No. Samsung’s published specifications reviewed for the Galaxy Tab S8 do not list an IP water-resistance rating. That means you should treat the tablet as non-waterproof and keep it away from splashes, spills, rain, sinks, pools and submersion.
The absence of a rating is a documentation fact, not proof that Samsung performed a hidden water test. Galaxy phones with IP68 protection are separate products, and their claims cannot be transferred to the Tab S8.

The short answer: do not use a Galaxy Tab S8 around water
The Galaxy Tab S8 is not documented as waterproof. In the Samsung specifications reviewed for the tablet family, there is no IP code or other water-resistance figure. Without a model-specific rating, there is no supported basis for calling the tablet splashproof, water-resistant or safe to submerge.

This applies to the Wi-Fi version identified by Samsung as model SM-X700 and to the Tab S8 family generally unless Samsung publishes different, model-specific documentation for a particular regional variant. A tablet can continue working after an accidental drop or spill, but survival of one incident is not a protection rating and cannot be used to predict what will happen next time.

What Samsung’s Tab S8 specifications actually establish
The model covered by Samsung’s support material
Samsung’s support site identifies the Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi model as SM-X700 and provides manuals for the tablet family. The listed material includes an Android 12 manual dated March 18, 2022, as well as later manual versions; the support page also shows a manual updated in 2025. Those documents establish the product identity and provide the place to check current, model-specific handling advice.
No IP rating appears in the reviewed specifications
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series business specification sheet, published around 2022, lists technical details but does not state an IP water-resistance rating for the tablet. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi product listing likewise does not provide a water-protection figure. The accurate wording is therefore: Samsung does not list a water-resistance rating in the specifications reviewed.
That wording matters. A missing IP code does not prove that the tablet was tested and failed, nor does it prove that it was never tested. It simply means buyers do not have a published rating that defines permitted exposure, test depth, duration or exclusions. You should make handling decisions from the documented information, not from assumptions about unlisted engineering.

An IP rating is a standardized protection claim with two digits: one for solid-particle protection and one for water. A water digit would normally be tied to specified laboratory conditions, such as dripping, spraying or temporary immersion. Because no such rating is listed for the Tab S8 specifications reviewed, there is no Samsung-published test condition you can use to justify taking the tablet into a shower, onto a pool deck or underwater.
Do not transfer Galaxy phone IP68 claims to the tablet
Samsung publishes separate water-and-dust-protection material for particular Galaxy phone models. The document reviewed discusses phones including the Galaxy S8 and S8+, not the Galaxy Tab S8 tablet. Any 1.5-meter, 30-minute figure associated with those phone products belongs to the named phone models and their stated test conditions.
The similar product name is an easy source of confusion: Galaxy S8 is a phone, while Galaxy Tab S8 is an 11-inch tablet. Their enclosures, ports, seals, microphones, speakers and test documentation are not interchangeable. Unless Samsung explicitly lists the Tab S8 model in an IP certification or water-resistance statement, phone protection claims are irrelevant evidence for the tablet.
What common wet situations mean for a Tab S8
Small splashes and a drink spill
A few droplets may not cause immediate failure, but the absence of a rating means there is no supported safe splash limit. Keep drinks away from the tablet, use a stable surface and avoid placing it beside sinks or wet countertops. If liquid is spilled, stop interacting with the device and follow the conservative response steps below rather than testing whether it still works.

Rain and outdoor use
Light rain is still liquid exposure. A brief walk from a car does not establish a safe operating condition, and a tablet case that protects against scratches is not automatically sealed against water. For outdoor work, keep the Tab S8 inside a closed bag or a purpose-made protective pouch until you are under cover.
Bathrooms, kitchens and humid areas
Steam, condensation and airborne droplets can reach openings even when the tablet is never submerged. Do not rely on a bathroom shelf, kitchen counter or damp workspace as a safe location. If you need a screen for a recipe or reference near a sink, position the tablet outside the splash zone and use a separate barrier designed for that environment.
Swimming pools, beaches and boating
Pool water, seawater and wet hands create several risks at once: liquid entry, drops on hard surfaces, salt or chlorine residue and difficult recovery if the tablet falls. The Tab S8 has no published water-resistance figure in the reviewed specifications, so it should not be taken into the pool, used over open water or treated as recoverable after immersion.
Cleaning the screen
Do not spray cleaner directly onto the tablet. Apply only a small amount of suitable cleaner to a cloth if the product instructions permit it, keep liquid away from ports and openings, and avoid saturating the surface. This is cautious handling advice, not a Samsung water-resistance claim.
What to do if the tablet gets wet
The following is a conservative electronics response. Samsung’s current model-specific support guidance should take precedence, and the Tab S8 manual should be consulted for any instructions that differ.
- Move it away from the liquid. Set the tablet on a dry, stable surface and remove it from rain, a sink or any source of continuing exposure.
- Disconnect accessories. Unplug the charging cable, headphones, keyboard or other connected equipment. Do not insert a connector into a visibly wet port.
- Stop using the controls. Repeated taps can push moisture farther into openings and can keep power flowing through a wet area.
- Power it down if you can do so safely. If the screen is unresponsive or the device is hot, smoking or showing other danger signs, do not keep handling it; seek professional assistance.
- Blot the exterior. Use a clean, absorbent cloth around the screen, edges, buttons and ports. Do not shake the tablet, insert tissue or tools into a port, or use compressed air.
- Do not charge it while moisture may remain. Charging a wet connector can cause additional damage. Wait until the device and ports are completely dry, and obtain model-specific advice if you are unsure.
- Contact Samsung support or a qualified repair service. Explain what liquid reached the tablet, when it happened and whether it was powered on. If the tablet was submerged, prompt professional assessment is more sensible than repeated power-on tests.
Do not use a hair dryer, oven, radiator or other strong heat source to accelerate drying. Heat can damage adhesives, batteries and displays while leaving moisture trapped inside. Also avoid the common “rice” remedy: loose particles can enter ports, and rice does not reverse corrosion or provide a controlled drying process.
Can a waterproof pouch make the Tab S8 safe near water?
A correctly designed pouch can act as a separate barrier, but it does not make the tablet itself waterproof and does not create an IP rating for the Tab S8. No specific pouch was evaluated for this article, and no pouch should be represented as Samsung-approved.

Start with the tablet’s actual dimensions
Samsung lists the Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi display as 11.0 inches (278.1 mm). That measurement describes the display diagonal, not the complete outside dimensions. An 11-inch pouch may still be too short, too narrow or too tight once the tablet’s bezels, case and corner shape are included. Measure the tablet with any case installed and compare those measurements with the pouch’s internal dimensions.
Read the pouch’s own protection claim
Look for a stated closure design, compatible device size and the conditions under which the maker claims protection. A pouch rated for brief splashes is not equivalent to one intended for immersion. Check whether the claim assumes a new, undamaged seal, a particular depth or time limit, and a specific orientation. If the wording is vague, treat the pouch as splash protection at most.
Test before placing the tablet inside
Inspect the seal for dirt, tears, stretched material or trapped debris. Test the empty pouch with a dry paper towel before using the tablet near water, then inspect the towel for dampness. Repeat the inspection whenever the pouch has been dropped, folded sharply or exposed to sand. A pouch is a consumable barrier, not permanent insurance.
Account for use and condensation
A sealed pouch can reduce touch sensitivity, make fingerprint or face-unlock systems unreliable and trap condensation when temperatures change. Keep the tablet outside the pouch when it is not near water, open the pouch only in a dry place, and never assume that a pouch protects against every liquid, pressure level or accident.

When keeping the tablet dry is practical
- Place the Tab S8 outside the splash zone rather than relying on a case.
- Use a stand or desk location that prevents drinks from being knocked onto it.
- Carry it in a closed, dry compartment during rain or travel.
- Store it away from bathrooms, pools, boats and wet work surfaces.
When proximity to water is unavoidable
- Select a pouch whose internal dimensions fit the bare tablet or your installed case.
- Verify the pouch’s stated protection conditions and closure method.
- Perform a paper-towel leak test before each high-risk outing.
- Keep the tablet above standing water and away from submerged handling.
- Inspect the barrier after use and replace it if the seal or material is damaged.
If your work requires routine immersion, spray exposure or operation in heavy rain, choose equipment that has an explicit manufacturer water-resistance rating for that environment instead of trying to infer protection from the Tab S8’s design.
Where to verify current model-specific advice
Use Samsung’s support page for the SM-X700 and select the latest manual available for your region. The support listing includes older and newer manuals, so instructions can vary by software version, market or accessory. The reviewed material did not establish a specific liquid-cleanup or charging procedure for the Tab S8; consult the current manual or Samsung support directly if the tablet has been exposed.
Regional configurations can differ, including storage options and product listings. Samsung Philippines, for example, lists the Wi-Fi display as 11.0 inches (278.1 mm). Use the dimensions and model number printed for your own unit when checking accessories rather than assuming every regional Tab S8 configuration is identical.
Bottom line
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 should be treated as non-waterproof because Samsung’s reviewed specifications do not publish an IP water-resistance rating for it. Keep it dry, do not import IP68 claims from Galaxy phones, and use a separately verified protective pouch only as a barrier when water proximity cannot be avoided. If the tablet gets wet, stop using and charging it, dry the exterior without heat, and consult current Samsung support for the SM-X700.
