He welcomed their concern about noise pollution, then asked whether they would raise the same objection “with the same intensity if not more” when a political party held a jalsa there.
What did Javed Akhtar say?
Akhtar posted his comment on X on Friday, October 2, 2026, as a CJP demonstration was planned at Shivaji Park. Hindustan Times reproduced the post in this wording:

“I am so happy that some residences of Shivaji park are getting sensitive about the noise pollution and asking the authorities to cancel the protest of CJP today at Shivaji park. I am hundred percent sure that they will raise the same objection with the same intensity if not more when ever there is any jalsa of any political party of Maharashtra is planned at Shivaji park,”

What was the protest about?
According to Hindustan Times, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the Mumbai protest amid allegations about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protesters were demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The outlet reported that Mumbai Police denied permission for the proposed Shivaji Park gathering, citing noise pollution, traffic congestion, disruption to movement and the need for appropriate civic permissions. Dipke then announced a “Jail Bharo Andolan.” These details are reported by Hindustan Times; the underlying police order has not been independently reviewed here. Hindustan Times.
Why did Akhtar bring up political jalsas?
A jalsa is a public gathering or rally. Akhtar’s challenge was about consistency: if residents object to the planned CJP protest because of noise, would they voice the same concern when political parties hold rallies at the same park? He did not claim that every protest and political rally produces the same noise, and the reports provide no measured sound levels for either type of event.

Why Shivaji Park is central to the dispute
Shivaji Park in Dadar has a history as a political rally venue. Free Press Journal reports that it has hosted the Shiv Sena’s annual Dussehra rally and rallies by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The same report says the Bombay High Court declared the area a silence zone in 2010 because of nearby schools, hospitals and residences. It gives the limits as 50 decibels during the day and 40 decibels at night; those figures are attributed to the report and are not an independent account of current rules or event permissions. Free Press Journal.
The venue’s history makes Akhtar’s comparison understandable, but it does not settle whether the events are equivalent in scale, duration or sound. Nor does a reported silence-zone limit alone explain which gatherings may be permitted. The available reporting does not include comparable noise measurements for the proposed protest and political rallies.
