Japanese smartwatches range from full Wear OS app watches to fitness trackers and GPS timepieces. Those categories do different jobs: phone notifications and activity tracking do not automatically mean you can install a broad range of apps, and GPS timekeeping alone does not make a watch an app smartwatch. These five picks include both current connected-watch options and older Wear OS models; the legacy watches are clearly labeled because their support and availability need extra checking.
How to read this list
Casio’s G-SQUAD lineup includes several connected fitness families, but a lineup page does not establish that each is a full smartwatch with a general app ecosystem. The DW-H5600 and GM-H5600 are best understood as phone-connected fitness watches. The GSW-H1000 and PRO TREK Smart models are legacy Wear OS watches. Seiko Astron is included for GPS-based timekeeping, not app support.

Casio’s official G-SQUAD overview lists the GBD-300, DW-H5600, GBD-H2000, GBD-200, and GBD-100 families, while highlighting GPS and six-sensor capability for the GBD-H2000. That overview does not establish current stock or complete feature details for every model. See Casio’s G-SQUAD lineup.

1. G-SHOCK G-SQUAD DW-H5600: the clearest connected-fitness pick
The DW-H5600 combines the recognizable square G-SHOCK design with optical heart-rate measurement, activity tracking, training analysis, sleep data, and phone notifications. Casio describes smartphone linkage and solar-powered variants. It suits someone who wants workout and health-related functions in a tough-looking connected watch, rather than a wrist-sized extension of an app store.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Casio’s page lists the model’s specific functions and variants; check the exact reference and regional product page for the version you are considering. DW-H5600 details from G-SHOCK.
2. G-SHOCK G-SQUAD GM-H5600: a more metal-forward take
The GM-H5600 retains the DW-H5600 feature set but changes the presentation. Casio specifies a stainless-steel bezel, carbon-fiber-reinforced case back, high-definition MIP display, and both USB and solar charging. It is the natural alternative if those materials and the display matter more to you than finding a different software platform.

3. G-SHOCK G-SQUAD PRO GSW-H1000: a discontinued Wear OS option
The GSW-H1000 is the list’s clearest example of a Japanese full smartwatch: Casio identifies it as the first G-SQUAD model using Wear OS. However, Casio marks it discontinued, so it is a legacy purchase rather than a straightforward current recommendation. The official product page is useful for identifying the watch and its original capabilities, but does not establish present retail availability. Casio’s GSW-H1000 product page.

There is also a material setup caveat. Casio’s support page says Wear OS app distribution through Google Play ended on November 1, 2025, and provides an alternate download route for Android users. The page notes that some support instructions still refer to Google Play. Before buying or resetting a used unit, read the current instructions and confirm that the required setup works for your phone and region; do not assume the process is seamless. 4. PRO TREK Smart WSD-F30: a legacy outdoor smartwatch
The WSD-F30 belongs to Casio’s older PRO TREK Smart Wear OS family. Casio’s motion-sensor compatibility FAQ also names the WSD-F21HR and WSD-F20. That is evidence of model-family compatibility with the stated motion sensor, not proof that today’s apps, services, or every watch function remain available. Treat the WSD-F30 as a used or remaining-stock legacy device, and verify its condition, phone compatibility, and the specific functions you need before purchasing.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors5. Seiko Astron: GPS timekeeping, not a phone-app watch
Astron belongs on a Japanese connected-watch shortlist for a different reason: Seiko’s lineup covers GPS Solar and solar-radio-controlled watches. Those are timekeeping capabilities, not evidence of a general-purpose smartwatch app store. Choose Astron if you want a GPS-based timepiece rather than workout tracking or Wear OS apps. Which one should you choose?
- For connected workouts and everyday notifications: start with the DW-H5600; its documented features make its category and use case the clearest.
- For similar fitness functions with metal accents: consider the GM-H5600 for its bezel, MIP display, and dual USB/solar charging.
- For Wear OS apps: understand that the GSW-H1000 is discontinued and its app distribution changed; investigate the setup route before committing to a used unit.
- For outdoor use in a legacy Wear OS format: the WSD-F30 is an older option, but the cited compatibility information does not guarantee current app support.
- For GPS timekeeping without an app-watch premise: look at the Seiko Astron lineup.
- If considering another G-SQUAD model: the GBD-H2000 is a lineup candidate with GPS and six-sensor capability highlighted by Casio, but consult its model-specific and regional information rather than inferring every feature from the family overview.
Check these details before buying
Official product and support pages establish model names and broad capabilities, but they do not establish current price, stock, or region-specific support for every watch. Confirm the exact model number, local availability, phone operating-system compatibility, and functions that matter to you. For discontinued Wear OS models, pay particular attention to app installation and setup instructions; for fitness watches, distinguish phone-connected features from a full app platform.
