The best next film depends on which part of John Wick you want more of. Choose The Raid: Redemption for sustained close-quarters martial arts, Atomic Blonde for sleek espionage, Nobody for revenge with a comic edge, Extraction for a rescue mission, or Mission: Impossible for increasingly enormous stunt set pieces. None is a universal duplicate of John Wick; each matches a different ingredient.
This guide compares those films by choreography, gunplay, stunt scale, story setup, tone and criminal or spy-world setting. Streaming catalogs change by country, so verify the selected title’s availability in your territory immediately before watching.

Start with the John Wick element you want to repeat
John Wick combines several pleasures that action films do not always share: readable close-quarters choreography, precise gunplay, practical-looking stunts, a revenge engine, deadpan seriousness and an elaborate criminal underworld. A film can resemble one of those traits while moving far away from the others.

The Raid: Redemption: choose this for the purest close-combat pressure
Premise and verified details
The Raid: Redemption is a 2011 Indonesian action-crime film directed by Gareth Evans. Disney+’s title information lists a runtime of 1 hour 41 minutes and classifies it as International, Martial Arts, Action and Crime. Its setup is direct: an elite SWAT team enters a tenement controlled by a ruthless drug lord and must fight upward through armed resistance.
The service’s description calls it a non-stop, bone-breaking hand-to-hand battle. That is promotional language rather than an independent critical judgment, but it accurately signals the film’s narrow, escalating structure: a dangerous building, limited exits and opponents arriving floor by floor.
Why it works after John Wick
- Choreography: Combat is the main event. Silat-based strikes, grappling and improvised weapons are staged so the viewer can follow bodies, distance and momentum.
- Pressure: The tenement setting removes the open spaces and pauses that a globe-spanning thriller might offer. Every corridor, stairwell and room can become a trap.
- Economy: At 1 hour 41 minutes, the film commits to its central raid rather than expanding into a large mythology.
- Crime setting: Organized criminals and a fortified building provide a crime-world atmosphere, although not the ritualized hotel-and-contract society of John Wick.
Important distinction
This is not a gun-heavy assassin fantasy. Firearms appear, but the film’s identity is physical combat and tactical movement in a confined location. It is also an Indonesian production, so viewers should expect a different language and cultural setting, with subtitles depending on the edition. Pick it when the question is “Where can I get the most sustained fighting?” rather than “Which film reproduces Wick’s exact style?”
Atomic Blonde: choose this for spycraft, style and hard-edged fights
Premise and verified details
Focus Features lists Atomic Blonde as a 2017 Action/Thriller released on July 28, 2017, directed by David Leitch. Leitch also directed the first John Wick, making this the most direct behind-the-camera connection in the group. The story follows MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton on a covert mission in Cold War Berlin.

What it shares with Wick
- Deliberate physicality: Fights feel exhausting rather than weightless. Hits, falls and recovery matter, and the choreography often uses walls, stairs and whatever is available in the room.
- Stylized presentation: Color, music, wardrobe and controlled camera movement give the violence a designed, graphic quality.
- Professional protagonist: Broughton is operating under a mission and a set of skills, not stumbling into action by accident.
- Competent set pieces: The film treats preparation, positioning and escape as part of the action rather than cutting directly from one explosion to the next.
How the experience differs
Atomic Blonde is a spy thriller first. Its tension comes from intelligence, double-crosses, identities and the geopolitical atmosphere of divided Berlin. The question is not simply who deserves revenge; it is what information can be trusted and who is manipulating the operation. That espionage structure makes the narrative less mythic than John Wick and more concerned with tradecraft.
Choose it if the Wick elements you miss are sharp visual design, a highly trained lead and punishing fights, but you are happy to exchange the criminal underworld for MI6 intrigue. The shared director is a useful reason to try it, not proof that the two films are interchangeable.
Nobody: choose this for an ordinary-person revenge story with comic relief
Premise and connection
Nobody follows Hutch Mansell, a seemingly unremarkable family man whose suppressed violent abilities return after a triggering incident. The cited recommendation guide links the film to Derek Kolstad, the writer associated with John Wick, while emphasizing that it remains a separate story and franchise.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhere the match is strongest
- Revenge engine: A personal grievance pushes the protagonist back into a dangerous life, giving the film the forward drive many viewers seek after Wick.
- Hidden capability: The lead initially appears ordinary, so each reveal of training or past experience changes how earlier scenes are interpreted.
- Compact action design: Encounters emphasize impact, timing and painful consequences instead of treating the hero as invulnerable.
- Criminal escalation: A personal conflict grows into a larger confrontation with organized violence.
The tonal trade-off
Nobody is lighter and more openly comic than John Wick. Its humor comes from the contrast between suburban normality and extreme violence, so the film repeatedly undercuts the solemnity that surrounds Wick’s legend. If you want a tragic, almost ritualized revenge tale, that difference may be a drawback. If you want similar momentum with jokes and a more relatable starting point, it is the reason to choose it.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Do not treat the Kolstad connection as evidence of a shared continuity. The films have no common franchise story; the useful comparison is their approach to a protagonist whose past violence resurfaces.
Extraction: choose this for rescue-mission intensity
What the recommendation promises
The cited action guide recommends Extraction as a high-intensity alternative. Its central structure is a rescue mission: an operative must recover a target and survive a hostile environment. That objective gives the film a different rhythm from a revenge narrative. The protagonist is solving an urgent operational problem while moving through escalating resistance.
Why Wick viewers may respond
- Forward motion: The rescue objective keeps the action moving from one obstacle to the next.
- Physical commitment: Encounters are forceful and close, with the hero often fighting while injured, outnumbered or short on options.
- Urban danger: Crowded streets, buildings and improvised barriers create tactical problems instead of presenting a clean shooting gallery.
- Survival stakes: The tension comes from protecting another person and escaping alive, not from enforcing an underworld code.
What to expect instead of assassin mythology
Extraction does not offer the Continental-style institutions, contracts or formal rules that make John Wick feel like a fantasy society. Its intensity is mission-based and immediate. Choose it when you want a hard, sustained rescue operation; avoid it if your main attraction is the elaborate criminal lore surrounding Wick.
Mission: Impossible: choose this for the largest stunt spectacle
Why it belongs in the comparison
The recommendation guide identifies Mission: Impossible as the better fit when the desired ingredient is larger-than-life stunt spectacle. Across the franchise, set pieces have become increasingly elaborate, often built around practical-feeling physical risks, complex escapes and international locations.

How its action differs from Wick
| Dimension | John Wick | Mission: Impossible |
|---|---|---|
| Core fantasy | An almost legendary assassin navigating a criminal society. | A spy team improvising through global conspiracies and impossible assignments. |
| Action scale | Readable gunplay and close combat, often at room or street level. | Set pieces expand toward vehicles, architecture, altitude and international spectacle. |
| Story engine | Personal loss, revenge and underworld consequences. | Mission objectives, intelligence, betrayals and preventing catastrophe. |
| Tone | Stylized, severe and deliberately mythic. | Suspenseful spy adventure with team dynamics and escalating spectacle. |
Select a specific installment according to the scale you want, but do not expect a one-to-one replacement for Wick’s gun-fu. The franchise is the answer to “What has bigger, more elaborate stunts?” rather than “What has the same assassin choreography?”
Compare the five choices by the feature you care about
| Film | Close-quarters choreography | Gunplay | Stunt scale | Story setup | World and tone |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Raid: Redemption | Very high; sustained martial-arts combat in confined spaces. | Present but secondary to hand-to-hand fighting. | Focused, building-level physical danger. | SWAT raid against a drug lord’s tenement. | Crime action; severe and pressured. |
| Atomic Blonde | High; bruising fights integrated into spy scenes. | Important, but subordinate to espionage tension. | Stylish set pieces rather than Wick’s underworld duels. | MI6 covert mission in Cold War Berlin. | Spy thriller; sleek, paranoid and tough. |
| Nobody | High in bursts, with improvised and painful encounters. | Used within a revenge escalation. | Moderate to high, serving the personal story. | Apparently ordinary man returns to a violent past. | Revenge action with a comic note. |
| Extraction | High during survival and escape sequences. | Part of a continuous rescue operation. | Large, mission-driven urban action. | Operative attempts a dangerous extraction. | Hard-edged rescue thriller. |
| Mission: Impossible | Varies by installment; not primarily gun-fu. | Supports spy missions and escapes. | Highest overall; international, vehicle and architectural spectacle. | Global intelligence assignments and conspiracies. | Spy adventure with escalating scale. |
Pick by mood, not by an “objective similarity” ranking
If you want the most concentrated fight experience
Start with The Raid: Redemption. Its tenement premise means the film can spend unusual time on movement, exhaustion and hand-to-hand exchanges. The trade-off is a smaller geographic and narrative canvas.
If you want Wick’s visual polish with espionage instead of crime lore
Choose Atomic Blonde. David Leitch’s involvement gives the comparison a concrete production link, while the Cold War setting supplies a different kind of danger: surveillance, divided loyalties and uncertain information.
If you want a revenge premise but less solemnity
Choose Nobody. The hidden-past setup is familiar enough to satisfy the revenge impulse, while the comedy keeps the film from becoming a straight imitation.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you want one urgent objective and no elaborate mythology
Choose Extraction. A rescue mission creates immediate stakes and a clear measure of success: get the target out alive.
If you want the event-movie version of action
Choose Mission: Impossible. Its appeal is the size and intricacy of the set pieces, not a duplicate of Wick’s criminal code or close-range gunplay.
A practical two-film and three-film watch plan
Two-film plans
- Combat-first plan: Watch The Raid: Redemption after John Wick to move from stylized gun-fu toward nearly continuous martial arts.
- Spy-first plan: Watch Atomic Blonde to retain polished action while changing the setting to Cold War intelligence work.
- Light-revenge plan: Watch Nobody when you want the hidden-violent-past structure with more jokes.
- Mission-first plan: Watch Extraction when rescue and survival sound more appealing than revenge.
- Spectacle-first plan: Watch a Mission: Impossible installment when practical-feeling, large-scale stunts are the priority.
A three-film sampler
For the broadest tour of modern action styles, use The Raid: Redemption, Atomic Blonde and Mission: Impossible. Together they show the range from confined martial arts, through stylized spy combat, to global stunt spectacle. Add Nobody if tone matters most, or Extraction if you prefer a single rescue objective.

Where to watch and how to verify availability
Streaming availability is regional and changes frequently. Netflix’s action catalog has displayed Extraction, Extraction 2 and Nobody 2, but a catalog page is not proof that every title is available to every subscriber in every country. Disney+ has a title page for The Raid: Redemption; confirm that the page is active in your territory and that your subscription includes it.
A 2023 recommendation guide included regional streaming examples for some of these films. Those examples are dated and should not be treated as current availability. Check the service’s local search, the film’s current rental listings or a reputable regional availability tracker immediately before starting a movie.
If you are collecting the source franchise rather than choosing a next film, the official John Wick franchise site lists the first four films on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD. It also lists Ballerina and Wick Is Pain among its offerings. Exact editions, prices and stock can change, so verify the individual listing before buying.
Quick Recap
What not to assume about these comparisons
- “Similar” is not a measurable ranking. A film may match choreography while differing completely in tone or story.
- A shared creator is not a shared universe. David Leitch directed both John Wick and Atomic Blonde; Derek Kolstad’s connection to Nobody does not place the films in one continuity.
- Streaming presence is not permanent. A service page, regional catalog and subscription tier can all affect whether you can play a title.
- Action intensity is not the same as stunt scale. The Raid: Redemption can feel more relentless than a larger spy spectacle because it concentrates danger in a confined building.
- Do not expect every film to duplicate Wick’s rules. The Continental-style criminal institutions are a distinctive part of John Wick, not a standard feature of modern action thrillers.
Bottom line by viewer type
| Your priority | Best starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| “Keep the fights close and constant.” | The Raid: Redemption | Its SWAT raid turns a tenement into a sustained martial-arts gauntlet. |
| “Keep the style, but give me spies.” | Atomic Blonde | It combines David Leitch’s action connection with a Cold War MI6 mission. |
| “Give me revenge with jokes.” | Nobody | Its apparently ordinary protagonist returns to violence in a lighter register. |
| “Give me a brutal rescue.” | Extraction | The story is organized around a high-intensity extraction and survival. |
| “Make the stunts as big as possible.” | Mission: Impossible | Its spy framework supports increasingly elaborate, large-scale set pieces. |
