Where the “up to $250 million” figure comes from
The figure belongs to the prior agreement announced in 2024. The Associated Press reported that the Wall Street Journal estimated that deal could be worth up to $250 million over its multi-year term, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. AP said Spotify declined to comment on the financial details. It was a reported estimate, not an officially disclosed deal value, and it should not be carried over to the 2026 agreement.

Spotify’s 2026 announcement says JRE was the top podcast across all major platforms in 2025. It does not provide a methodology or platform-by-platform ranking data, so this is Spotify’s claim rather than a fully documented independent comparison.
Spotify also says JRE has 18 million followers and has been its most-followed show since the partnership began in 2020. Followers are not the same as listeners, downloads, or a chart position. Separately, Spotify’s 2024 announcement said the show had been the top podcast in Spotify Wrapped each year since 2020; that is a historical Spotify ranking claim, distinct from the 2025 cross-platform statement.
