Five people had been arrested by October 1–2, 2026, in a case in which police say a group posing as officers abducted a man and a woman from a Thrissur lodge and the woman was later sexually assaulted in Tamil Nadu. The allegations remain under investigation; arrests are not findings of guilt.
What police say happened
Police accounts reported by Hindustan Times, Onmanorama and The New Indian Express say the incident began on September 22, 2026, after a man from Tamil Nadu and a woman from Nilambur, in Kerala’s Malappuram district, checked into a lodge near Thrissur’s state transport bus stand.
According to those accounts, the man’s wife, identified as Devi, opposed the relationship and learned where the pair were staying. A group allegedly arrived in two cars, claimed to be police officers, entered the room and assaulted and abducted the pair. One report says the group claimed the two were suspected in a drug case. Thrissur City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh told Hindustan Times that “a gang of six men, posing as police officers, barged into the room at the lodge and kidnapped them.” This is a police account quoted by a news outlet, not a court finding.
What is reported to have happened after the abduction
The reports say the pair were taken to Tamil Nadu and separated. Police accounts say the man was assaulted and left near a hospital in Tiruppur, while the woman was taken separately and sexually assaulted by two suspects. Onmanorama and The New Indian Express report that she was taken to a hospital and escaped when the accused were distracted. Other contemporaneous coverage says she later informed police. The accounts do not establish a later court finding.

Arrests and investigation status
Reports published October 1–2 said five people, including Devi, had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. They name the other arrested suspects as Thomas, Raghupathi or Raghupathi Raja, Shankar, and Balraj or Palraj; spellings differ across reports. Those reports described a sixth suspect, believed to be a juvenile, as not yet arrested, and said the investigation was continuing.
According to the reports, Nilambur police initially began investigating before Thrissur City Police took over. A special team reportedly made arrests near Kochi airport and in Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Palani. The cited October 1–2 coverage does not establish whether the additional suspect was subsequently arrested, or provide a later court update.
