The car commonly described as the JAS Motorsport and Pininfarina Honda NSX is now called JAS Tensei. It is JAS Motorsport’s first high-performance road car, styled with Pininfarina and derived from the first-generation Honda NSX. It is not an unmodified factory Honda, a new Honda production model, or a conventional restomod.
JAS says the project combines a carbon-fibre body with the 1990s NSX platform. Quattroruote’s October 8, 2026 launch report describes a laser-scanned original aluminium monocoque reinforced with bonded carbon structural elements, plus a newly made carbon body. Only 35 individually commissioned cars are reported, and the price, allocation status, delivery schedule, warranty and road-registration details have not been published.

What is the JAS Motorsport and Pininfarina Honda NSX?
JAS Tensei is a limited, bespoke reinterpretation of the first-generation Honda NSX rather than a factory Honda revival. JAS Motorsport announced its collaboration with Pininfarina on July 22, 2025, named the car Tensei on December 2, 2025, and revealed the definitive exterior and interior design on August 10, 2026.
JAS describes the car as inspired by the 1990s NSX, with an all-carbon-fibre body and hundreds of possible interior combinations. The company’s announcements are available in its Pininfarina project announcement, Tensei naming announcement and final-design announcement.

Quattroruote says the original NSX aluminium monocoque is laser-scanned and strengthened with bonded carbon structural elements before receiving the new carbon-fibre body. That means “based on” or “derived from” the NSX refers to the underlying architecture and design lineage; it does not mean a standard Honda chassis with cosmetic parts fitted, nor does it give the car the factory provenance of an original NSX.
JAS says its motorsport operation has recorded more than 900 race and rally wins. That is a company-reported historical figure from its July 2025 announcement, not an independently audited statistic and not evidence of Tensei road-car reliability.
How much does the JAS Tensei cost?
No price has been disclosed. Quattroruote reported the 35-car run but said the price was not revealed. The published information also does not establish a deposit, contract structure, payment schedule, tax treatment, shipping cost or whether any promotional pricing exists.

Because each car is individually commissioned, the final amount could depend on the selected exterior, interior and technical specification, but JAS has not published a pricing formula. Treat any figure circulating elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears in a written quotation or sales contract from JAS or an authorised regional representative.
Questions to put in the written quotation
- Is the amount a fixed vehicle price or a starting price before options and custom work?
- Which taxes, import duties, transport, registration engineering and delivery charges are included?
- What currency and payment milestones apply, and what happens if a build is delayed or cancelled?
- Are design changes after sign-off charged separately?
- What is the policy for deposits, refunds, resale or transferring a commission?
How many will be made?
Quattroruote reports 35 individually commissioned examples, built at JAS’s Atelier in Arluno, Italy, with customisation at Pininfarina’s Cambiano atelier. The sources do not say how many commissions have been signed, how many remain available, or whether the 35-car limit includes display and development cars.
Rarity is therefore established at the planned production-run level, but scarcity in the market is not yet measurable. Ask for the specific commission number offered to you and written confirmation that it is an authenticated production slot rather than an expression of interest or an unallocated reservation.
How can I order one?
There is no published global ordering procedure. JAS announced SPS Automotive Performance Hong Kong as its official Asian Sales Partner on November 6, 2025, stating that SPS HK would manage sales and customer service in the region. The announcement does not establish SPS as a worldwide dealer or confirm current allocations. Buyers outside Asia should confirm their territory’s contact directly with JAS.

Use this practical sequence without assuming that any step guarantees an allocation:
- Contact JAS Motorsport through its official channel. Ask whether your country is covered directly or through a named partner and request the current sales contact in writing.
- Verify the seller’s authority. For an Asian enquiry, confirm that the person and company are the representative named in JAS’s sales-partner announcement. Do not send a deposit to an intermediary whose mandate cannot be confirmed by JAS.
- Request the commission pack. It should state the production number, specification process, price, taxes, payment milestones, cancellation terms, estimated build and delivery windows, warranty and service arrangements.
- Check registration feasibility before signing. Ask for the conformity, emissions, noise, lighting and crash documentation relevant to your intended country. A hand-built car may require an individual approval route, and the available announcements do not confirm road homologation anywhere.
- Have the contract reviewed. A lawyer familiar with high-value vehicle commissions should examine title, jurisdiction, remedies for delay, insurance responsibility during construction and what happens if the programme changes.
- Confirm handover and after-sales support. Obtain the planned delivery location, inspection procedure, transport insurance, maintenance provider, parts source and response times for warranty claims.
JAS’s August 10, 2026 announcement said Unit 001 was scheduled to be shown at the Paris Motor Show from October 12 to 18, 2026. That announcement supports a planned public display; it does not by itself prove that customer deliveries have begun.
What engine and transmission does Tensei use?
The following figures come from Quattroruote’s October 8, 2026 launch report. They are publication-reported specifications, not results from an independent road test.

No published source supplies acceleration, top speed, braking distance, fuel consumption, noise certification or a tested lap time. Those figures should not be inferred from the engine output or the car’s low reported mass.

These are figures reported by Quattroruote, not independent measurements. “Dry weight” excludes items normally included in a road-ready curb-weight figure, so it should not be compared directly with a certified registration weight without knowing the measurement standard and equipment fitted.
What the wider track means for an owner
The reported 170 mm front and 190 mm rear increases over the 1990 car affect garage clearance, transport loading, tyre selection and alignment equipment. Measure your storage space and confirm the turning circle, lift points and recommended alignment settings before delivery. The sources do not provide those operating details.
How does it compare with an original first-generation NSX?
The right comparison is not “new Honda versus old Honda.” It is a bespoke, carbon-bodied reinterpretation versus an original factory sports car whose value includes its untouched specification, documented history and established service ecosystem.

There is no complete apples-to-apples value comparison in the published material, and neither car has an independent Tensei performance test to use as a benchmark.
What support exists for an original NSX alternative?
If your priority is owning an original first-generation NSX rather than a Tensei, Honda announced Honda Heritage Works, scheduled to launch in April 2026. Honda said the service would supply certain heritage parts globally and provide restoration service in Japan, initially for the first-generation NSX.
The announced restoration menu has Basic and Total levels. Honda says Total includes exterior and interior work, while some exterior and interior operations can be selected under Basic. The announcement does not say that these services apply to JAS Tensei, so do not treat Honda’s heritage programme as Tensei after-sales support.
What must a buyer verify before paying a deposit?
Allocation and contract
- Written confirmation that a numbered build slot exists and is assigned to you.
- The exact production limit and whether display, development or replacement cars count toward the 35.
- Deposit amount, refundability, cancellation rights, payment currency and buyer protection.
- Completion milestones, acceptance inspection and remedies for missed delivery dates.
Registration and insurance
- Country-specific homologation or individual-approval requirements.
- Emissions, noise, lighting, safety and tyre documentation for your intended use.
- Whether insurers will cover a one-off carbon-bodied car before and after registration.
- Agreed replacement value, storage requirements and transport coverage.
Maintenance and parts
- Who services the Judd-developed engine, manual gearbox, dampers, carbon body and electronic systems.
- Availability and lead times for bespoke body panels, suspension components, brake parts and trim.
- Recommended fluids, inspection intervals, clutch service procedure and diagnostic access.
- Warranty duration, exclusions, geographic coverage and the process for a claim.
Specification and delivery
- Final exterior colour, carbon finish, wheel and brake configuration, interior materials and seat dimensions.
- Whether the selected equipment changes the quoted dry weight or registration data.
- Paint, carbon and interior quality-control standards, with photographs and inspection rights before shipment.
- Delivery location, title documents, owner manuals and a complete build record.
None of these commercial or operational details is established by the launch announcements or the Quattroruote report. They are the questions that separate a confirmed commission from an attractive but non-binding presentation.
How should a prospective owner assess the specification?
Start by separating confirmed equipment from assumptions. The six-speed H-pattern manual, carbon twin-plate clutch and Torsen differential describe the hardware, but they do not reveal pedal weight, shift effort, clutch take-up or driveline noise. A viewing or demonstration should therefore include cold starting, low-speed manoeuvring, reverse selection and repeated clutch engagement, not just a static walk-around.

Their presence indicates adjustable control hardware, but the published material does not identify control modes, software settings, ride-height adjustment or replacement costs. Ask for the operating manual and a written parts and calibration plan. Likewise, the large Brembo discs and forged OZ wheels are specified, but tyre brands, compounds, replacement sizes and wheel protection are not.
Because the car uses a laser-scanned and reinforced monocoque with a newly made carbon body, request a build record showing the identity of the donor structure, structural inspections and the bonding process. Confirm how damage is assessed after an accident and whether carbon repairs are performed by JAS, Pininfarina or a named specialist. A carbon panel replacement may have different procedures from repairing an original NSX steel or aluminium panel, and the sources do not define that process.

What does the launch timeline tell a buyer?
The July 2025 Pininfarina announcement established the collaboration. JAS named the project Tensei in December 2025, then published the definitive design on August 10, 2026. Quattroruote’s October 8, 2026 report supplied the detailed published figures for the engine, chassis, dimensions and 35-car production plan. This sequence shows a project moving from styling announcement to named product and launch specification, but it does not establish that every commercial document is complete.
Unit 001 was announced for display at the Paris Motor Show scheduled for October 12–18, 2026. Treat a show car as an opportunity to inspect design and fit, not as proof of customer-ready specification, certification or delivery timing. Ask whether the displayed car is representative of the final configuration and whether any parts shown are development components.

Tensei makes the most sense for a buyer who values a rare, manually shifted, naturally aspirated car and is comfortable with a new low-volume manufacturer relationship. The reported 420-CV engine, 1,250-kg dry weight, carbon body and modernised chassis suggest a very different experience from preserving an original NSX exactly as Honda built it.
An original NSX is the more coherent choice if factory provenance, a documented service history, established parts channels and predictable registration matter more than bespoke specification. A Tensei buyer should be prepared to perform significantly more due diligence because price, availability, homologation, warranty, maintenance cost and independent road performance are not yet published.
