The bigger change is in the Super Mario line’s format: LEGO has announced a refreshed range with minifigures planned for 2027, following the interactive Super Mario experience that began in 2020.
Are Nintendo LEGO sets being discontinued?
Some are marked for retirement, but there is no evidence that Nintendo LEGO as a whole is ending. LEGO’s indexed US Super Mario catalog showed multiple products with a “Retiring soon” label, and LEGO UK’s Mario Kart coverage also identified selected products that way. Catalog status and stock can differ by market and change over time, so these labels are not a worldwide, permanent retirement list.

“Retiring soon” also does not mean a set is already sold out or establish a universal final date to buy it. Check the LEGO shop for your country for the item’s current status.
Which Nintendo LEGO sets were reported as retiring in 2026?
The available lists are dated snapshots, not a certified complete roster. On May 17, 2026, Nintendo Life reported that LEGO’s “last change to buy” retirement page included items across Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing. Examples named in that report included:

In September 2026, Nintendo Life reported further 2026 retirements, with attention to Animal Crossing and Mario Kart products. Neither report establishes every affected set, every country’s availability, or a universal last-sale date. For the latest status, use LEGO’s catalog for your region rather than treating a past report as a live inventory list.
What is changing in LEGO Super Mario?
On August 26, 2026, LEGO announced a refreshed Super Mario range featuring LEGO minifigures, with sets planned for 2027. LEGO described the new direction as centered on creative minifigure roleplay. The announcement marks a shift in the line’s play format, not an announcement that the LEGO–Nintendo license is ending or that every interactive set is being discontinued.

| Format | What is established | Availability evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Interactive Super Mario figures | LEGO says the first interactive LEGO Super Mario building experiences launched in 2020. | Some products appeared with “Retiring soon” labels in LEGO catalog listings; status varies by product and market. |
| Super Mario minifigures | LEGO announced a refreshed range featuring minifigures, planned for 2027. | Future sets were announced, but the announcement does not provide exact release dates. |
2026 releases show the range was still expanding
Nintendo’s March 10, 2026 announcement said LEGO Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 (set 72055) became available April 1, 2026 at LEGO.com and LEGO Stores. Nintendo listed 2,234 pieces and described a posable Luigi figure, buildable kart, display stand, steering, and rolling features. Those are announcement details, not independent review findings; the announcement is not evidence that this particular set is retiring.
How to check a set’s status before buying
- Open the LEGO online shop for your country and search the exact set name or number.
- Read the item’s current listing and availability label. A retirement label does not guarantee stock or specify a final purchase date.
- If the product is not listed, do not assume it is available elsewhere or that it has the same status in another country; verify the seller, item number, and current stock independently.
For example, LEGO’s US and UK pages have shown retirement information for selected items, but their catalogs need not match. A set named in an older report may no longer appear in a current listing.

- Buildable pipe – Place the Piranha Plant in the brick-built pipe. The set also includes 2 coins

Why it feels like an era is ending
The original Super Mario LEGO experience made an interactive figure central to building and play; LEGO’s announced 2027 range instead puts minifigures at the center of its refreshed format. With selected existing sets also appearing on retirement lists, the transition can look like a clear ending. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: some products are being retired while a new format is planned, and the partnership itself has not been announced as over.
