It can be—but only if the subscription costs less than the games and benefits you would actually use during the month. A big catalog is not automatically good value: compare the price of the Game Pass tier that includes your games with their individual purchase prices, then account for access limits and renewal timing.
How to decide whether Game Pass is worth it for you
- Pick the games you expect to play. Check that each one is currently in the library for your plan, platform, and region.
- Compare the costs. Add the purchase prices of those games and compare that total with one month of the tier you need. If you would buy just one game, compare its price directly with the subscription cost.
- Count only benefits you would otherwise pay for or use. Online console multiplayer, EA Play, cloud gaming, and other bundled features can matter, but only when your plan and region include them and they fit how you play.
- Consider your timing. Estimate whether you can play the games during the paid period, and check whether a title may leave the library before you finish it.
- Decide what happens at renewal. If you only need one month, plan to turn off recurring billing before the next billing date.
There is no universal number of games per month that makes Game Pass worthwhile. The answer depends on the specific games, their purchase prices, your plan, and whether you use its other benefits.

Choose the tier that includes what you need
Xbox’s official overview lists four plans and displayed catalog sizes. Those counts and features vary over time, by region, plan, and platform; they do not guarantee that a particular game is available to you. Check the current catalog for the games you have in mind.
| Plan | Xbox’s displayed library count | Notable listed benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games | Online console multiplayer and in-game benefits; no new releases on day one. |
| Premium | 200+ games | Xbox-published games join the library within one year of launch, with stated exceptions. |
| Ultimate | 500+ games | Day-one releases and additional bundled features; access across console, PC, and supported devices. |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ PC games | Day-one titles and EA Play. |
These plan descriptions are from Xbox’s official Game Pass overview. In particular, cloud gaming depends on device, region, and plan; Xbox says it is not included with PC Game Pass. Choose based on the features you need, not the largest advertised catalog.

US prices are a snapshot, not a global or permanent rate
On its US comparison page when checked in 2026, Xbox displayed Ultimate at $22.99 per month and Premium at $14.99 per month after a limited introductory offer of 14 days for $1. The offer may be limited to eligible subscribers or markets, and prices can change. Check the live Xbox plan comparison page for your region before deciding. These are observed US page values, not universal prices.
Remember that subscription access is temporary
A Game Pass subscription does not make its library games permanently yours. Xbox says you can access them while your subscription is active and while each game remains in the library. If you are playing slowly, consider whether you would rather buy a game you want to keep playing after a subscription ends or after it leaves the catalog. Xbox’s overview of Game Pass describes access and catalog terms.

Control recurring billing if you only want a short subscription
Xbox says recurring billing is on by default. If you intend to subscribe for just one month, turn it off before the next billing date through your Microsoft account or console. Xbox’s US overview also describes a possible one-time refund for a recent recurring charge, subject to requesting it within 30 days after payment and other terms; it is not a guarantee that every cancellation will be refunded. See the official plan page for current billing and cancellation details.
