Zoroark can deal useful damage to raid bosses that are weak to Dark, yet it is not a leading attacker worth heavy investment when stronger options are available. Pokémon GO Hub’s current Dark-attacker comparison places Zoroark at #39 and identifies its limited bulk as a major raid drawback.
Run Snarl with Foul Play when you use Zoroark for raids. Treat it as a roster filler, a practical choice for a newer player, or a backup attacker for a large team—not as the centerpiece of a carefully optimized raid squad.

What role does Zoroark fill in raids?
Zoroark’s useful raid role is straightforward: it supplies Dark-type damage against bosses that take super-effective damage from Dark attacks. Its 250 Attack gives it respectable offensive pressure, but its 127 Defense and 155 HP leave it much less durable than the strongest Dark attackers. In a raid, that combination means Zoroark can contribute quickly and then faint sooner than bulkier choices.

A player who already has several powerful Dark attackers will usually gain more from powering up those Pokémon first. A newer player with an incomplete roster may still get real value from a ready-to-use Zoroark, especially when the raid boss has a clear Dark weakness and the alternative counters are unavailable or underpowered.

Pokémon GO Hub’s ranking is a useful benchmark rather than a permanent in-game law. The page places Zoroark at #39 among Dark attackers, and rankings can change when Pokémon, moves, raid parameters or battle systems are updated. The comparison also excludes Mega and Shadow attackers, so it should not be interpreted as the complete ceiling for Dark-type raid damage.

The type chart must be considered together with the boss’s actual moves. A Psychic-type raid boss that carries Fighting coverage can be a worse Zoroark matchup than its headline typing suggests. Conversely, a boss that is weak to Dark but uses resisted Psychic attacks may allow Zoroark to stay active long enough to deliver useful damage.
Best Zoroark moveset for raids
Use Snarl and Foul Play
The recommended raid moveset is Snarl as the Fast Attack and Foul Play as the charged attack. Snarl is preferred over the legacy Fast Attack Sucker Punch for raids, and Foul Play gives Zoroark the Dark-type charged damage needed for its intended role.

These figures come from Pokémon GO Hub’s neutral dummy-boss simulation, accessed in 2026. The benchmark ignores type matchups, so 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO are not fixed results for every real raid. Weather, the boss’s typing, the boss’s moves, dodge behavior, party size and battle timing can all change the damage Zoroark actually contributes.
Why Shadow Claw is not the default raid choice
Shadow Claw can be useful for a Ghost-oriented role, but the cited neutral comparison places Shadow Claw/Foul Play behind Snarl/Foul Play for Zoroark. If your goal is Dark-type raid damage, Snarl is the more appropriate Fast Attack. Selecting Shadow Claw solely because it is a Ghost-type move changes the type of damage you are emphasizing and may leave you with a less effective general-purpose Dark attacker.

Why raid and Trainer Battle advice cannot be mixed
The Pokémon Company explains that attacks work differently in Trainer Battles than in other battle types, including raids. Niantic has also described separate raid and Gym changes affecting attack damage output, energy generation and attack duration. As a result, a PvP ranking, PvP energy calculation or PvP recommendation is not automatically a raid recommendation.

For Zoroark, that distinction matters because its low bulk makes timing and damage output especially important. Use raid-specific moveset analysis when choosing its attacks, then evaluate the chosen moves against the individual boss rather than assuming a neutral ranking predicts the battle exactly.
When is Zoroark a good raid choice?
Use it against a genuine Dark weakness
Start with the raid boss, not with Zoroark. Check whether Dark is super effective against the boss and whether another type can exploit the same weakness with greater damage or survivability. A Dark attacker is only useful when the target gives Dark a meaningful matchup advantage.
Check the boss’s moveset
Because Zoroark is weak to Bug, Fairy and Fighting, a boss that repeatedly uses one of those attack types can remove Zoroark quickly. If the boss uses Psychic, Dark or Ghost attacks, Zoroark’s resistances can improve its time on the field. The boss’s charged moves can matter as much as its species or headline type.
Compare damage with relobby cost
A fast attacker that faints often can force your group to relobby. That interruption costs time and may reduce the practical value of its theoretical damage. Zoroark is more attractive when you can field several attackers, have enough time remaining on the raid clock, and can replace it without losing the attempt.

Use it when it is already built
Availability and investment are legitimate parts of a raid decision. A Zoroark you already have powered up may be more useful today than a theoretically stronger counter that you do not own, cannot evolve, or cannot afford to power up. That is a roster-management decision, not evidence that Zoroark outperforms the stronger species.
Place it where its strengths matter
For a mixed team, put Zoroark alongside sturdier Dark attackers rather than relying on six fragile copies. It can provide an additional attacker after a stronger lead faints, or fill the final slots when you need more Dark-type damage. If the raid boss’s moves are especially dangerous to Zoroark, move it down the lineup or replace it with a more durable counter.
Step-by-step: deciding whether to power up a Zoroark
- Identify the boss’s weaknesses. Confirm that Dark is actually super effective. If Dark is neutral or resisted, Zoroark’s intended raid role is not present.
- Inspect the boss’s attacks. Look for Bug, Fairy or Fighting coverage that can exploit Zoroark, and note whether Psychic, Dark or Ghost attacks give it a resistance advantage.
- Set the raid moveset. Use Snarl and Foul Play for the Dark role. Do not substitute a Trainer Battle recommendation without checking raid-specific values.
- Compare your available counters. Put Zoroark beside Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark and any available Mega or Shadow options. Consider what is actually powered up, not only what is strongest on paper.
- Estimate fainting risk. Zoroark’s 127 Defense and 155 HP indicate limited bulk. If the boss can exploit its weaknesses, expect more frequent knockouts and possible relobbies.
- Test the team’s practical value. In a large group, a budget attacker may be sufficient. In a small group or a short-time challenge, prioritize the strongest counters that match the boss’s weakness and can stay alive.
- Spend resources last. Power up Zoroark when it fills a real roster gap. Do not divert scarce resources from stronger counters solely to chase a neutral benchmark number.
Which Pokémon are better than Zoroark for Dark raids?
Pokémon GO Hub names Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark as stronger Dark attackers in its comparison. Official raid guidance also uses Tyranitar and Houndoom as examples of Dark-type damage. These names are useful alternatives, but none is universally best for every raid: the boss’s weakness, moveset, weather and your available roster still determine the practical choice.

Ghost alternatives deserve separate consideration. Gengar and Chandelure may exploit a boss weakness that Dark does not, or may perform better in a particular weather or moveset situation. They should not be described as automatically better than Zoroark for every target; they are alternatives when the boss’s type chart favors Ghost or when your Ghost roster is stronger.
How Mega and Shadow attackers change the comparison
The cited Pokémon GO Hub ranking compares standard attackers and explicitly excludes Mega and Shadow attackers. That exclusion matters because Mega and Shadow forms can raise the practical damage ceiling when they are available and properly powered up. Do not read the Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark comparison as a complete list of every possible Dark attacker.
For a real team decision, compare Zoroark with the Mega or Shadow Pokémon available to you, then account for the number of trainers in the lobby and the raid’s time limit. A stronger form that you do not own is not an immediate counter, while a prepared Zoroark may still help finish a large team.

Common Zoroark raid mistakes
Calling it a top-tier attacker
Zoroark’s 250 Attack does not erase its 127 Defense and 155 HP. Its #39 Dark-attacker placement and low-bulk drawback make “budget attacker” a more accurate description than “best-in-class counter.”

Using the neutral benchmark as a guaranteed result
The 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO values come from a neutral dummy-boss simulation. They are comparison figures, not promises for a particular raid. Type effectiveness, weather, boss attacks and battle conditions can change the result.
Ignoring the boss’s coverage
A boss that is weak to Dark can still punish Zoroark with Fighting, Fairy or Bug attacks. Check the complete moveset before committing a fragile attacker to a small-group attempt.
Mixing PvP and raid moveset advice
Attack damage, energy generation and durations can differ between Trainer Battles and raids. Use Snarl and Foul Play for the cited Dark raid role, but verify raid-specific information when game updates change move behavior.
Powering it up before checking alternatives
First compare your ready Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, Houndoom and relevant Mega or Shadow options. Zoroark earns investment when it fills a roster gap, not simply because it can learn Dark-type attacks.
Practical team-building examples
Large lobby with an incomplete roster
If many players are present and you have few developed Dark attackers, a Snarl/Foul Play Zoroark can be a sensible addition. Its job is to contribute Dark damage until it faints, after which your next counters continue the battle. The low bulk is less damaging to the overall attempt when the lobby has substantial spare time and damage.
Small lobby against a Dark-weak boss
In a small group, survivability and sustained damage become more important. Start with your strongest suitable Dark or Ghost attackers, especially any available Mega or Shadow forms, and use Zoroark only if it improves the team after accounting for likely relobbies.
Boss with Fighting coverage
If the boss’s charged attacks are Fighting-type and land frequently, Zoroark’s weakness can turn its high Attack into short-lived damage. A bulkier attacker or a counter that resists the boss’s actual moves may be the safer choice even if a neutral simulator ranks Zoroark’s raw damage favorably.
Boss that favors Ghost instead of Dark
When Ghost is the more reliable super-effective type, Gengar or Chandelure may be more appropriate examples from official raid guidance. Zoroark should remain a Dark option for Dark-favorable matchups, not a default answer to every Psychic- or Ghost-related raid.

What can change Zoroark’s raid value?
Raid bosses and their moves rotate, and Pokémon GO’s battle parameters can be updated. A ranking or simulator page accessed in 2026 can therefore change after a move rebalance, a new form, a new attacker or a raid-system update. Recheck the boss’s current weakness and moveset before each important attempt.
The most stable conclusion is about Zoroark’s role, not a permanent numerical position: it is a usable, fragile Dark attacker with a Snarl/Foul Play recommendation, but stronger choices normally deserve priority when they are available and powered up.
