John C. Reilly has reportedly expressed interest in making a third Wreck-It Ralph film, but that is not the same as a Disney announcement: no greenlight, production schedule, plot or release date is established by the available report. The clearest creative case for another film comes from the earlier sequel’s creators, who said they needed a compelling reason to continue—and found one in the internet setting and the new conflict it created for Ralph and Vanellope.
Does John C. Reilly want Wreck-It Ralph 3?
A ComicBook.com report published October 2, 2026, says Reilly wants to make a third film and is positive about the possibility. The report’s accessible excerpt does not establish a detailed explanation from Reilly, so it would be misleading to attribute a specific plot idea or rationale to him as a confirmed quote.

Reilly voiced Ralph in the original film and its sequel. Disney dates Wreck-It Ralph to November 2, 2012, rates it PG, and lists Reilly among the cast on its official film page.

No Disney greenlight, production start, creative team, story or release window is confirmed by the October 2026 report. Reilly’s reported enthusiasm is an expression of interest, not evidence that the studio has approved a project. The report is the current source addressing his interest, but its full interview text could not be verified from the accessible excerpt.

What could make another sequel worth making?
The strongest grounded answer comes from the filmmakers’ explanation of why they made the second film. In a September 20, 2018 interview with Disney, director and co-writer Phil Johnston said, “We weren’t gonna make a sequel though unless there was a very good reason to do it.” Director Rich Moore recalled that the internet setting immediately offered “opportunities for comedy, for conflict between our two main characters.”
That setting became the basis of Ralph Breaks the Internet: Ralph and Vanellope leave Litwak’s arcade to find a replacement Sugar Rush game piece before the game is unplugged. A third film would need its own story engine—not simply a new digital destination—if it is to meet the standard Johnston described.
A fresh conflict between Ralph and Vanellope
The internet mattered because it put pressure on the friends’ relationship, not just because it supplied new visual territory. A useful sequel premise would give them a real disagreement or competing needs that reveal how their friendship has changed. This is a story criterion drawn from the filmmakers’ comments, not an announced plan for a third movie.

A next step in a friendship that is growing up
Reilly described the earlier sequel’s arcade-to-internet shift as a metaphor: “the arcade is like a ‘childhood’ area for [Ralph and Vanellope’s] friendship, and the Internet represents this larger world beyond that—as they grow and mature…” In D23’s November 12, 2018 interview, he also discussed Ralph as a fish-out-of-water character and the internet as an expansive setting. A follow-up could extend that coming-of-age idea, but no such story has been reported as fact.

A meaningful role for the arcade
The first film’s world is an arcade where Ralph crosses game boundaries to prove he can be a hero, according to Disney’s film description. A third installment could gain emotional weight by making that home world matter again rather than treating it as a backdrop. That, too, is an editorial test for a possible story—not confirmation of what Disney or the filmmakers intend.
