How portable is it?
JBL lists the standard speaker at 48.2 × 25.7 × 20.0 cm (19.0 × 10.1 × 7.9 in) and 6.7 kg (14.7 lb). That is manageable to move by hand for a short trip from a car to a patio, but substantial for a long walk, a crowded commute, or a small bag. Allow shelf or floor space for a speaker roughly half a metre wide, and consider where it will be stored between outings.

What do the power and sound specifications tell you?
JBL lists a three-way driver arrangement: one subwoofer, two midrange drivers, and two tweeters. Its published RMS ratings vary with power source:

JBL also publishes a 40 Hz–20 kHz dynamic frequency response range; that specification alone does not show how the speaker sounds in a room or outdoors.

JBL claims up to 24 hours of music playback and lists 6.5 hours as the charging time. “Up to” is a maximum claim, not a promise of that runtime at every volume or in every operating condition; actual use can vary. These figures are manufacturer specifications, not runtime results from an independent test.

JBL rates the standard Boombox 3 IP67 for dust and water protection. Treat that as a stated ingress-protection rating, not permission to ignore JBL’s handling guidance or a guarantee against damage in every wet or dusty situation. Check the product documentation for care instructions before exposing it to the elements.
What connections and extra functions does it offer?
- Bluetooth 5.3: wireless playback from a compatible phone, tablet, or other source.
- 3.5 mm audio input: a wired option for a source with a compatible headphone or line output.
- PartyBoost: JBL’s speaker-linking feature. The listing does not establish compatibility with every JBL speaker or multi-speaker protocol, so check the other device’s support before expecting them to link.
- Powerbank function: JBL lists the ability to use the speaker as a powerbank. The listed specification does not provide a charging-rate or device-recharge estimate.
Should you consider the newer Boombox 4?
The Boombox 4 is a newer model, but successor coverage should not be mistaken for a test of the Boombox 3. In a February 2026 review, TechRadar says the Boombox 4 adds Auracast and a user-replaceable battery. It also compares the successor’s two-way system with the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi’s three-way design; that comparison is specifically about the Wi-Fi variant and should not be generalized to the standard Bluetooth Boombox 3.
