Usually, no—not as a general-purpose investment. Zoroark is a niche Pokémon GO PvP pick with high offensive pressure but very low durability. The current open-league snapshots place it at rank 660 of 1,143 eligible Pokémon in Great League and rank 555 of 841 in Ultra League. Those are weak positions, although rankings are estimates that change as move pools, team usage and simulator algorithms change. Build Zoroark if you specifically want its playstyle or need its particular coverage; do not spend scarce Stardust and Candy expecting a reliable meta staple.
The practical decision is specimen-specific. You must choose a Zoroark that fits the league’s CP limit, verify its current moves, and calculate power-up costs from its present level. The often-quoted 75,000 Stardust figure covers only the second charged move, not a complete build.

What Zoroark currently offers in PvP
Zoroark’s value comes from fast offensive pressure and unusual charged-move coverage, not from staying power. PvPoke’s displayed Ultra League example has 202.6 Attack, 113.2 Defense and 134 Stamina, and the simulator labels the profile a “Glass Cannon.” Pokémon GO Hub’s October 9 analysis likewise identifies Zoroark’s bulk as a central problem. In practice, Zoroark can punish a favorable alignment quickly, but it has little room for a resisted hit, a lost shield battle or a delayed switch.

A rank is not a win percentage and does not predict every matchup. It is a comparative estimate for a particular ruleset and simulator configuration. A lower-ranked Pokémon can still make sense in a themed team, a limited cup, or a lineup that specifically needs its coverage.

Why Zoroark’s attack comes with a real durability cost
Pressure when Zoroark has the advantage
High Attack lets Zoroark threaten meaningful damage before an opponent can comfortably farm energy. Foul Play gives it a dependable Dark-type charged attack, while Sludge Bomb can punish opponents that expect only Dark damage. Flamethrower and Night Shade broaden the possible Ultra League configurations listed by PvPoke.
What the “glass cannon” label means in a battle
- A neutral charged move can remove a large portion of Zoroark’s health.
- Switching Zoroark into damage is risky unless you have a clear resistance or shield plan.
- It is less forgiving when you lose a lead, mis-time a move or spend a shield on the wrong turn.
- Its best games generally involve alignment, shield pressure and reaching charged attacks before the opponent can exploit its low Defense and Stamina.
This is why a favorable simulation result should not be read as a guarantee. Your team’s safe switch, shield economy and opponent’s move timing can matter more than Zoroark’s nominal ranking.
Great League: a specialist project, not a default build
What the current snapshot says
Pokémon GO Hub’s guide places Zoroark at rank 660 out of 1,143 eligible Pokémon in Great League. That position makes it a fringe choice in the open format. The same guide recommends Foul Play plus Sludge Bomb and gives a 1/15/15 specimen at level 21.5 and 1,496 CP as its best-IV example.

Do not evolve the first Zorua you catch and power it automatically. Compare candidates in a league calculator, then confirm the resulting Zoroark’s CP after evolution. The familiar low-Attack, high-Defense, high-Stamina pattern is only a starting point; the best candidate depends on the exact CP cap and move set used by the current simulator. A specimen that looks ideal by IV percentage can still be less useful if it misses a breakpoint, bulkpoint or preferred CP target.

When Great League Zoroark can make sense
- You enjoy aggressive, high-risk games and already have sturdier answers for Zoroark’s poor defensive profile.
- Your team needs Dark- and Poison-type charged-move pressure in a format or cup where those attacks are unusually valuable.
- You have a low-cost specimen close to the recommended level and can build it without delaying a stronger core Pokémon.
If those conditions do not apply, Great League resources are generally better reserved for Pokémon with stronger open-league rankings or more forgiving matchups.
Ultra League: more room to use it, but still a niche pick
What the current snapshot says
The same Pokémon GO Hub guide ranks Zoroark 555th of 841 eligible Pokémon in Ultra League. PvPoke’s current Ultra League page displays a 1/15/15 example at level 42 and 2,497 CP without Candy XL. The page lists Foul Play, Night Shade, Flamethrower and Sludge Bomb among the charged options.
Why Ultra League may be the more practical target
Ultra League permits substantially more investment than Great League, so a level-appropriate specimen can reach a higher total stat product while remaining under the 2,500 CP limit. That does not remove Zoroark’s bulk problem, but it can make the Pokémon feel less constrained than a low-level Great League build. The displayed PvPoke example is specifically a snapshot, not a universal requirement: another IV spread, starting level or current move configuration can change the best answer.
Checks before spending Candy XL
- Confirm whether your candidate reaches the target CP without Candy XL. The displayed rank-1 example does not require Candy XL.
- Run the exact IVs and moves through the live Ultra League simulator, because rankings and move availability can change.
- Compare the Candy XL opportunity cost with the rest of your Ultra League roster. A glass cannon that needs extensive leveling should be a deliberate choice, not an impulse build.
Moves: the standard options and the Sucker Punch complication
Charged moves
| Move | Where it appears in the current guidance | Practical role |
|---|---|---|
| Foul Play | Recommended for Great League; listed for Ultra League | Core Dark-type pressure and the most consistently cited charged option |
| Sludge Bomb | Recommended for Great League; listed for Ultra League | Coverage against targets that do not handle Poison damage well |
| Night Shade | Listed on PvPoke’s Ultra League page | An alternative charged-move option whose value depends on the current battle format and simulator results |
| Flamethrower | Listed on PvPoke’s Ultra League page | Fire coverage that can change specific matchup calculations |
Move selection should follow the team you are building, not a universal “best” label. Run the exact moves against the opponents you expect to face and check whether the second move creates meaningful shield or matchup gains.

How Sucker Punch fits in
Niantic’s October 2026 Community Day announcement stated that evolving Zorua during the October 10 event or within four hours afterward awarded a Zoroark with Sucker Punch. That event window has ended. The announcement does not establish a permanent ordinary-TM route.
PvPoke’s live Ultra League page lists Shadow Claw and Snarl in addition to Sucker Punch and identifies Sucker Punch as event- or Elite-TM-exclusive on the displayed page. Because event move access can change, check Zoroark’s current in-game move pool and the live simulator before using an Elite Charged or Fast TM. Do not assume a newly evolved Zoroark can learn Sucker Punch through a regular TM.
How much Stardust and Candy does a Zoroark build need?
The confirmed Stardust figure
PvPoke lists 75,000 Stardust to unlock Zoroark’s second charged move. That is one fixed component of the project. It is not the total Stardust needed to evolve and power up a Zoroark.

|---|---|---|
| Second charged move | 75,000 Stardust on PvPoke’s current Ultra League page | The charged move unlock price shown for that Pokémon |
| Power-ups | No universal total is established | The specimen’s current level, target CP, number of power-ups and whether Candy XL is required |
| Evolution Candy | Niantic confirms that catching a species awards that species’ Candy and that some evolutions also require an item | The evolution requirement shown in your game for Zorua and Zoroark |
| Candy XL | The displayed Ultra League example uses no Candy XL | Your specimen’s level, IVs and target CP |
To budget accurately, inspect the individual Zorua in Pokémon GO, note its current level and evolution requirement, then use the in-game power-up screen for the remaining Stardust and Candy. A low-level catch and a near-target specimen can have dramatically different totals even if both evolve into the same species.

What the October Community Day bonuses changed
The October 10, 2026 Community Day offered double catch Candy and doubled the chance for Trainers at level 31 or above to receive Candy XL from catches. Those were temporary event bonuses, not a permanent reduction in Zoroark’s cost. The event has ended, so future Candy farming should be planned around whatever bonuses are currently active.

- Define the target league. Decide whether you are building for the 1,500-CP Great League cap, the 2,500-CP Ultra League cap or a specific limited cup.
- Collect candidates. Keep several Zorua rather than evolving the first one. Record IVs, current CP and appraisal information.
- Check the live ranking and move pool. Use a current league simulator immediately before spending resources; rankings and event move availability are not permanent.
- Simulate the exact specimen. Enter its IVs, level, CP and candidate fast and charged moves. Test both shield scenarios and common lead, switch and closer roles.
- Confirm evolution results. Evolution changes CP and can alter the level you need to reach the league cap. Recheck the evolved Zoroark, not only the pre-evolution.
- Unlock the second charged move only after testing. The 75,000-Stardust price is substantial. Make sure the second move changes the matchups your team actually faces.
- Power up in small steps. Stop at the legal CP limit and recheck the battle simulations after each meaningful level increase.
- Test the team in battles. Zoroark’s value depends heavily on alignment and shield timing. A few practice sets can reveal whether its fragility fits your playstyle.
How to decide between Zoroark and another investment
Compare candidates on more than rank. A useful decision uses six questions:
- Role: Does your team need a fast offensive closer, a Dark-type attacker or Poison and Fire coverage?
- Matchups: Which specific opponents does Zoroark improve, and which common threats become worse when it occupies a team slot?
- Durability: Can your other two Pokémon absorb pressure while Zoroark waits for a favorable alignment?
- Specimen fit: Does the candidate reach the target CP at a sensible level and resource cost?
- Move access: Can you obtain the moves you want now, or would the build depend on an event move or Elite TM?
- Opportunity cost: Would the same Stardust, Candy and possible Candy XL finish a stronger open-league Pokémon?
A lower-ranked Pokémon can be correct when it solves a team problem that a higher-ranked option does not. Conversely, a high Attack stat is not by itself a reason to build Zoroark if your roster already has fragile attackers and lacks a safe switch.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Treating 75,000 Stardust as the complete cost
The second charged move is only one line item. Evolution, power-ups and possible Candy XL can add substantially more resources. Calculate from your actual specimen.
Best Value
Assuming the Community Day move is still automatic
The guaranteed Sucker Punch window was tied to October 10, 2026 and the following four hours. That window is over. Verify current access before evolving or spending an Elite TM.
Building from a high-CP catch without checking league fit
A high CP does not automatically mean a good Great or Ultra League specimen. Evolution and power-ups can push it over the cap, while its IV distribution may be poor for the intended league.
Reading rankings as guarantees
Ranks are snapshots of estimated performance. They do not promise a win, account for your exact team or replace testing against the current move and opponent pool.
Bottom-line decision
Build Zoroark when you deliberately want a fragile, high-pressure specialist, have a league-appropriate specimen and can afford the resources without delaying a stronger core investment. For most players choosing where to spend limited Stardust, its current Great and Ultra League rankings make it a lower priority. Verify the live rankings, exact CP, current move availability and full specimen-specific cost immediately before committing.
