Only sometimes. The Galaxy Watch4 is a conditional bargain in 2026. It makes sense at a genuinely low price, from a seller that accepts returns, and only after you’ve confirmed that the specific unit charges and holds a charge. It still runs Wear OS and works with Android phones. But Samsung’s August 2026 update appears to be its last security patch, and a five-year-old battery won’t match the figures Samsung advertised at launch.
Is it still supported?
Samsung’s update record for the Watch4 (model SM-R870) lists an update released on 25 August 2026. It runs AndroidWear 6.0 and carries a security patch level of 5 August 2026. Verizon separately lists an update released 24 August 2026 for US carrier variants, also with the August 2026 patch. Rollouts can differ by model, carrier and country.

A September 2026 Android Authority report says Samsung removed the Watch4 and Watch4 Classic from its Mobile Security work-scope schedule. It describes the August patch as the final one. The same report says the Watch4 received four generations of Wear OS upgrades. That end-of-support reading comes from a report on Samsung’s schedule change. Lifecycle status can change, so check Samsung’s own current security listing for your exact model.
In practice, the watch won’t suddenly stop working. But you shouldn’t expect new platform features, or fixes for vulnerabilities found from now on. That is the main reason to demand a real discount.

What you still get
Samsung introduced the Watch4 as the first generation of its watches on Wear OS Powered by Samsung, with Google and third-party app support. Samsung’s 2021 launch announcement named Google Maps, Strava, Spotify and Calm as examples. App availability and features can change over time, so don’t assume any of them will work indefinitely.

The Classic version adds a physical rotating bezel, which matters if you want tactile controls.
Battery: the biggest unknown
At launch, Samsung claimed up to 40 hours on a charge and up to 10 hours of use from a 30-minute charge. Those are 2021 manufacturer claims, not independent tests. They say nothing about how an individual watch performs after years of charging cycles. Treat them as a ceiling. Ask the seller for a recent charge test or battery-health information, and confirm the watch holds a charge.

Will it work with your phone?
- Samsung Australia’s compatibility table lists Android 6.0 or later with at least 1.5GB of RAM. It says iPhone is not supported.
- Samsung notes that some devices may be incompatible even if they meet those minimums.
- That table is regional. Check your exact phone and Samsung’s requirements for your country.
- If you’re buying an LTE model, confirm your carrier supports it. The compatibility table doesn’t guarantee every model and carrier combination.
How to judge the price
No single price makes the Watch4 a “great deal” everywhere. It depends on your country, the size, whether it’s Bluetooth or LTE, the seller, the condition, and what supported alternatives cost nearby. Rather than a fixed cutoff, compare real listings in your region on these points:

Checklist for used or refurbished listings
- Confirm the exact model (Watch4 or Watch4 Classic), case size, and Bluetooth or LTE variant.
- Confirm the previous owner’s Samsung account is removed, and that setup can be completed after a reset.
- Check the screen, bezel (on the Classic), buttons, sensors and charging contacts.
- Make sure a compatible charger is included.
- Check that the band fits, since bands are sold separately and connector compatibility matters if you replace it.
- Insist on a return policy, so you can send it back if the battery disappoints.

- Reasonable buy: an Android user who wants a basic Wear OS watch for notifications, fitness tracking and maps, and who finds a verified, returnable unit at a deep discount.
- Skip it: iPhone users, anyone who wants years of security updates, and anyone paying close to the price of a newer supported model.
