Automobil obično nema kameru koja snima odozgo. Sistem koristi nekoliko širokougaonih kamera oko vozila, a računar ispravlja, poravnava i spaja njihove snimke tako da na ekranu izgledaju kao pogled iz virtuelne kamere iznad automobila.
Odakle dolaze slike
Uobičajeni sistemi koriste četiri kamere: jednu napred, jednu pozadi i po jednu sa svake strane. Njihov tačan položaj zavisi od vozila. Nissan navodi kamere postavljene oko vozila, dok Toyota Canada opisuje kamere u prednjoj maski, blizu zadnje registarske tablice i ispod oba retrovizora. Nissanov opis Intelligent Around View Monitora i Toyota Canada prikazuju primere takvih rasporeda. Texas Instruments navodi da sistemi mogu koristiti četiri do šest kamera, pa četiri nije univerzalno pravilo.

Svaka kamera pokriva deo prostora oko vozila. Njihova širokougaona, često ribljeoko slika obuhvata mnogo okoline, ali je geometrijski izobličena i sama po sebi ne izgleda kao uredan pogled odozgo.

Ispravljanje izobličenja
Procesor obrađuje snimak svake kamere da bi ublažio izobličenje širokougaonog objektiva. Bez tog koraka ivice i oblici ne bi se slagali na način potreban za zajednički prikaz. Tehnički rad Texas Instrumentsa opisuje korekciju izobličenja kao deo obrade slike.

Geometrijsko poravnanje
Sistem transformiše kadrove u zajedničku perspektivu odozgo i usklađuje delove koje susedne kamere vide istovremeno. Za to su važni položaj i ugao svake kamere, kao i kalibracija njihovog prikaza. Texas Instruments ovu obradu sažima u dve ključne komponente: geometrijsko poravnanje i sintezu kompozitnog prikaza.

Spajanje i usklađivanje slike
Računar spaja preklapajuća područja susednih kadrova. Pošto kamere mogu snimati pri različitom osvetljenju ili prikazivati boje neznatno drugačije, sistem može da ih harmonizuje kako bi prelazi bili manje upadljivi. General Motors opisuje projekciju u zajednički koordinatni sistem, spajanje preklapanja i usklađivanje boja u svom opisu razvoja sistema kamera.

Prikaz virtuelne perspektive
Rezultujuća slika je kompozit napravljen od snimaka oko vozila, a ne stvarni snimak iz tačke iznad krova. GM objašnjava da njegov Top-Down View sintetiše perspektivu kao da je virtuelna kamera postavljena iznad automobila.

Zašto se ponekad vide šavovi կամ померања
Spoj zavisi од тога колико су снимци прецизно геометријски усклађени. GM наводи да грешка оријентације мања од 0,1° може створити видљиве шавове или неусклађене делове у спојеном приказу. Зато се објекат близу границе између два кадра може приказати са прекидом или помереном ивицом; слика је састављена из различитих углова, а не снимљена једном камером.

„360°“ и „поглед из птичје перспективе“ описују породицу функција, не један идентичан систем. Модел и пакет опреме одређују број и положај камера, доступне приказе и услове рада. Неки системи нуде приказ одозго, предњи или задњи поглед, бочне приказе или 3D перспективу. Доступност тих режима није иста код сваког возила.
И брзинска ограничења зависе од система. GMC Canada наводи да се HD Surround Vision у већини возила не може користити изнад 8 mph (12 km/h); та граница није опште правило за све произвођаче и моделе. Проверите упутство за конкретно возило и његову опрему. GMC Canada: HD Surround Vision.

Како безбедно користити приказ
Камере су помоћ при паркирању и маневрисању, а не замена за проверу околине. Приказ зависи од стања камера, њиховог поравнања и услова у окружењу. Toyota Canada упозорава да хладно време и други фактори могу ограничити рад система. Пре маневра погледајте око возила, користите ретровизоре и проверите преко рамена, у складу са упутствима за свој модел.
Кључна разлика је једноставна: возило не снима са висине крова. Рачунар спаја снимке камера постављених око аутомобила и од њих прави приказ који опонаша поглед одозго.
