Jeff Bezos Says Blue Origin Will Likely Pursue an IPO, but Not Soon

Jeff Bezos has said Blue Origin will probably become a public company at some point, but he placed that possibility several years away. In an October 7, 2026 interview on Fox News Channel’s Special Report with Bret Baier, he did not announce a filing, an offering date, a share price, or a way for ordinary investors to buy shares. The remarks describe an intention, not a scheduled public offering, so Blue Origin stock cannot be bought on the strength of this news.

What Bezos actually said

Reuters, in a report republished by Investing.com, quotes Bezos in the interview as saying: “I think, someday, Blue Origin will have an IPO… It would be several years from now. But it probably makes sense for Blue Origin to be a public company at some point.”

Two parts of that statement carry most of the weight. The first is the word “someday,” which signals a direction rather than a plan with dates. The second is the explicit time frame of “several years.” Taken together, they describe a founder’s view that a listing is a reasonable eventual step. They are not a commitment from the company, and they do not come from a regulatory document.

Intention versus a scheduled offering

The gap between those two things is the most important distinction for readers. A stated intention can change with business conditions, funding needs, and leadership decisions. A scheduled offering normally shows up as a series of concrete, checkable steps. The table below separates what has been reported from what has not.

Item Status as reported Source and date
Bezos says an IPO is possible someday Stated view, with a “several years” time frame Bezos on Fox News Channel, October 7, 2026, as quoted by Reuters
Public registration filing for a listing Not reported in the sources reviewed No filing identified as of October 2026
Offering date, timetable, or price range Not stated No company announcement identified in the same reporting
Outside funding round of $10 billion Reported as Blue Origin’s first outside funding round Reuters, 2026
$140 billion valuation for the recent round Private-round valuation attributed to the Wall Street Journal; not an IPO price Wall Street Journal, as reported by Reuters, September 2026
New Glenn flying again in December 2026 Bezos’s stated plan; not a verified outcome Bezos, as quoted by Reuters, 2026

The funding round behind the conversation

The IPO remarks came shortly after Blue Origin raised $10 billion from outside investors. Reuters describes this as the company’s first outside funding round, which matters because Blue Origin has historically been funded largely by Bezos himself. Bezos has said he has personally invested $28 billion in the company since it was founded in 2000; that figure is his own statement as reported by Reuters, not an independently audited total.

The $140 billion valuation attributed to the Wall Street Journal is a figure from a private transaction. It should not be read as a market value for the company, an IPO price, or a per-share number that a future investor would pay. Private-round valuations are set by negotiation between the company and the investors in that round, and they do not translate directly into public trading prices.

Operational milestones that come before any listing

A public listing depends on the company’s business being in a state investors can evaluate. Reuters points to several areas that define Blue Origin’s current position:

  • Government contracts. Blue Origin has won multibillion-dollar contracts from NASA and the U.S. Space Force, including work tied to the Artemis program.
  • Launch execution. A May 2026 explosion at a launch pad during a static-fire test delayed the company’s efforts to compete in commercial launches, according to Reuters.
  • Near-term flight plans. Bezos has said New Glenn is planned to fly again in December 2026. That is a stated plan, and the timing has not been confirmed as an outcome.

None of these items is a prerequisite that has been formally tied to an IPO timetable, but each one affects how a future prospectus would describe the business.

Can you buy Blue Origin stock now?

No, not on the basis of these remarks. Buying shares of a company in a public offering generally requires an open offering or an existing public market for its shares. The reporting describes a possible future listing with no offering in progress. A reader who sees headlines about “Blue Origin going public” should check for the following before assuming any opportunity exists:

  • A registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which is the usual public step before a company sells shares to the public.
  • An announced timetable, offering size, or price range from the company or its underwriters.
  • A named exchange or brokerage through which shares would be sold to individual investors.

As of the reporting reviewed here, none of these has been identified for Blue Origin. Any claim of a share price, an IPO valuation, or a purchase route should be treated as unverified unless it comes from a primary filing or a company announcement.

Where SpaceX fits into the comparison

Reuters describes SpaceX as the dominant player in the commercial launch market and says it listed in June 2026. That is the only comparison the reporting supports. It does not establish how Blue Origin’s business, valuation, or prospects compare with SpaceX’s, and it does not make SpaceX’s listing a template for Blue Origin’s timing.

The useful takeaway is narrower. Blue Origin is discussing a listing from a position in which its government work is substantial, its first outside funding round has closed, and its launch schedule is under pressure from the May setback. Those facts explain why the question is being asked. They do not answer when, or whether, a listing will occur.
