JioPages is now presented as JioSphere, a free browser from Jio with separate phone and Android TV experiences. It is most appealing if you want an India-focused browser, built-in ad blocking, or a browser to try on a television. Its incognito mode and VPN are conveniences, not proof of anonymity or independently verified privacy. For everyday phone browsing, whether it is better for you depends on how much you value its regional content and built-in features over the ecosystem and customization of other browsers.
What is JioSphere, and what happened to JioPages?
JioSphere is Jio’s general-purpose web browser, with an India-focused interface and content layer. Jio’s current product page and its Android TV listing describe JioSphere as formerly JioPages; that supports calling it a rebrand, not treating the names as unrelated products. It does not establish that every feature or version is identical across the old and current apps. Jio’s product page and the Google Play TV listing use the current name.
The browser is distinct from JioTV, JioTV+, JioHotstar, JioFiber, Jio’s set-top-box operating system, and JioPC. It may surface or link to content in the wider Jio ecosystem, but using JioSphere is not the same as using those services.
Jio directs Android phone users to find JioSphere in Google Play, and a JioSphere browser is listed for Android TV. The TV listing names Jio Platforms Limited as developer. Availability and features can vary by platform, country, app package, and version, so check the listing for your device rather than assuming the phone and TV editions match.

Quick verdict: who should consider JioSphere?
- Android TV households: Worth trying if you want a browser designed for a large screen, voice search, and built-in ad blocking. A browser still cannot guarantee that a streaming site will work well with a remote or play protected video.

Jio describes the browser as fast, but this is a vendor claim rather than a published controlled comparison. No numerical speed verdict is warranted without repeatable tests on identified devices, Android versions, network conditions, and app versions. The same caution applies to claims about VPN impact on connection speed.

How useful is JioSphere on Android TV?
Android TV is the more distinctive use case. A television browser can be handy for opening a web page, searching by voice, or visiting a site without switching to a phone or laptop. Jio markets JioSphere for Android Smart TVs and promotes voice search, ad blocking, VPN access, and web video. The Google Play listing establishes that a TV-oriented listing exists, not that it works on every Smart TV or streaming device.
What can make TV browsing awkward
- Typing URLs and passwords with a remote is slower than using a phone keyboard.
- Pointer movement, page scaling, and navigation can vary by TV hardware and browser version.
- A website may display a desktop layout that is difficult to control from the sofa or may identify the TV browser as unsupported.
- Video playback, full-screen controls, subtitles, and DRM-protected streams depend on the site and device. A TV browser is not a reliable substitute for a service’s native app.

Does JioSphere’s ad blocker block all ads?
No universal blocking claim is established. Jio advertises an ad blocker and says blocked-ad counts can appear on the home screen. A browser-level blocker may remove some advertisements or pop-ups embedded in ordinary web pages, which can make cluttered pages easier to use, particularly on a television. That is different from blocking ads at the network or operating-system level.
Do not assume it blocks advertisements embedded in video streams, ads in native apps, TV-platform promotions, or ads delivered from the same infrastructure as a site’s content. Nor does the feature establish that every redirect, tracking script, or anti-ad-blocking measure will be stopped. On a shared phone, Jio provides an incognito PIN option. Its documented path is: open the hamburger menu, choose Settings, find Incognito mode settings under Security, and set a PIN. The VPN is convenient, but its technical privacy is not established
Jio promotes a built-in VPN as a privacy feature. Its FAQ says activation may require watching short advertisements and can be for several hours or an entire day; rules and availability may change. That makes it a potentially convenient occasional feature, but an ad-supported or time-limited activation is not the same as a continuously available VPN subscription.
The available product information does not establish the VPN protocol, encryption details, server locations, logging policy specific to the VPN, independent security audits, DNS protections, or whether it covers all device traffic or only browser traffic. It also does not establish whether traffic is routed through Jio infrastructure or a third party. Do not infer those properties from the word “VPN,” or treat the feature as an audited VPN service, a device-wide VPN, or a guarantee of anonymity.
Consider the browser’s wider data disclosures
Jio’s privacy policy material discusses possible collection of personal, technical, diagnostic, usage-related, location, cookie, and other information, subject to the relevant service and policy. It also notes that third-party sites and services have their own privacy policies. These disclosures do not by themselves prove misuse, but privacy features such as incognito and VPN should be assessed separately from the company’s broader data practices. Clear cache, cookies, and other browsing data
- Open the hamburger menu and select Settings.
- Under Privacy, choose Clear browsing data.
- Select Basic, then choose a time range such as Last hour or All time.
- Select the data types to remove and tap Clear data.
Jio lists these controls in its instructions for clearing cache, cookies, and web storage.

Share a page or add a shortcut
To share, open the page, open the hamburger menu, select Share, and choose an available email, messaging, social, or other option.
