Yes. You can play Uncharted: The Lost Legacy without finishing—or even owning—the other Uncharted games. PlayStation says each entry has a standalone narrative that can be enjoyed on its own. Earlier games add useful context about Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, but they are not required to follow this adventure.
Do you need to know the earlier games’ stories?
No. PlayStation’s Uncharted series FAQ says that, although the series has continuity, each game is meant to work as a standalone adventure. Naughty Dog likewise presented The Lost Legacy as a standalone story, and a 2017 PlayStation Blog preview said players did not need to own Uncharted 4.

The distinction is between understanding the plot and recognizing the characters. The game gives you the immediate setup it needs; earlier appearances provide extra familiarity rather than essential instructions for what is happening.
What earlier games add
The leads are Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, both characters introduced before this game. If you have played earlier entries, you will recognize them and may bring more context to their histories. Nadine’s role in particular follows her appearance in Uncharted 4, while Chloe has appeared in earlier series installments.

The Lost Legacy makes the pair’s partnership and backgrounds central to its own story. PlayStation’s game description frames the adventure around Chloe confronting her past and deciding what she will sacrifice to forge her own legacy. A 2017 PlayStation Blog interview also describes the game as a chance to show more of both characters beyond the roles in which players had previously encountered them.
What is the adventure about?
Chloe and Nadine team up to find the Golden Tusk of Ganesh in India’s Western Ghats, while pursuing it against the warlord Asav. Their contrasting approaches help drive the story: Naughty Dog described Nadine as a skilled tactician with a cool, calculating manner, while Chloe brings improvisation and wit. Their dynamic is part of the point, not a subplot that requires you to know the whole series first.

What kind of Uncharted game should you expect?
PlayStation describes cinematic combat, exploration, traversal and complex puzzles. A 2017 gameplay preview also covered a larger, more open area, optional exploration, a map and lockpicking, with opportunities to use stealth or fight directly. Those details describe the game’s design, not a current technical assessment of how it performs on any particular hardware.

Should you play another game first?

- For story comprehension: Start with The Lost Legacy if you like. PlayStation’s guidance supports playing any entry as a standalone narrative.
- For character familiarity: Play earlier games first if you want to meet Chloe and Nadine in their previous roles before seeing the game focus on their partnership.
- For genre fit: The bigger question is whether you want cinematic action, traversal, puzzles and combat—not whether you have completed the series.
A 2017 preview described The Lost Legacy as longer than The Last of Us: Left Behind but shorter than Uncharted 4. That is a qualitative comparison from contemporary preview coverage, not a sourced completion-time estimate.
