JR East says unauthorized access at IDC Frontier may have exposed email log data associated with Eki-net and Otona no Kyujitsu Club. Its October 9, 2026 notice lists up to about 1.67 million Eki-net members and about 390,000 Otona no Kyujitsu Club members as potentially affected—but it does not confirm that every record, or any specific customer’s data, was accessed.
What JR East disclosed
In a notice dated October 9, 2026, East Japan Railway Company (JR East) said unauthorized access at IDC Frontier affected an external service used to deliver member emails for Eki-net and Otona no Kyujitsu Club. Part of the email delivery service was unavailable, and JR East said it could not rule out that email log data had been viewed or acquired. Which information may have been exposed?
The potentially exposed information differs by service. JR East’s figures are maximum potentially affected counts; the notice does not say that everyone in either group had data accessed.

JR East says names, addresses, phone numbers, and credit-card numbers are not at risk in this incident. The two counts refer to separate service populations; the 1.67 million figure is for Eki-net, not the combined total.

Does this mean your information was leaked?
Not necessarily. JR East says it cannot rule out that some email log data was viewed or acquired. Its notice does not establish that every record in the maximum counts was accessed, identify individual affected customers, or report confirmed misuse. If you use either service, the notice alone does not confirm whether your information was involved.
Will JR East contact potentially affected customers?
JR East says it will apologize and notify customers whose information may have been exposed individually by email once preparations are complete. The October 9 notice gives no date for when those messages will be sent. For incident updates, use JR East’s official notice.

How to handle messages about the incident
- Be cautious with unexpected email claiming to provide incident details or account protection steps. The available reports do not establish that a misuse campaign is underway, but an incident can be used as a pretext in deceptive messages.
- Do not click links or open attachments in unsolicited messages. To check for updates, navigate to JR East’s official site independently rather than following a message link.
- Remember which service you use: the potentially exposed fields listed for Otona no Kyujitsu Club include more than an email address, while Eki-net’s listed field is the email address.
