At its reported U.S. launch price of $19.99, The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is a cautious buy for fans of the series who want a solo arcade brawler and can live with tough fights. Early Switch 2 reviews praise its familiar characters and setting but flag stiff controls, limited variety, punishing difficulty and a bug reported to force a level restart. If smooth combat or dependable progression matters most to you, wait for confirmation that the bug has been fixed or look for a discount.
What kind of Walking Dead game is it?
Streets of Survival is a single-player, side-scrolling beat ’em up—not a choice-driven adventure in the style of Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Its campaign draws on the All Out War conflict, with Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon and Michonne fighting walkers and the Saviors, including Negan. Nintendo’s listing names settings such as the Sanctuary, Hilltop and Alexandria.

Trailmark Games describes character-specific fighting styles and signature weapons, multiple difficulty levels, replayable challenges and an optional Easy Mode. Those are publisher descriptions; early reviews offer a more mixed assessment of how combat feels in practice.
What do the early Switch 2 reviews say?
Reviews published shortly after launch are mixed in emphasis, and they are too few to establish a settled critical consensus.
#1 Best Overall
- Hard-Hitting Arcade Beat ’Em Up Combat - Use brutal melee abilities, crowd-clearing ranged attacks, or a mix of the two in fast-paced skirmishes. Enjoy responsive, crisp, and satisfying fighting gameplay while exploring the apocalypse.
- Face Iconic Bosses - Take on powerful, fan-favorite walkers like Winslow, the Well Walker, and more. The Saviors provide their own challenges as you throw down with Negan and Simon in intense, multi-phase boss battles that test your skill, strategy, and survival instincts.
- Replayable Arcade Challenge - Master each character’s move set and tackle multiple difficulty levels in an experience built for repeat runs and escalating challenges. Or jump in with an optional Easy Mode for casual play.
- The upside: The Gaming Outsider’s October 3, 2026 review finds appeal in the Season 8 / All Out War material, pixel art, sound and retro-brawler nostalgia. It also notes familiar faces and places as a draw.
- The drawbacks: The Gaming Outsider describes the difficulty as punishing even on Easy and reports bugs that can force a level-wiping restart. Impulse Gamer’s October 6, 2026 review gives the game 3.1 and points to stiff controls and limited variety as weaknesses.
The restart issue is a particularly important risk for a game built around difficult fights: losing progress to a bug is different from simply having to retry a hard encounter. The available reports do not establish whether a patch has fixed it.
Who is likely to enjoy it—and who should wait?
| You may want to buy now if… | You may want to wait if… |
|---|---|
| You are a Walking Dead fan who enjoys seeing familiar characters and All Out War locations in a game. | You expect fluid, responsive controls; an early Switch 2 review specifically criticizes stiffness. |
| You like arcade beat ’em ups and do not mind challenging fights or replaying sections. | You want a forgiving experience: one reviewer says the game remains punishing even on Easy. |
| You are comfortable with the possibility of progression problems while the reported restart bug’s status is unclear. | You would rather avoid that uncertainty until a fix is confirmed. |
| You find the current price worthwhile for a single-player brawler with familiar franchise material. | You are mainly looking for varied combat or a choice-led Walking Dead story. |
Price, format and Switch 2 details
The Gaming Outsider and PS4Blog.net report a U.S. launch price of $19.99. Treat that as a launch-price reference, not a verified price today or in every region; check your local Nintendo eShop listing before buying. Nintendo lists the game as a digital download, with a download size of 2.2 GB. The listing gives it a PEGI 16 rating and shows one-player, single-system play.
Rank #2
- Based on the most watched drama in basic cable history!
- Take on the role of a Survivor from the show, collect supplies, and get back to Camp before it's too late!
- Semi-cooperative gameplay. Help your friends to keep them from turning into Walkers!
- If your Survivor dies, you come back as a Walker and now hunt the living!
- A tense survival boardgame for 1-4 players, ages 15+, with easy to learn rules, and a 45 minute playing time.
The Nintendo listing does not establish whether a physical edition is available. If you specifically want a cartridge, verify availability in your region rather than assuming one exists. Nintendo also notes that additional storage may be needed depending on the hardware model and use; a 2.2 GB download alone does not make extra storage a default requirement.
Verdict: buy at launch price or wait?
At the reported $19.99 U.S. launch price, buy if the Walking Dead setting and old-school brawler format matter more to you than polished controls, broad variety or a fully reassuring difficulty curve. If any of those drawbacks would sour the experience, wait for a discount and for clearer confirmation about the reported restart bug.
