Neither Keeper nor LastPass is the right choice for everyone. Keeper is worth considering if its documented vault-security approach and passkey support fit your devices and you are comfortable with the plan price and possible add-ons. LastPass may suit households looking for six separate accounts under Families, but its 2022 theft of customer vault backups and its 2026 supplier-related data incident are important trust considerations. Compare the features you will actually use, then verify the current checkout price and plan terms before subscribing.

How do Keeper and LastPass compare at a glance?

Both are subscription password managers with vaults and authentication features. The clearest differences in the available plan information are the documented prices for Keeper, the six accounts included with LastPass Families, and the disclosed security incidents involving LastPass. Features and prices can depend on plan, device, and checkout terms.

What to compare Keeper LastPass
Published personal-plan price Keeper Security’s help page, last updated April 1, 2026, lists Keeper Unlimited at $42.99 per year. Confirm current regional and renewal terms at checkout. Keeper pricing help LastPass lists Premium, but its pricing page uses dynamic prices and promotional terms. Check your regional checkout rather than relying on a cached price. LastPass pricing
Family plan information The same Keeper help page lists Keeper Family at $91.99; it does not establish the account count or all current checkout terms here. Confirm the included users and features on the live plan page before comparing. Families includes six Premium accounts, each with a separate encrypted vault. Check the current checkout amount and terms. LastPass pricing
Authentication information documented in the cited materials Keeper documents FIDO2 hardware-key support and passkeys. Its help article says passkeys are supported on Android 14+ and iOS 17+. Keeper security documentation · Keeper passkey help LastPass lists hardware MFA options, including FIDO2 authenticators. Check the plan and device requirements for the options you intend to use. LastPass plan information
Disclosed incidents relevant to this comparison The cited materials describe Keeper’s security approach; they do not establish that Keeper has never had a security incident. LastPass disclosed theft of customer vault backups in 2022 and a separate supplier-related access incident involving business data in 2026. The scope of each is different.

What do the LastPass security incidents mean for trust?

There are two distinct disclosures to understand. The 2022 incident involved copies of customer vault backups, while LastPass’s June 2026 notice described access to certain business data through a supplier-related incident. Neither should be reduced to a blanket claim that every vault was exposed in the same way.

The 2022 theft included encrypted vault data and exposed fields

In its December 22, 2022 notice, LastPass said an attacker copied a customer vault backup from cloud storage. The company said the backup contained unencrypted information such as website URLs as well as encrypted sensitive fields, including usernames and passwords. It described those encrypted fields as protected with 256-bit AES, using keys derived from each user’s master password. LastPass’s December 2022 notice

In a March 1, 2023 update, LastPass said the copied material included customer metadata and vault-data backups. It specified that sensitive vault data was encrypted except for URLs, file paths to installed LastPass software on Windows or macOS, and certain uses involving email addresses. LastPass also said end-user master passwords were not stored by the company and were not among the exfiltrated data. LastPass’s March 2023 update

That distinction matters: the disclosure was not that attackers obtained a readable list of every password, but it also was not accurate to say no vault data was stolen. Encrypted fields and unencrypted URLs or metadata have different exposure implications. The cited notices do not establish that attackers successfully decrypted every copied vault.

The 2026 disclosure concerned business and CRM data

On June 22, 2026, LastPass said a threat actor used OAuth tokens obtained in a Klue supplier incident to access customer data in LastPass’s Salesforce environment. LastPass said the affected information was limited to business contact and CRM data, support-case information, and sales-related data; it said vaults and product infrastructure were not impacted. This is LastPass’s account of the incident, not an independent verification. LastPass’s June 2026 incident notice

How to use this history in your decision

If your choice depends heavily on incident history, weigh both the type of data involved and the company’s disclosures. The 2022 event directly involved copied vault backups, with a mix of encrypted and unencrypted fields. The 2026 disclosure described access to business-related data in a Salesforce environment, not password vaults. The cited material does not support a categorical finding that one service is safer overall.

Which plans and prices should you compare?

Keeper’s official help page lists Keeper Unlimited at $42.99 per year and Keeper Family at $91.99; the page was last updated April 1, 2026. It does not establish every regional, renewal, or promotional condition, so treat these as published figures and confirm the amount and billing terms shown at checkout. Keeper’s pricing help article

LastPass’s official page lists Premium and Families, but the captured numeric price fields are dynamic and the page uses promotional terms. A cached third-party figure may not match your region or current offer; use the live checkout to determine the amount you would pay. LastPass pricing by plan

Do not compare a plan headline alone. Check whether the plan includes the devices, users, authentication options, and extras you need, and whether an optional feature changes the total. Security.org’s 2026 hands-on comparison reports add-on costs for some Keeper features; its observations and any displayed prices are that publication’s findings, not a guarantee of your checkout total. Which one makes more sense for a family?

LastPass gives a clear account-count figure: Families includes six Premium accounts with separate encrypted vaults. That is useful if you need distinct accounts rather than one shared login. Confirm the current subscription amount and terms before purchase. LastPass Families plan details

Keeper’s cited pricing help lists a Family plan price, but does not establish the current number of included accounts or all included features. Check its live plan details and checkout before treating the price as directly comparable to LastPass Families. Keeper plan pricing information

How do passkeys and hardware keys affect the choice?

Keeper documents support for FIDO2 hardware keys and passkeys. Its passkey help page gives platform minimums of Android 14+ and iOS 17+. Keeper defines a passkey as a cryptographic credential for signing in without entering a password or a second factor. Check the help page for the current setup details for your device. Keeper passkey support · Keeper security documentation

LastPass lists hardware MFA options that include FIDO2 authenticators. That does not by itself establish feature parity with Keeper’s passkey support: check the LastPass plan information and your device’s compatibility for the exact sign-in method you want. A hardware security key is an optional physical way to authenticate; the cited materials do not say that one is required for either service. LastPass plan information

Which password manager is better for your situation?

Consider Keeper if

  • You prioritize the layered vault-security approach described in Keeper’s documentation and want its documented FIDO2 key and passkey options.
  • Your devices meet the stated passkey platform requirements, or you have verified that the sign-in method you want is available on your devices.
  • The published Keeper price and any feature add-ons fit your budget after you confirm current checkout terms.

Consider LastPass if

  • You want a family plan with a stated six Premium accounts and separate encrypted vaults.
  • The features on the plan page match your needs and the current checkout terms are acceptable.
  • You have considered the 2022 vault-backup theft and the separate 2026 supplier-related disclosure as part of your trust decision.

Security.org also publishes a 2026 comparison with hands-on observations, but those findings reflect its own evaluation rather than a universal experience. Neither the cited vendor documentation nor the independent comparison establishes a single winner for every user. Security.org comparison
