers fewer options; the second can adapt as a child’s needs change, but restrictions depend on the device’s controls and plan.

Compare the phones by access and controls
| Phone | Internet, apps, and social media | Controls and other features | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gabb Phone 4 | Gabb says Phone 4 cannot access the internet and has no browser or social-media apps. Its product page lists 16 preloaded essential apps. | Gabb lists GPS tracking and safe zones through MyGabb, optional parent-managed contacts, calling, texting, and video features. | Do not confuse Phone 4 with Phone 4 Pro: Gabb says full app access is available only on Phone 4 Pro with the Advanced plan. Confirm current plans and retailer details on Gabb’s Phone 4 page and Gabb’s Phone 4 and Phone 4 Pro comparison. |
| Bark Phone | Bark’s Starter plan excludes internet, an app store, games, and social media. Advanced plans let parents add app or internet access. | Bark describes app and contact approvals, web and app blocking, schedules, monitoring alerts, location tracking, and remote pause. | Restrictions vary by plan; this is not a claim that every Bark Phone plan permanently excludes social media. Bark says the phone is available only in the U.S. Check its Bark Phone plans and product details and plan comparison. |
| Pinwheel phones | Pinwheel says its phones exclude social-media and adult apps and provide a vetted app library, with more flexibility as a child matures. | Pinwheel describes a location dashboard, saved-location alerts, and caregiver permissions. | These are vendor descriptions, not independently verified safety outcomes. Review the current Pinwheel phone and service details before choosing. |
Use this checklist before choosing
- Web access: Is there no browser and no internet, or can a parent enable web access on a particular plan or schedule?
- App installation: Is there no app store, a curated library, or Google Play with approvals? Which plan unlocks more apps?
- Social apps: Are they unavailable by design, or blocked through settings that a parent must maintain? Ask whether restrictions cover both installed apps and browser access.
- Contacts: Can a parent approve contacts, limit who can call or text, and control whether the child can add new contacts?
- Location: Does the service provide live location or arrival and departure alerts for saved places? Check how the child can contact caregivers. The listed sources do not establish location accuracy.
- Schedules and pause: Can parents set school or bedtime rules and pause the phone remotely? Confirm what calling or other communication remains available during a pause, especially for emergencies.
- Monitoring and privacy: Find out what the service says it scans or logs, who can see that information, and what the child will be told. Monitoring alerts are not the same as preventing access or harm.
- Compatibility and purchase terms: Check device installments separately from service fees, plus activation, data limits, carrier and geographic requirements, return terms, and case fit for the exact model.
Separate device payments from monthly service
Bark’s product page currently lists a Starter service plan at $29 per month, plus a $15 monthly device payment for 24 months. The page lists Advanced service options at $39 per month for Wi-Fi-only access, $49 for 4 GB, $59 for 8 GB, and $79 for a data plan with speed reductions after specified usage thresholds. These are vendor-listed amounts, may change, and are not a complete comparison of total cost across providers. Review Bark’s current plan and device pricing before purchase.

Bark Phone for Kids & Teens - GPS Tracking & Parental Controls - A16
- ACTIVATION REQUIRED: After purchase, users will select a monthly data plan. Starter plan: $29/mo. Wi-Fi only: $39/mo. 4GB: $49/mo. 8GB: $59/mo. UNLIMITED GB: $79/mo.
- STATE-OF-THE-ART MONITORING: Get alerts for potential issues in your child’s texts, emails and 30+ social media platforms and apps. Scan for online predators, sexting, suicidal ideation, bullying, violence, drugs/alcohol, and more.
- APPROVE APPS AND CONTACTS: Manage the apps your child can install as well as who they can text and call.
- TAMPER-PROOF PARENTAL CONTROLS: The rules you set stay in place. Plus, texts can't be deleted without your permission.
- REAL-TIME GPS LOCATION TRACKING: We make location sharing simple with three different ways to keep track of your child — a real-time map, customizable location alerts, and check-ins.
Gabb says Phone 4 is sold through online vendors including Amazon, Walmart, and Target, but that does not confirm a live listing, activation terms, or current price at any particular retailer. Gabb also identifies a model-specific case; confirm compatibility with the exact phone before ordering.
Match the phone to the restriction you want
If your priority is removing browser and social-app access rather than managing a broader smartphone, compare devices whose manufacturer says those functions are absent on the specific model and plan you are buying. If you want flexibility, assess how app approvals, web blocking, schedules, contact rules, and remote pause work—and whether the child can change settings or remove controls. In either case, read the current plan terms and decide what monitoring and location sharing mean for your child’s privacy.
