The Kenwood Blend X-Treme BLP900BK is a discontinued blender with a 2 L plastic jug, a listed 1600 W rating and three automatic programmes. Those details describe its capacity and controls, not how well it blends: CHOICE’s independent task scores are restricted to members, so the publicly available evidence does not establish whether it excels at smoothies, ice or other jobs. It may suit someone who values a large jug and preset cycles, but buyers considering used or remaining stock should verify the unit and included parts before paying.
What the BLP900BK offers
Kenwood’s TYPE BLP90 manual describes three programmes—smoothies, ice crush and soup—alongside variable speed and pulse. The selected programme stops automatically when it finishes; pulse runs only while its lever is held. The manual also identifies an overload-reset button and a stir stick for helping move cold ingredients.

CHOICE lists the model as a high-performance blender and gives the following specifications. They are listing details, not independent performance measurements.

| Jug capacity and material | 2 L, plastic | The manual sets lower maximums for some recipes and ingredients. |
| Rated power | 1600 W | A rated-power figure does not establish blending results. |
| Blender weight | 5.3 kg | CHOICE also lists the jug at 1.2 kg. |

Specifications are from CHOICE’s BLP900BK listing, accessed in 2026; no publication date is displayed. CHOICE shows A$699 on its Australian listing, but that figure is not a current or universal price. Do not treat it as a guide to what remaining stock or a used unit should cost.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How well does it blend?
There is not enough public evidence to give the BLP900BK a reliable performance verdict. CHOICE’s listing offers an expert rating and task-level results, but makes them available only to members. Those results cover smoothies, kale, nut butter, sorbet, soft liquids, ice crushing, chopping, dough, dry-milling nuts and parmesan cheese. The public listing does not reveal the scores, so neither the 1600 W rating nor the “high-performance” category label should be read as proof that it performs well at any of those tasks.
No hands-on test results are available here. If blending quality is your deciding factor, look for accessible, task-specific independent results for the exact model rather than inferring performance from the specification sheet.

Can it crush ice?
Yes, the manual includes an ice-crush programme and gives a specific limit: 200 g, or 10 ice cubes, for a 30-second cycle. That confirms the intended function and operating guidance; it does not establish how finely or consistently the blender crushes ice in independent testing.
Operating and cleaning cautions
- Do not run it empty. The manual warns against operating without ingredients and limits continuous running to three minutes.
- Cool hot ingredients first. Kenwood warns: “DO NOT process hot ingredients.” It says they must reach room temperature before going into the goblet or being blended.
- Use the stir stick only with cold ingredients. Do not use it for more than 60 seconds.
- Be cautious with thick mixtures. The manual says nut butters and dips may need scraping down. If processing is difficult, add liquid and use the stir stick.
- Avoid hard spices. The manual warns that hard items such as nutmeg and turmeric root may damage the blade, and says spices are not recommended because they may damage plastic parts.
- Unplug before handling parts. Unplug before fitting or removing components, cleaning, or reaching into the goblet. Wait for the blades to stop before removing the goblet.
- Keep electrical parts dry. Never wet or immerse the power unit, cord or plug.
- Hand-clean the parts. The manual says no parts are dishwasher safe. Wash the goblet with warm water, rinse and air-dry it; hand-wash the lid, filler cap and stir stick. Wipe the power unit rather than immersing it.
If the blender overloads, the manual’s recovery procedure is to switch it off, unplug it, remove excess ingredients and let it rest for a few minutes. Then press the reset button on the underside of the power unit.

Is the BLP900BK discontinued?
CHOICE labels the model “Discontinued model.” That establishes its status in CHOICE’s listing, but does not state when or why it was discontinued. The evidence consulted does not establish current retailer stock or availability of replacement parts, so a listing for a new unit should not be taken as proof that it is available or supported.
What to check before buying one
For used units or remaining stock, confirm the details of the particular item rather than relying on a generic product listing.

- Confirm the model. Check that the product is the BLP900BK and that its manual family is TYPE BLP90.
- Inspect the included parts. Confirm the goblet and lid are present and check whether the stir stick is included. Look for damage, leaks or cracks in the plastic jug and lid.
- Ask about condition and operation. If possible, see the blender run and check that its controls work. Ask the seller to explain any faults or repairs.
- Check the seller’s terms. Understand the return policy and any warranty or support that applies to that exact sale.
- Check parts compatibility and availability. Ask Kenwood or the seller whether compatible parts can be supplied for this model before buying on the assumption that a missing or damaged component can be replaced.
- Compare the asking price carefully. CHOICE’s Australian listing displays A$699, but its date and relevance to current local stock are not established. Treat it as a listing figure, not a present-day price recommendation.
For manufacturer documentation and support, consult the Kenwood TYPE BLP90 manual, Kenwood UK manuals support page and Kenwood UK FAQ and spare-parts route. Who might consider it?
The BLP900BK’s documented strengths are practical rather than proven performance advantages: a 2 L plastic jug, programme buttons for smoothies, ice and soup, and manual speed and pulse controls. Its 54 cm listed height, 5.3 kg blender weight, 80 dB listed noise level and hand-washing requirements are also relevant trade-offs. It could make sense if those features suit your kitchen and you find a complete, sound unit at an acceptable price. If your choice depends on how well it handles a particular ingredient, the publicly available scores do not answer that question.
