LEGO identifies Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots, set 72423, as an adult display model. Its 1,403 pieces form two brick-built characters, Shrek and Donkey, plus a Puss in Boots minifigure on a swamp base. LEGO gives the set an 18+ age rating and lists 2026 on its building-instructions page.

LEGO describes the finished model as over 9.5 inches (24 cm) high, 8.5 inches (21 cm) wide and 6 inches (16 cm) deep—useful measurements if you are planning shelf space.

The swamp base is more than a platform. LEGO lists a Beware Ogre sign, sunflowers, an onion, and a blue flower with red thorns among its details, alongside hidden details in Shrek’s stomach. The onion is an especially fitting little find for a scene built around Shrek’s world: it rewards a closer look without changing the set’s overall purpose as a display piece.

In her GamesRadar+ review, published October 2, 2026, Tabitha Baker praises the movie references, surface texture, and inventive use of pieces. She also singles out the hidden onion, the blue flower with red thorns, and printed details on the signpost. Her account describes the gradual payoff of completing the bags and seeing those touches emerge; it is a reviewer’s assessment rather than a guaranteed experience for every builder.
What the characters can do once it is built
LEGO says Shrek’s head, arms, hands, and fingers move. Donkey’s head rotates, and its mouth, ears, and tail are movable too. That gives the figures some adjustability for display, but the set is not described as an elaborate poseable action model.

Baker’s review is more qualified about the character presentation. She finds Donkey a little too slim, and considers Puss’s bright coloring and minifigure scale less convincing alongside the larger brick-built characters. Those are subjective design judgments, but they matter if your main buying priority is matching the three characters’ proportions and visual scale.

Build time and stability: what one review found
Baker reports spending four to five hours across two evenings on the review set. GamesRadar+ says the review kit was supplied by the manufacturer, and the reviewer tracked stumbling blocks while examining durability and stability. The time is a personal report, not a LEGO estimate, and another builder’s pace may differ.

On stability, the review says Shrek and Donkey feel secure when placed, but the diorama can wobble when moved. That distinction is practical: it may sit comfortably as a shelf display, while carrying or repositioning the assembled model calls for care. The review does not establish how every copy or build will behave.

The case for buying it is strongest if you want a Shrek display model rather than a play-focused set: it combines recognizable characters, a themed swamp base, small film references, and the onion discovery. The official US page’s $129.99 listing provides a current-price reference only as of its 2026 access date; confirm the live price before deciding.

Consider skipping it if you want all three characters built at comparable scale, expect extensive posing, or plan to move the assembled scene often. Baker’s noted concerns about Puss’s scale and the wobble when the display is moved are particularly relevant to those expectations. There is no basis here for ranking its value against other LEGO sets; the decision turns on whether its display details and character lineup suit what you want.
