Why do reports cite different numbers of drought-affected taluks?
Same-day reporting said 177 taluks had been declared drought-affected, while the original ₹3,705.30 crore request covered 101 taluks. These counts refer to different stages: the request’s initial coverage and a later reported declaration count. Ground-truthing was also under way, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.

How does Kharge’s appeal differ from the earlier state request?
On September 24, 2026, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar separately urged the Centre to release 50% of the ₹3,705.30 crore request as interim aid. Kharge’s October 3 letter was a later appeal for urgent central help; the two are distinct interventions.
