Karmine Corp defeated Cloud9 3–2 in the opening round of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship Play-In on 15 October. In this article, “first blood” means KC won the first EU-versus-NA series of the event—not that a KC player necessarily secured the first in-game kill.
Karmine Corp takes the opening EU–NA series
The Cloud9–Karmine Corp match was a best-of-five scheduled for 18:00 UTC on 15 October 2026. Karmine Corp emerged as the series winner, giving Europe the first result in this direct Play-In meeting with North America.

Liquipedia’s match record identifies the Round 1 pairing and date. Sheep Esports lists the same best-of-five, start time and team lineups. A post-match report cited in the available coverage records the final score as Cloud9 2–3 Karmine Corp; because that score comes from secondary reporting, it should be treated as a reported result rather than as a player or game-stat database entry.

The phrase describes the first series win in the tournament’s EU-versus-NA storyline. It is not evidence about the first champion kill inside any individual game. The accessible match material does not identify which player took that literal first kill, so no player should be credited with it from this result alone.

How the result changes the Play-In bracket
The 2026 Play-In field contains four teams—Cloud9, Karmine Corp, MVK Esports and FURIA—in a double-elimination format. Only one team earns a place in the Swiss stage, according to the tournament preview from AS/Meristation.
- Karmine Corp: advances along the upper-bracket route. Another win keeps the team in contention without an elimination match.
- Cloud9: drops to the lower bracket. The next loss there ends its World Championship run.
- MVK Esports and FURIA: remain part of the four-team race for the single Swiss-stage berth; their exact bracket paths depend on the other Play-In result.
That structure makes the opening series more consequential than a routine group-stage game: one team is protected by the winners’ path, while the other must survive every subsequent lower-bracket match.

What the EU-versus-NA comparison can legitimately show
Series resilience
A best-of-five requires a team to win three games, so the format tests adaptation across multiple drafts and games rather than a single upset. The reported outcome gives KC the first series advantage, but the available material does not provide game-by-game drafts, durations or comeback data to explain how either side reached the final score.
Regional stakes
Because the Play-In offers only one Swiss-stage place, this is a direct race for limited international representation. KC’s upper-bracket position gives Europe an immediate pathway advantage in this four-team phase; Cloud9 must now use the lower bracket to stay in contention for North America.

Roster matchups
The listed top-lane, jungle, mid-lane, bot-lane and support pairings provide the correct framework for later analysis. No cited source supplies verified gold differences, kill participation, first-kill data or lane-by-lane results, so those performance claims should not be inferred from the series score.

The 18:00 UTC listing appears in both the Sheep Esports match entry and Sofascore’s live-score page. Liquipedia supplies the Round 1 date and pairing, while AS/Meristation describes the four-team, double-elimination format and its single qualification place. The reported series score comes from post-match discussion and should be read in that context until an official game-stat record is available.
What happens next
Karmine Corp’s next Play-In assignment is on the winners’ side of the bracket, where one more victory would move it closer to the sole Swiss-stage berth. Cloud9’s next match is a lower-bracket elimination test: a win keeps its campaign alive, while a loss removes it from Worlds 2026. The remaining bracket pairing determines the opponents and exact match times.
