Before pairing, check that your Kenwood supports Bluetooth
Bluetooth availability—and whether it supports calls, music streaming, or both—depends on the exact receiver. Find the model number on the unit or in its documentation, then consult its manual for Bluetooth support and the correct menu sequence. Kenwood’s manual and support resources provide model-specific instructions.

Pair the phone with the receiver
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and leave the available-device list visible.
- Open Bluetooth registration on the Kenwood. On the receiver, find its Bluetooth, device-registration, or pairing controls and start registration mode. Menu labels and button sequences vary by model.
- Select the receiver on your phone. Tap the Kenwood receiver when it appears in the phone’s available devices.
- Approve the pairing request. Accept or confirm the prompts on both the receiver and phone. Kenwood’s device-registration guidance describes authenticating the receiver or registering a smartphone, while the KDC-BT660U manual gives a model-specific pairing example.
Choose Bluetooth for calls or music
Pairing registers the phone, but you may still need to select the appropriate Bluetooth phone or audio source on the receiver to make calls or play music. The available functions depend on the receiver; check its manual if you do not see the expected source or feature. Ordinary Bluetooth audio does not require Android Auto.

Use ordinary Bluetooth pairing for supported hands-free calling or audio streaming. Android Auto is a separate setup with its own compatibility requirements; wireless Android Auto requires a receiver that supports it, and Kenwood’s setup guidance calls for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to be enabled on the phone. Fix a Kenwood Bluetooth connection that fails
- Restart the receiver. Then toggle Bluetooth off and back on in the phone’s settings and try pairing again.
- Remove the old pairing on both devices. Delete the Kenwood connection from the phone and remove the phone’s saved pairing from the receiver. Restart the pairing process from registration mode.
- Start the connection from the receiver if you use Android. JVCKENWOOD’s KENWOOD Remote FAQ notes that “Some Android Phones will not be able to activate a Bluetooth connection automatically from the phone to the receiver.” If selecting the receiver on the phone does not connect, initiate the connection through the Kenwood’s Bluetooth settings instead.
- Check model-specific support. If the receiver does not appear, or pairing works but calls or audio do not, confirm in the manual that the model supports the feature and review its exact registration and source-selection steps.
