Samsung lists Auto Game Mode (ALLM), VRR, HGiG, Game Bar, AI Auto Game Mode, AI Gaming Optimizer and Game Motion Plus. However, Samsung’s own UK listing contains a critical conflict: its gaming description says the 50-inch model supports VRR at 4K/120Hz, while the connectivity table lists 4K/60Hz for HDMI 1, 2, 3 and 4. Until Samsung confirms the exact regional model and port capabilities, treat 4K/120Hz as advertised support rather than a guaranteed signal on a particular input.
That makes the QE50QN80H a plausible console TV, but not one to buy on an assumption that every HDMI socket delivers 4K/120Hz. Check the full product code, ask Samsung which input supports your desired signal, and verify the result in the console and TV information screens after installation.

What the 50-inch QE50QN80H is
The QE50QN80HAUXXU is Samsung UK’s model code for a 50-inch 2026 QN80H Neo QLED 4K Mini LED television. Samsung’s product page explicitly mentions Xbox and PS5 compatibility and presents the set as a gaming-capable display. The page lists four HDMI inputs and the following gaming functions:
- Auto Game Mode, also called ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode)
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
- Game Bar
- HGiG for supported HDR game workflows
- AI Auto Game Mode and AI Gaming Optimizer
- Game Motion Plus
These are feature listings, not an independent test of input lag, image quality or frame-rate stability. No published console-specific measurements or input-lag figure were available for this exact 50-inch model, so it is not possible to make a verified “low-latency” or “4K/120 tested” claim.

Regional suffixes matter. Samsung’s specifications can vary by market, and the UK code should not be treated as proof of the capabilities of a similarly named television sold elsewhere. Before buying, copy the complete model code from the retailer or the television’s information screen and match it with the documentation for your country.
Does the QE50QN80H support 4K/120Hz?
Samsung’s UK page makes two statements that cannot safely be combined into one definitive port specification:
| Samsung UK listing element | Published statement | What you should conclude |
|---|---|---|
| Gaming description for the 50-inch model | VRR/4K@120Hz support is stated. | Samsung advertises a 4K/120Hz gaming mode for this size. |
| Connectivity specification | HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 are each listed as 4K 60Hz. | The page does not identify a port with a confirmed 4K/120Hz maximum. |
Both statements appear on Samsung’s 2026 UK QE50QN80H product page. The material does not explain whether the difference reflects a mode distinction, a regional specification, a documentation error or another limitation. Do not assume that HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 will accept 4K/120Hz simply because the gaming copy mentions it. Ask Samsung to confirm the exact regional code and the supporting input before relying on 120Hz as a purchase requirement.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy 120Hz matters to console buyers
A 120Hz output gives a console the opportunity to refresh the image twice as often as a 60Hz output. It does not make every game render at 120 frames per second. The console, the individual game’s performance mode and the television’s accepted signal all have to support the combination. A game can remain 30 or 60 frames per second even when the console menu offers a 120Hz output option.

VRR is a separate part of the chain. It allows the display refresh to follow changing frame delivery within its supported range, which can reduce visible tearing or uneven motion. Samsung lists VRR, but the page does not publish a tested operating range for this 50-inch model. Confirm the range and the accepted resolutions with Samsung if those details affect your decision.
The 50-inch model is not the 144Hz version shown in larger-size marketing
Samsung explicitly qualifies its headline Motion Xcelerator feature: “Motion Xcelerator 144Hz” is not applicable to 50" on the UK product page. Samsung also says 4K/144Hz is available only with PC-connected content. Consequently, the 50-inch QE50QN80H should not be described as a 144Hz console television, and claims made for larger QN80H sizes should not be transferred to it.
A separate Samsung Australia 2026 retailer specification sheet reinforces that size-dependent specifications exist. Its 50-inch row lists a 50Hz refresh-rate entry and FreeSync as N/A; the 55-, 65- and 75-inch rows list 144Hz VRR (100Hz native) and FreeSync Premium Pro. Those figures belong to the Australian sheet and its listed sizes, so use them as evidence of variation rather than as a universal specification for every country.

How to connect a PS5 or Xbox safely
Samsung’s general support guidance says to connect a game console directly to a compatible HDMI input and, where supported, use an input rated for 4K/120Hz. Its Korean support article is a general Samsung-TV guide published in 2021, not a model-specific 2026 port map. Follow these steps without assuming a particular HDMI number:
- Identify the exact television code. Record the complete regional model code from the box, invoice or TV settings. Keep it available when checking Samsung’s support pages or contacting support.
- Connect the console directly to the TV. Plug the PS5 or Xbox into one of the television’s HDMI inputs rather than routing it through an older receiver, switch or capture device that may limit resolution, refresh rate, HDR or VRR.
- Use a suitable cable. A certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is a sensible choice when you are trying to carry a high-bandwidth console signal. Samsung’s documentation does not require a particular brand or cable length. Replacing a cable cannot resolve a disagreement in the TV’s published port specifications.
- Select the matching HDMI source. On the TV, switch to the HDMI input where the console is connected. If the set offers an input-label or enhanced-format option, use the setting intended for high-bandwidth gaming, but note the exact label can differ by region and firmware.
- Enable game automation. Leave Auto Game Mode/ALLM enabled if you want the TV to switch into its game profile when the console signals gameplay. You can also open the TV’s Game Mode controls manually. The available Game Bar can show the active gaming signal and settings on supported firmware.
- Configure the console output. On PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and review the resolution, 120Hz output, VRR and HDR entries. On Xbox, open Settings > General > TV & display options and use the console’s 4K TV details and video-mode checks. These menus report what the console detects; they do not override a limitation in the TV or cable.
- Check the result on both devices. Confirm the TV’s information/Game Bar overlay and the console’s output screen report the intended resolution, refresh rate, VRR state and HDR mode. Test with a game that actually offers a high-frame-rate mode; a console dashboard alone cannot prove game rendering performance.
- Document the working combination. Note the HDMI socket, cable and console mode that worked. If you move the console, repeat the verification rather than assuming every input has the same capability.
Recommended gaming settings and what they do
Auto Game Mode (ALLM)
ALLM lets the console request a low-latency game picture mode automatically. Samsung lists Auto Game Mode for the QE50QN80H. Enable it if you want automatic switching; use the manual Game Mode control if you prefer to keep a fixed picture profile. Because no independent latency measurement is published for this model, the feature listing should not be converted into a millisecond claim.
VRR
Turn on VRR in the TV’s gaming controls and in the console’s video settings when both devices report support. Then verify the status in the TV’s Game Bar or information panel. If VRR disappears when you select a particular resolution or refresh rate, record that combination and ask Samsung whether the behavior is expected for your regional code.

HGiG and HDR
HGiG is listed among Samsung’s gaming features and is intended for games that follow the HGiG approach to HDR tone mapping. Use the console’s HDR calibration procedure after choosing the TV’s HDR gaming setting. If highlights look clipped or the game provides its own HDR calibration, compare the result with HGiG enabled and disabled; the correct choice depends on the game’s implementation and your preference.

Game Bar
Game Bar provides an on-screen place to inspect gaming information and adjust supported options. Use it after changing output settings to see whether the TV is actually receiving 4K, 60Hz or 120Hz, HDR and VRR. Treat the reported signal as the TV’s accepted input, not as proof that the game is rendering at the same frame rate.
AI Auto Game Mode and AI Gaming Optimizer
Samsung lists both AI-oriented gaming features. Their exact controls and availability can depend on firmware and region. If you enable them, check what picture or sound changes they make and keep a note of the baseline Game Mode settings so you can return to a predictable configuration.
Game Motion Plus
Game Motion Plus is listed for this model. It is separate from the 144Hz claim that Samsung excludes from the 50-inch size. Change it only after confirming the console signal in Game Bar, because motion-processing options can alter how the picture is handled even when the incoming refresh rate has not changed.

What to do if 4K/120Hz does not appear
The console reports only 4K/60Hz
First, check the exact model code and cable, reconnect the console directly, and review the TV’s Game Mode or enhanced-HDMI option. Try another HDMI input, but do not assume one is the 120Hz port. If all four inputs continue to report 4K/60Hz, contact Samsung with the regional code and quote both statements on the UK listing: the gaming note advertising VRR/4K@120Hz and the connectivity table listing 4K 60Hz on HDMI 1–4. Samsung needs to clarify whether your edition accepts 4K/120Hz and, if so, which input and mode are required.

VRR is unavailable
Check VRR on the console and TV, then test a supported output resolution. Disable intermediary equipment and confirm that the console is not forcing a fixed 60Hz mode. Samsung’s page does not publish a VRR range for the 50-inch model, so a missing option at a particular signal should be verified with support rather than diagnosed as a defect from the feature list alone.
HDR looks wrong or the picture is dim
Run the console’s HDR calibration again, check whether HGiG is enabled, and compare the game’s own HDR slider with the console result. Keep one change at a time so you can identify whether the issue comes from the game, console output or TV picture mode.
The TV changes modes unexpectedly
ALLM can switch the set into a game profile when the console signals gameplay. If you want a fixed picture mode, disable Auto Game Mode and select the desired mode manually. Re-enable it when you want automatic switching.

How the QE50QN80H compares with another gaming TV
Use these checks rather than comparing model names or marketing headlines:
| Comparison point | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Refresh rate at your target resolution | Confirm 4K/60Hz or 4K/120Hz for the exact screen size, regional model and HDMI input. |
| HDMI capability | Count the inputs and confirm which, if any, accept the console signal you need. |
| VRR and ALLM | Check that both are supported at the resolution and refresh rate you plan to use. |
| HDR gaming | Look for documented HDR format support and HGiG if that workflow matters to you. |
| Documentation clarity | Prefer a specification that clearly maps refresh rates to individual ports instead of relying on an unqualified headline. |
On the current Samsung UK evidence, the first two checks remain unresolved for this exact 50-inch regional model because the same page gives incompatible rate statements. That uncertainty is more important than the QN80H name shared with larger sizes.
Bottom line for PS5 and Xbox owners
The QE50QN80H has the right category of gaming features and Samsung explicitly markets the QN80H range for PS5 and Xbox. ALLM, VRR, HGiG and Game Bar make it a credible candidate for console use. The decisive caveat is documentation: Samsung’s UK page advertises VRR/4K@120Hz for the 50-inch set while listing 4K/60Hz for every HDMI input, and Samsung excludes the 50-inch model from Motion Xcelerator 144Hz. Buy it for the documented gaming feature set only after Samsung confirms the exact regional product code, supported HDMI input and maximum signal. Then verify the actual console handshake on your own installation.
