Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is worth buying if you want a dark Seattle vampire mystery with political choices and action combat. It is a less certain purchase for anyone expecting the original 2004 game’s unusually broad role-playing freedom and open-ended structure. Start with Standard unless you specifically want the Deluxe cosmetics or have confirmed that Premium’s story expansions are available and appealing at the current price.
The short answer: buy it for the new experience, not for a mechanical remake of the original
Bloodlines 2 is an action RPG and a sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. It launched on October 21, 2025, and is already available rather than an upcoming release. You play Phyre, an elder vampire who awakens after torpor in Seattle. Fabien, a Malkavian detective, becomes an important guide and complication in the story. Some chapters let you play as Fabien in 1920s Seattle while investigating his murder.

The purchase decision turns on expectations. If your priority is a stylish vampire story, faction politics, investigation and direct combat, the game has a clear appeal. If you mainly want the original’s dense character systems, unrestricted quest solutions and feeling that almost every social or supernatural choice can reshape a situation, approach it more cautiously. PC Gamer’s launch review described it as “good, sometimes even great,” but also argued that it “never really enthusiastically embraces being an RPG.” That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal review consensus, but it captures the central trade-off.

What Bloodlines 2 is and how its story is structured
Phyre, an elder vampire in modern Seattle
Phyre returns from torpor to a Seattle shaped by vampire politics and competing interests. The elder-vampire premise gives the protagonist a strong identity from the beginning, rather than starting as a newly turned character with no established history. Your clan affects available Disciplines, outfits and playstyle, while dialogue and investigation determine how you navigate the city’s conflicts.
#1 Best Overall
Fabien’s Malkavian investigation
Fabien is not merely a supporting character. The publisher describes sections in which you awaken as Fabien in 1920s Seattle and investigate his murder. This dual-period structure adds a detective thread to Phyre’s present-day story and gives the campaign a different perspective from a straightforward citywide action adventure.
Six clans for Phyre
At launch, Phyre can belong to Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador or Lasombra. Paradox says each clan has distinct playstyles, outfits and Disciplines. Choose based on the kind of vampire you want to play rather than treating the selection as a cosmetic label: the clan is intended to shape how abilities and encounters feel.
- Brujah: suited to players who want a more direct, aggressive approach.
- Tremere: for players attracted to blood sorcery and a more supernatural toolkit.
- Banu Haqim: a choice for an assassin-oriented vampire fantasy.
- Ventrue: appropriate if you prefer authority, control and a commanding presence.
- Toreador: aimed at a character fantasy built around refinement and social influence.
- Lasombra: offers another distinct supernatural and political identity within the setting.
The exact tactical value of a clan matters less than the larger expectation: Bloodlines 2 uses clan identity to differentiate play, but it is still built as an action RPG rather than a tabletop campaign simulator.

| Standard | $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 | Base game | Most players, especially first-time buyers |
| Deluxe | $69.99 / £58.50 / €69.99 | Base game plus Santa Monica Memories cosmetic pack for Phyre’s apartment | Fans who value the apartment decorations and original-game-inspired presentation |
| Premium | $89.99 / £74.99 / €89.99 | Base game plus the Expansion Pass: Santa Monica Memories, Loose Cannon and The Flower & the Flame | Players who have checked the current expansion status and want both story packs |
Standard is the safest starting point
Standard gives you the complete base campaign and avoids paying for content you may not use. It is the sensible choice if you are unsure whether Bloodlines 2’s action-oriented design will suit you, if you normally buy expansions separately, or if the live price difference between editions is large.
Deluxe is a cosmetic decision
Deluxe adds Santa Monica Memories, a decor pack inspired by the original game for Phyre’s apartment. It does not add a second campaign or a new clan. Buy it because you want those decorations, not because you expect a deeper role-playing system or additional missions.
Premium depends on the Expansion Pass
Premium is only compelling when the two story packs justify the additional cost. The Expansion Pass is listed as including Loose Cannon, which follows Brujah Sheriff Benny, and The Flower & the Flame, which follows Toreador Primogen Ysabella. Before paying for Premium, compare its live price with Standard plus the separately listed add-ons and confirm that both packs are available for your platform.

Prices and sales: how to check the real value today
The US PlayStation listing captured for this guide displayed all three editions and a $29.99 Standard-edition sale that ended on October 8, 2026. That promotion is expired and should not be treated as the current price. Store pages can change by region and can show different discounts on PC and console.

- Open the store for the platform you will actually use.
- Record the current price for Standard, Deluxe and Premium in your local currency, including any taxes shown at checkout.
- Check the individual prices and release status of the Expansion Pass packs.
- Compare Standard plus the add-ons you genuinely want against Premium rather than comparing only the edition labels.
- For a physical copy, verify whether the box is a disc or a code and whether the retailer is selling the edition for your region.
Do not assume that an old launch SRP, an expired promotion or a roadmap target represents what you can buy today.
Platforms and physical editions
Supported platforms
Paradox lists Bloodlines 2 for Windows PC through Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher also states that the Windows version is compatible with Steam Deck. Compatibility is a publisher statement; performance, battery life and control comfort can still vary by game settings and the specific Deck model.
What comes in a physical box
Physical editions are available through select retailers. The PC box contains a Steam code rather than a PC disc. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series boxes contain a disc. Paradox describes a Day One Edition and a Premium physical edition with a Steelbook and other physical extras, but Premium contents vary by region and quantities are limited. Read the local retailer listing carefully before ordering, especially if you want a disc, a Steelbook or a particular bonus.
| Format | What the publisher says is supplied | Important check before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| PC physical box | Steam activation code | Confirm that your preferred launcher and account can redeem the code |
| PlayStation 5 physical | Game disc | Make sure you are buying the PS5 version and have a disc-capable console |
| Xbox Series X|S physical | Game disc | Check the exact regional listing and console compatibility |
| Premium physical | Steelbook and physical extras, with contents varying by region | Verify the local package and limited-stock status |
There is no multiplayer mode
Bloodlines 2 is single-player. Paradox’s FAQ says it has no multiplayer or co-op mode. Do not buy it expecting a way to play the campaign with friends or to carry a character into a shared online world.

PC requirements and Steam Deck considerations
The official requirements below apply to the Windows PC version. They specify a 30 GB storage requirement for both tiers and DirectX 12.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-8350K or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X | Intel Core i5-12600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB; AMD Radeon RX 480 8 GB; Intel Arc A580 8 GB with Resizable BAR enabled; or AMD Radeon 780M | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB |
| API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage | 30 GB | 30 GB |
Minimum does not mean identical performance
A system that meets the minimum list is eligible on paper, but it leaves less headroom for high resolution, visual effects and stable frame pacing. The recommended tier calls for 16 GB of RAM and substantially faster graphics hardware. Check your GPU model, system memory and available storage before buying; a game that launches is not necessarily a game that runs at the settings you want.
Steam Deck
The publisher states that the Windows version is compatible with Steam Deck. That tells you the game is intended to run on the device, but it does not establish a universal frame-rate, battery or graphics-quality result. If handheld play is your main reason for buying, use the current Steam listing and community-tested settings to confirm the experience on your Deck model.
Languages and accessibility basics
Paradox lists English audio. Subtitles are listed in English, German, French, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Latin-American Spanish, Turkish and Brazilian Portuguese. Confirm the store page for your region if a specific language is essential, because platform listings can display different language metadata.

How the game compares with expectations from the 2004 original
Where the sequel can satisfy fans
- It returns to the Vampire: The Masquerade setting with clan identity, supernatural powers and political maneuvering.
- Its Seattle setting and Fabien’s investigation provide a clear mystery framework rather than a generic fantasy backdrop.
- Six clans give a new campaign multiple character fantasies and distinct Disciplines.
- It is focused entirely on a solo narrative, so there is no online progression competing with the story.
Where expectations need adjustment
- The design is action-forward, so combat and direct ability use are more central than in a simulation-heavy role-playing game.
- Phyre begins as an elder vampire with an established identity, which is different from creating a less-defined fledgling protagonist.
- The available review evidence does not support claiming that Bloodlines 2 reproduces the original’s full quest reactivity or role-playing breadth.
- There is no established review-score average or complete critical consensus in the available material, so one launch review should not be presented as a final industry verdict.
The most useful comparison is not “Is it exactly like the original?” but “Do I want a modern vampire action mystery that uses the setting?” A yes makes Standard easier to recommend. A no is a reason to wait for a lower price or more hands-on information rather than paying extra for Premium.
Post-launch story content and the Premium risk
What the Expansion Pass is supposed to contain
The publisher’s FAQ names two story packs: Loose Cannon, centered on Brujah Sheriff Benny, and The Flower & the Flame, following Toreador Primogen Ysabella. Santa Monica Memories is also listed as part of the Expansion Pass content, although it is cosmetic rather than a story campaign.
Why availability must be checked
A January 28, 2026 PC Gamer roadmap report gave target windows of Q1/Q2 2026 for one pack and Q2/Q3 2026 for the other. Those windows are past or in progress as of October 2026, and the available sources do not establish that both packs have shipped on every platform. Store listings are the authority for your platform’s current availability. If a pack is not yet listed, do not value it as immediately playable content when deciding whether Premium is worth the extra money.

Choose Standard when…
- You want to test the core campaign before committing to add-ons.
- You care about story and combat but have little interest in apartment cosmetics.
- The price gap to Deluxe or Premium is larger than the value you place on their content.
- You prefer to buy expansions only after reading current availability and reviews.
Choose Deluxe when…
- You already know you want the base game.
- Decor inspired by the original game matters to you.
- The live Deluxe premium is small enough that the cosmetic pack feels worthwhile.
Choose Premium when…
- You have confirmed that the two story packs are available for your platform or are comfortable buying based on the publisher’s announced package.
- You specifically want Benny’s and Ysabella’s additional stories.
- The current Premium price is lower than, or close to, Standard plus the add-ons separately.
Wait when…
- You want an RPG sandbox that closely recreates the original’s freedom.
- You are buying mainly because of an expired sale price.
- You need a multiplayer or co-op game.
- Your PC is below the minimum requirements and you do not own a supported console.
Bottom line
Bloodlines 2 is a qualified recommendation. Buy Standard for a solo, dark Seattle vampire adventure with six clan options, investigation and action combat. Treat Deluxe as a cosmetics upgrade, and treat Premium as a bet on the value and current availability of two story expansions. The game is less convincing as a direct replacement for the original’s open-ended role-playing depth, so fans seeking that exact experience should wait for a discount or more evidence rather than paying the Premium price on nostalgia alone.
