TROLLHEIM: GNOMES is planned to support both single-player and online co-op. Steam lists Single-player and Online Co-op, while the official description says you can play alone or with up to seven friends. That wording indicates a maximum group of eight players in total, although the final limit should be checked again when the game reaches Early Access.
The multiplayer design is described as a friends-only, private co-op experience. The game is still listed as Coming soon and remains in early development, so features, player limits and platform support can change before release.

| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Can you play alone? | Yes. Single-player is listed on Steam. |
| Is there multiplayer? | Yes. Online Co-op is listed. |
| How many people can play together? | The description says you can play with up to seven friends, implying eight players total. |

| What can the group do? | Survival, crafting, building and exploration of different biomes are intended to work in co-op. |
| Is it released? | No. Steam currently labels it Coming soon and says Early Access is planned. |
These are the features explicitly described by the current Steam listing and the developers’ official information. They should be treated as the present plan rather than a final technical specification.
Can you play TROLLHEIM: GNOMES solo?
Yes. Solo play is a confirmed part of the game’s design, not merely a possible workaround for an empty multiplayer lobby. Steam includes Single-player in the feature list, and the official description says, “Play with friends or on your own.” A player who starts alone should therefore be able to experience the survival sandbox without bringing a group into the session.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The solo context fits the game’s wider premise: a procedurally grown forest sandbox inspired by Nordic folk belief. The core loop is built around gathering resources, making tools, cooking, constructing a base and venturing through a wilderness with different biomes. Those systems are described as core survival features, so solo players are intended to engage with the same basic world-building and exploration framework as a co-op group.
Playing alone also gives you full control over the pace. You can decide when to gather materials, improve equipment, expand construction or move into a new area without coordinating with other people. The official wording does not promise a separate solo campaign, story path or difficulty setting, however. What is confirmed is access to the sandbox as a single player, not a distinct narrative mode.
Does TROLLHEIM: GNOMES have online co-op?
Yes. Online Co-op appears in the Steam feature list. The developers also state that their core systems already support survival gameplay, crafting, building and exploration of different biomes in co-op multiplayer during development.

That means co-op is meant to cover the main game rather than a small side activity. A group should be able to work on survival tasks, collect materials, make tools, cook, construct and explore the Nordic-inspired wilderness together. The wording confirms system support, but it does not define every multiplayer rule. For example, the listing does not explain how inventories, bases, world progression, respawning or save ownership will work.
“Online co-op” also means the confirmed multiplayer mode is networked play. The available information does not confirm local split-screen or couch co-op on the same device. If you need same-screen multiplayer, wait for an explicit platform feature announcement instead of assuming that online support includes it.

How many players can join one game?
The official description says you can play “by yourself or with up to 7 friends.” Read literally, that is one host or player plus seven invited friends: eight people in total. It is the clearest player-count statement currently available.
There are two reasons to treat the number as provisional. First, the game is still in early development. Second, the sentence describes the number of friends rather than presenting a separate, formal server-capacity specification. The developers could revise the limit, define it differently for platforms, or clarify it before Early Access. If an eight-player session is important to your group, verify the limit against the Early Access build and its final store information.

What kind of multiplayer is planned?
The developers call TROLLHEIM: GNOMES a “friends-only, private co-op experience where you set the pace.” That description points to invite-based sessions for people you know, rather than a game designed around an open public matchmaking pool.
Private co-op can be useful for a survival sandbox because the group can establish its own rhythm. Players can divide gathering and construction, pause exploration while someone prepares supplies, or stay together while learning a new biome. The phrase “set the pace” is a design description, not a promise of a particular pause system or host-control menu; those implementation details have not been published.

The current official listing does not document public matchmaking, dedicated-server support or a browser for joining random players. It also does not document cross-play between different platforms. Those omissions should not be interpreted as a confirmed “no,” but none of those capabilities should be assumed when planning a group.

What can you do together in co-op?
The developers specifically identify four connected areas as supported in multiplayer:
- Survival: manage the hazards and resource demands of the wilderness as a team.
- Crafting: gather materials and make tools and other equipment for the group’s progress.
- Building: construct shared structures while deciding how to use the available resources.
- Biome exploration: travel through different parts of the procedurally grown Nordic-inspired forest.
The broader description adds resource gathering and cooking to the survival-crafting sandbox. Those activities provide natural jobs for a group: one player can collect materials, another can prepare food, and others can work on construction or scouting. That is an implication of the systems described, not a published list of mandatory multiplayer roles.
There is no official statement that every activity must be performed together. The confirmed point is that the core systems are available and supported in co-op multiplayer. Whether players can split up indefinitely, how far they can travel from one another, or how shared discoveries are recorded remains to be explained.
Solo and co-op compared
| Aspect | Solo | Online co-op |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Steam lists Single-player. | Steam lists Online Co-op. |
| Group size | One player. | Up to seven friends are stated, implying eight players total. |
| Session style | You control the pace yourself. | Friends-only, private sessions are the stated model. |
| Main activities | Survival, resource gathering, crafting, cooking, building and biome exploration. | Survival, crafting, building and exploration of different biomes are stated as co-op-supported systems. |
| Availability | Planned; the game is currently Coming soon. | Planned; multiplayer remains subject to development changes. |
The choice is therefore about how you want to share the sandbox, not about selecting between two unrelated games. Solo is the confirmed private way to experience it alone; co-op adds invited friends to the same general survival, crafting, building and exploration concept.

Is TROLLHEIM: GNOMES coming to Early Access?
Yes. Steam says Early Access is planned, and the game is currently marked Coming soon. There is no fixed release date in the published information, so “coming soon” should not be read as a scheduled launch window.
The developers’ FAQ gives a best estimate of at least 12–18 months in Early Access. They also make clear that this is an estimate and can change. That expected length matters for anyone choosing the game primarily for multiplayer: the co-op systems may be available from the start of development access, but balancing, quality-of-life features and technical support can evolve throughout the Early Access period.
The developers have said that the core survival, crafting, building and biome-exploration systems are already implemented to support co-op multiplayer. This establishes the intended foundation, not a guarantee that every planned feature is complete or that the final release will preserve every current rule.

Which mode should you choose?
Choose solo if you want an independent pace
Solo is the clearest fit if you prefer to make every construction, exploration and resource decision yourself, or if your play schedule does not line up with a regular group. The official description directly supports playing on your own, and nothing in the current information suggests that a permanent co-op partner is required.
Choose co-op if your group wants a shared survival project
Co-op is aimed at friends who want to divide work and explore together in a private session. A group of two, three or more can use the same survival-crafting foundation, with the stated ceiling of up to seven invited friends. Because public matchmaking and dedicated servers are not documented, co-op is best planned around people who already know one another and can arrange sessions directly.
Wait for more details if a specific technical feature is essential
If you require cross-platform play, split-screen, public matchmaking, dedicated servers, a guaranteed eight-player cap or a fixed launch date, the current information is not sufficient to confirm compatibility. Those details need to be published before you can make a reliable setup plan.

TROLLHEIM: GNOMES is both a single-player and online co-op survival sandbox. You can play alone, or join a private friends-only session that is described as supporting up to seven friends, for a possible total of eight players. Co-op is intended to include the core survival, crafting, building and biome-exploration systems. Because the game is still Coming soon and headed for Early Access, treat the player limit and unannounced features as provisional until the developers publish the final specifications.
