JPMorgan Chase ranked first in the October 2026 Evident AI Index for Banks for the fifth consecutive year. Capital One placed second and Royal Bank of Canada third. The ranking reflects Evident’s assessment of publicly observable AI maturity across large banks—not a direct audit of every bank’s AI systems or proof that JPMorgan has the strongest AI in every workflow.
How JPMorgan compares with other banks
Evident’s 2026 index confirms JPMorganChase, Capital One and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as the top three, in that order. Bloomberg Law reported the result on October 6, 2026. Evident also says every bank in the top ten has appeared there before.

JPMorgan ranked first or second across all four index pillars and widened its overall lead over Capital One. Capital One, however, led the Talent and Innovation pillars. That difference illustrates how a bank can lead on particular dimensions without topping the composite ranking.

The 2026 index covers 50 of the world’s largest banks across North America, Europe and selected Asia-Pacific markets. Evident evaluates banks across four pillars:
#1 Best Overall
- Talent: AI-related workforce capabilities.
- Innovation: evidence of AI development and application.
- Leadership: organizational direction and commitment around AI.
- Transparency: public evidence and disclosure about AI activity.
Evident’s 2026 Key Findings Report says the index uses 75 indicators and millions of data points. Its methodology calls the approach an “outside-in” assessment, drawing on public information, bank reporting and third-party data. The result is a benchmark of externally observable AI maturity and disclosure; it is not a direct inspection of each bank’s internal systems.
What changed across the industry in 2026
Evident reports that the average bank’s index score rose 26%—or 9.6 points—year over year. It says that increase was nearly three times the average year-over-year score increase across 2023–25. These figures describe movement in the index score, not a 26% increase in AI deployment, productivity, revenue or financial return.
Rank #2
The report also points to a gap between adoption and disclosed results. According to Evident, 80% of leading banks had adopted sophisticated control mechanisms, compared with 40% of the rest of the industry. Across reported use cases, 12% showed impact against operational KPIs, while barely 1% disclosed concrete financial returns. Those measures concern the banks and use cases covered by Evident’s analysis; they do not establish JPMorgan-specific financial returns.

The index is useful for comparing the evidence banks make visible under a common framework. It does not establish that the top-ranked bank has the most capable AI in every internal workflow, nor does it measure a complete, audited return on AI investment. A high score reflects Evident’s assessment across its four pillars and available evidence, not a universal verdict on technical performance.
In Bloomberg Law’s October 6, 2026 report, Evident co-founder and co-chief executive Alexandra Mousavizadeh said: “Roles are changing, and some are not being backfilled, but the banks at the top of our Index are growing, and growing headcount.” That is Mousavizadeh’s characterization, as quoted by Bloomberg Law, rather than a separate finding established by the index figures cited here.
