The JBL Live Beam 4 pairs a lively, bass-forward sound with a touchscreen charging case and long manufacturer-rated battery life. Reviews praise its comfort and audio, but its noise cancellation and call quality are less convincing, and the case is bulky. It is worth considering if sound and hands-on case controls matter more to you than class-leading ANC or a pocket-friendly design.
What the JBL Live Beam 4 is
The Live Beam 4 is the sealed, stem-style in-ear model in JBL’s Live 4 family. JBL’s UK listing describes it as a true wireless, Hi-Res Audio pair with True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, Smart Ambient, six microphones, multipoint Bluetooth, and a touchscreen Smart Charging Case. The listed driver size is 10 mm, Bluetooth version is 6.0, frequency response is 20 Hz–40 kHz, and dust and water resistance is rated IP55. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. JBL’s UK product specifications

Four ear-tip sizes are included, according to JBL. Reviewers found the earbuds comfortable, but a sealed in-ear fit depends on your ear shape and tip choice. IP55 is a stated protection rating; it does not mean the earbuds are waterproof or suitable for swimming. JBL product details Tom’s Guide review TechRadar review
How the Live Beam 4 sounds
Tom’s Guide describes the sound as punchy, with bass and a wide soundstage. TechRadar likewise praises impactful bass, rich mids, vibrant treble, and an expansive presentation. Those are the reviewers’ listening impressions, not results from a shared laboratory comparison. The overall character appears aimed at listeners who enjoy energetic, bass-forward tuning rather than a strictly neutral presentation. JBL markets the model as having JBL Signature Sound and Hi-Res Audio. Tom’s Guide TechRadar JBL specifications
#1 Best Overall
- Hi-Res Audio Wireless with JBL signature sound
- The JBL Live Beam 3's 10mm dynamic drivers are powered by JBL Signature Sound. Each driver is perfectly tuned to deliver deep bass, balanced mid-range, and refined high frequencies—all at any volume level. JBL Spatial Sound makes you feel like you're at a concert as the sound comes from virtually everywhere around you.
- Convenient Smart Charging Case for app-free control
- You can customize every aspect of your JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds with the 1.45-inch touchscreen display on your Smart Charging Case. The display gives you full control of your sound on any devices - laptop, TV, smartphones, or tablets -, without needing to access the JBL App on your smartphone.
- True adaptive noise cancelling with custom control
Spatial audio is a weaker point
TechRadar found the spatial-audio mode disappointing, reporting less vocal clarity and a compressed quality. Treat that as one reviewer’s assessment; it does not establish how every listener or track will sound. If spatial audio is a key reason you are shopping, this is a feature to audition rather than assume will improve the experience. TechRadar’s review
Noise cancellation and calls
The Beam 4 includes adaptive ANC and Smart Ambient modes, but having ANC is not the same as matching the strongest noise-cancelling earbuds. Tom’s Guide says the cancellation is effective but falls short of Bose QuietComfort. TechRadar also identifies ANC as an area that could be better. Together, the reviews suggest useful everyday noise reduction, with a trade-off for buyers who put maximum isolation first. Tom’s Guide review TechRadar review

- Convenient Smart Charging Case: The 1.45-inch touchscreen display on your Smart Charging Case gives you full control of your sound on any devices - laptop, TV, smartphones, or tablets without needing to access the JBL App on your smartphone.
- True adaptive noise cancelling with custom control: Tune out the outside world entirely or customize just how much ambient sound you decide to let in, with four noise-sensing mics that automatically adapt to your surroundings in real time
- 6 mics for perfect calls: Six beamforming microphones reduce wind and noise interference, so your words always come through loud and clear. And you can create your own calling environment with Personal Sound Amplification’s customized ambient sound levels
- 48 hours total playback plus wireless charging: Enjoy 12 hours of playtime, plus another 36 in the charging case*. 10 minutes on a USB type-C charging cable will give you another 4 hours of playtime. You can also recharge them wirelessly. (*with ANC off)
- Multi-point connection: Switch effortlessly from one Bluetooth device to another, so if you are watching a video on your tablet, you won’t miss a call on your mobile.
JBL lists six microphones and markets its Perfect Calls 2.0 system, but TechRadar says call quality could improve. Microphone count and processing claims do not guarantee that calls will sound ideal in your own noisy surroundings. JBL specifications TechRadar review

The Smart Charging Case is one of the Live Beam 4’s distinguishing features. JBL says its screen can control functions including volume, tracks, ANC, ambient sound, and EQ. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar both praise the interface and controls; TechRadar also calls the case bulky. The screen may be worthwhile if you want to adjust settings without reaching for your phone, but it adds size compared with a simpler case. JBL product details Tom’s Guide TechRadar

- JBL Pure Bass sound: JBL Vibe Beam 2 earbuds feature 8mm dynamic drivers that deliver exciting JBL Pure Bass sound.
- Active Noise Cancelling:Listen to your surroundings & filter out distracting noise. Smart Ambient lets you control how much of the outside world you want to hear, so you can talk with others or stay aware of your surroundings while keeping your earbuds in
- 4 mics for crisp, clear calls: Two mics on each earbud pick up and clearly transmit your voice while canceling out ambient noise. So you can make clear, crisp calls even when you're walking through a busy park on a breezy day.
- 40 total hours of playback: Enjoy 10 hours of playtime, plus another three full charges (30Hrs) in the charging case.* Need to recharge even faster? 10 minutes on a USB type-C charging cable will give you another three hours of playtime. (*with ANC off)
- JBL Headphones app: Select the EQ that fits your style or customize your own. Voice Prompts in multiple languages give you useful information (e.g.if battery is running low). Or chill out and recharge in Relax Mode by choosing one of five peaceful sounds.
Battery life and charging
JBL rates earbud playback at up to 12 hours with ANC off or up to 10 hours with ANC on. The case is rated for up to 36 additional hours, producing a stated total maximum of 48 hours with ANC off. These are JBL’s published maximums, not independently verified results in the cited reviews. The difference between ANC-on and ANC-off earbud ratings is important if you usually keep cancellation enabled. JBL specifications
JBL also says a 10-minute USB-C charge provides up to four hours of playback, and lists Qi wireless charging. Actual runtime will depend on use and settings; the published figures should be read as manufacturer ratings. JBL specifications
