Thermacell says its products should not be a concern for people or pets when used according to label directions, and that they may be used in backyards and where food is served. But that general guidance is not a substitute for the current EPA-approved label for LIV 2.0. Check that exact product’s label before use, especially around children, pets, or food.
What Thermacell says about pets, children, and food
Thermacell’s published safety guidance says its products should not be a concern for people or pets when used according to label instructions. The company also says there are no agency use restrictions around children and no restrictions on using its products in backyards or places where food may be served. These are manufacturer statements, not a guarantee that every setup or exposure is risk-free.

For pets, Thermacell’s LIV Smart support material advises: “If you have questions about use of the product around your specific pet, you should contact your veterinarian.” That is the manufacturer’s guidance, not advice from an individual veterinarian.
For food, Thermacell recommends washing produce grown near a device. The company’s statement that its products can be used where food is served does not remove the need to follow the exact product label.

Why the exact LIV 2.0 label matters
EPA explains that it reviews pesticide labels and risk data, including risks to sensitive groups such as children, and advises users to follow label instructions carefully. The EPA’s Pesticide Product Label System lets users search labels by product, company, chemical, or registration number.
The current EPA-approved LIV 2.0 label was not established in the available product information. Thermacell announced LIV 2.0 on June 2, 2026, with expanded EPA-registered claims for mosquitoes and no-see-ums, but that announcement does not provide detailed exposure or handling instructions. Use the label for the exact LIV 2.0 system and repellent cartridge rather than relying on general brand guidance.

Do not borrow directions from another Thermacell product
A Thermacell Mosquito Repellent II EPA label dated December 19, 2024, says not to contaminate food or feed during storage or disposal and to store unused mats where children and pets cannot reach them. That label names a different product; it is not established as the LIV 2.0 label, so its specific directions should not be transferred to LIV 2.0.

Thermacell’s LIV Smart support page identifies metofluthrin at 5.5% as the active ingredient in LIV Smart repellent cartridges. The LIV 2.0 launch announcement does not independently confirm that LIV 2.0 uses the same formulation. Do not assume the cartridge composition is unchanged unless the exact LIV 2.0 label confirms it.

Thermacell also says its own testing found ingredient deposited on nearby surfaces below one billionth of a gram per square centimeter. The company does not state a year for that safety-page figure, and it is not identified as an independent study or a LIV 2.0-specific result.

Practical checks before using LIV 2.0
- Find and read the current label for the exact LIV 2.0 system and cartridge; follow its setup, use, storage, and disposal instructions.
- Keep children and pets away from the system and any repellent components as directed by that label.
- Ask a veterinarian about concerns involving a particular pet, as Thermacell recommends.
- Wash produce grown near device use, following Thermacell’s guidance.
