Yes, if you’re happy to find longer adventures inside a varied collection; probably not if you want one sustained, story-led campaign. UFO 50 contains 50 separate games, including a full JRPG that can take many hours, but you choose from the entire library from the start rather than following one long plot from beginning to end.
What you’re buying
UFO 50’s official Steam listing describes a collection of 50 single-player and multiplayer games spanning genres such as platformers, shoot ’em ups, puzzle games, roguelites, and RPGs. Each is presented as a complete game, but their lengths vary: some are compact arcade-style experiences, while others are larger adventures. All 50 are available at the start, so the collection is designed for choosing and switching between games, not unlocking a single campaign in order.

There are substantial experiences among the shorter ones. The official listing describes Grimstone as a full JRPG set in a fictional American West swallowed by Hell, with a player-created party, skill-based combat elements, and opportunities to avoid some overworld encounters strategically. It says the game could take many hours to beat. Campanella 2 is described as an exploratory adventure with procedurally generated levels. These examples make the collection more than a set of brief arcade diversions, but they don’t mean all 50 games are long or story-heavy.

Does UFO 50 have an overarching story?
It has a shared fictional backdrop, not one continuous campaign. The games are framed as products of a fictional 1980s company, UFO Soft, and recurring characters and sequels connect parts of the collection. GamesRadar reports that the fiction places UFO Soft’s games between 1982 and 1989; those dates describe the imagined company’s releases, not the real development period.

There is also a discovery-oriented layer to that fiction. In a GamesRadar developer feature, developer Eric Suhrke described exploration as central to the game and discussed hiding things across multiple layers. The feature reports a Terminal with clues and a scavenger hunt leading to a hidden 51st game. That can appeal if you enjoy uncovering lore and secrets, but it is not a substitute for a single protagonist’s story unfolding across one long adventure.
How well does it fit a preference for longer, story-driven games?
| What you want | How UFO 50 fits |
|---|---|
| One long campaign with a consistent protagonist and plot | Weak fit: it is a library of separate games, all available from the start. |
| Longer individual games to settle into | Good possibility: the official listing says Grimstone can take many hours, and identifies other larger adventures. |
| One consistent genre or combat system | Weak fit: the collection deliberately spans many genres and styles. |
| Connected fiction, hidden details, and player-led discovery | Potentially strong fit: recurring elements, the Terminal, and secrets link parts of the collection. |
| Reliable long sessions in every game | Weak fit: game lengths vary, and many are arcade-style. |
The practical trade-off is variety versus continuity. If your idea of a satisfying purchase is a single world and mechanics that deepen over dozens of hours, the collection’s format may interrupt the experience you’re looking for. If you like moving between distinct games and are willing to seek out the longer ones, its breadth can be the attraction rather than a distraction.

For a time-sensitive indication of player reception, the Steam listing showed 95% positive from 6,572 English-language user reviews and 84% positive from 50 recent reviews when checked in 2026. Those platform figures can change, and the recent-review percentage is based on a much smaller sample; neither rating establishes whether the collection’s structure will suit your preference for story-driven games.
