Truth Social can be used, but it is not a privacy-first or risk-free service. Treat it like any public social network: assume posts and messages may remain accessible, disclose as little sensitive information as possible, secure your account independently, and expect moderation decisions to be discretionary. Truth Social’s own policies describe broad data collection, limited security guarantees, U.S. data processing, and retention that can outlast deletion requests.
What “safe” means on Truth Social
Safety has several separate parts. A service can be reasonably usable while still collecting extensive information, exposing you to abusive content, retaining records for legal purposes, or offering no guarantee that an account cannot be compromised. For Truth Social, the practical question is not whether the platform is absolutely safe; no large online service can promise that. The useful question is whether its privacy, security and moderation rules match the information and risks you are willing to accept.

The strongest evidence points to a mainstream, public-facing social network with broad collection and permissive, discretionary moderation. The September 2024 privacy policy says the company uses safeguards but also warns that “no security measures are impenetrable.” No independent security audit or confirmed recent Truth Social data breach was established in the available public material. That absence is not proof that no incident has ever occurred.

Account and profile information
Truth Social’s September 2024 privacy policy lists information you provide when creating or using an account. Categories include your name, email address, mailing address, date of birth, location, phone number and related profile details. The information can identify you directly, especially when an account uses a real name, a reachable phone number or a personal email address.

Device, network and usage data
The same policy describes collection of device type, operating system, wireless carrier, IP address and browser information. It also refers to location derived from your IP address, device or browser; pages visited; timestamps; features used; cookies; server logs; and other usage information. This data can reveal patterns even when individual posts do not contain your name or address. An IP address can associate activity with a household, workplace or mobile connection, while timestamps and feature-use records can show when an account is active.
Posts, media and backups
Content you submit is itself data collected by the service. The policy says content remains stored until deletion and that backup copies may be retained for archival or redundancy purposes. Deleting a post or account therefore should not be treated as an instantaneous, guaranteed erasure from every system or backup. Other people may also copy, screenshot or redistribute a post before you remove it.
Tracking disclosures in Apple’s listing
Apple’s App Store privacy label adds important context. The developer reports that identifiers and usage data may be used to track users across other companies’ apps and websites. It also reports that coarse location, device ID, advertising data, product interaction and browsing history may be linked to your identity. Apple states that these developer responses are not verified by Apple, so the label is a disclosure from the developer rather than an independent audit. It is nevertheless a reason to review permissions and limit information you do not need to share.
Is Truth Social private?
It is better described as a service with conventional platform privacy controls than as a private communications tool. Public posts can be read, copied and archived by other users. Direct messages are not a promise that the recipient will keep them confidential, and the platform’s collection of logs and usage information means that the content itself is only one part of the record.

Avoid posting home addresses, travel itineraries, financial details, private medical information, identity documents, passwords, recovery codes or photographs that expose sensitive locations. Be cautious with images containing visible street signs, school uniforms, license plates, work badges or document numbers. If a detail would create a problem when copied outside its intended audience, do not publish it.
How secure is the service?
Truth Social says it has implemented measures designed to protect information from loss, misuse and alteration. Its policy also says safeguards can change over time and explicitly cautions that no security measure is impenetrable. That supports a cautious assessment, not a claim that the service is uniquely insecure.
Account security also depends on your own devices and credentials. A reused password can let an attacker enter through a breach elsewhere, even if Truth Social’s systems are functioning as intended. Phishing messages, malicious browser extensions, stolen session cookies and an unlocked phone can bypass many server-side protections.

Account-hardening checklist
- Use a long, unique password that you do not use on any other service.
- Enable multi-factor authentication if the current account settings offer it, and store recovery codes somewhere separate from the phone used for login.
- Keep the operating system, browser and Truth Social app updated through the official app store.
- Review active sessions or logged-in devices, if the account interface provides that view, and revoke sessions you do not recognize.
- Do not enter credentials after following an unsolicited link. Open the app or type the service address yourself.
- Protect the email account associated with Truth Social because control of that mailbox can enable password resets.
How moderation works
Rules and prohibited behavior
Truth Social describes its objective as viewpoint-neutral, with minimal removal and user choice through mute and block controls. Its Community Guidelines prohibit illegal activity, fraud, violence, child sexual abuse material, privacy violations, doxxing, spam, bots and impersonation. The listed report categories also include nudity, underage sexual content and intellectual-property violations. Phishing, username squatting and impersonator accounts are addressed separately.

NSFW and trolling material may be posted behind sensitive-content filters rather than removed in every case. That means a user can encounter disturbing, hostile or extremist material even when the material is not immediately visible in a default feed.
Automation and human review
The moderation FAQ says users can report a post from its three-dot menu and report messages from the chat interface. Truth Social says artificial intelligence flags some material for deletion or sensitive labeling, followed by multi-level human review. Human moderators may reinstate content that complies with the terms.
A 2025 Federal Trade Commission public-comment record quotes Truth Social’s own disclosure that “While the AI [they use for content moderation] is very good, it is not error-proof.” Automated systems can miss harmful material, incorrectly flag legitimate speech or apply labels inconsistently, so a decision is not necessarily a reliable statement about the content’s legal or factual status.
Company discretion and appeals
The terms reserve “sole and absolute discretion” to edit, redact, change, recategorize, pre-screen or delete user contributions. This is broader than a promise to remove only clearly illegal material. A post can therefore be restricted or removed under a discretionary interpretation of the terms even when you believe it is permissible. Save copies of work you cannot afford to lose, and do not use the platform as the only archive for professional or personal records.

Independent context on the content environment
Associated Press reporting in March 2024 cited researchers who characterized the platform as having lax moderation, hate speech and extremism. The report also noted that TMTG does not disclose user numbers. A Similarweb estimate cited by AP put the service at roughly 5 million monthly visits in February 2024, but visits are not equivalent to active accounts. The figures therefore describe traffic, not the number of people you can assume are seeing or responding to a post.

Requests for account information
Truth Social’s law-enforcement guidance says it may withhold content or accounts after receiving valid, properly specified legal demands. It generally says it will notify affected users unless a legal prohibition prevents notification, and it may indicate withheld content when possible. The exact result depends on the request, the applicable law and whether notice is legally allowed.
The 90-day preservation period
The same guidance says the company may preserve a temporary screenshot of relevant account records for 90 days while awaiting valid legal process. This is a preservation measure, not a promise that every record is retained for exactly 90 days or that all content is automatically deleted afterward. It means that attempting to delete an account does not necessarily prevent records from being preserved when a lawful request is pending.

U.S. hosting and cross-border transfers
Truth Social’s terms state that its website and applications are hosted in the United States and that users outside the United States consent to data being transferred to and processed there. People in other jurisdictions should consider how that transfer interacts with local privacy rights, employer policies and any restrictions on sending personal information abroad.
Can you delete your Truth Social data?
You can remove posts or request account deletion through the controls and procedures the service currently provides, but deletion has practical limits. The privacy policy says backup copies may remain for archival or redundancy purposes, and other users may already have copied your content. Legal preservation or disclosure obligations can also affect what the company can remove immediately.
Before deleting an account, download or preserve any material you need, remove sensitive profile details, revoke connected access where available and change passwords that were reused elsewhere. Deleting an account is not a substitute for changing a compromised password or reporting identity theft.
What to do if private intimate imagery is posted
Truth Social’s Take It Down Act policy provides a specific reporting route for non-consensual intimate imagery. It promises removal as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after receiving a valid report from an identifiable individual. Use the platform’s designated report process, provide the information required to establish that you are the affected person, and preserve evidence of the post, account and report confirmation without redistributing the imagery.

- Read the current policies. Check the privacy policy, cookie policy, Community Guidelines and terms immediately before creating an account. Policies can change, and the September 2024 privacy policy is a dated document rather than a permanent promise.
- Create a compartmentalized account. Use a unique password and an email address protected by multi-factor authentication. Do not reuse a password from banking, work or other social accounts.
- Minimize profile details. Provide only information required for the feature you intend to use. Avoid publishing a phone number, precise location, date of birth or mailing address in a public profile.
- Audit app permissions. On your phone, review location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone and notification access. Disable location and other permissions unless a feature genuinely needs them.
- Set content and contact controls. Use sensitive-content filters, mute and block controls, and limit who can contact you where the current interface allows it.
- Inspect every post for identifying clues. Check images, metadata, background details, travel timing and visible documents. Treat direct messages as durable records rather than confidential conversations.
- Report promptly. Use the three-dot menu for posts and the chat reporting interface for messages. For doxxing, threats, impersonation or intimate imagery, save the URL or account identifier and screenshots before reporting.
- Recheck the account periodically. Review sessions, permissions, recovery information and privacy settings after app updates or policy changes.
How to evaluate Truth Social against another network
If you are deciding whether to move an audience or create a second account, compare services on the same dimensions instead of relying on a general “safe” label.

On the evidence available for Truth Social, the main trade-off is clear: the platform offers ordinary social-network controls and a defined reporting process, but its collection is broad, its security language is qualified, and its moderation model leaves substantial room for company judgment. Use it only with information you would be prepared to see retained, copied or reviewed under those conditions.
