The Samsung Galaxy S9 measures 5.81 × 2.70 × 0.33 inches (147.7 × 68.7 × 8.5 mm) and weighs 5.75 oz (163 g), according to Samsung. Whether that is a “perfect fit” depends on your hands, pockets and case. The specifications give you the numbers, but they can’t tell you how it feels to hold.
Galaxy S9 dimensions and weight
| Measurement | Galaxy S9 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Height × width × thickness (imperial) | 5.81 × 2.70 × 0.33 in | Samsung US specifications |
| Height × width × thickness (metric) | 147.7 × 68.7 × 8.5 mm | Samsung Global Newsroom, 2018 launch table |
| Weight | 5.75 oz / 163 g | Samsung US; Samsung Global Newsroom |
Samsung’s current US page and its 2018 launch table agree on these figures.

The 5.8 inches is the screen, not the height
The “5.8” in most S9 descriptions is the display measured diagonally. The body is 5.81 inches tall, which is a coincidence of rounding. Samsung’s US Verizon support page also gives two display figures. The full rectangle is 146.5 mm (5.8 in). Allowing for the rounded corners, it is 143.3 mm (5.6 in). Regional pages may state the convention differently, so check which one a listing uses before comparing screen sizes.

- Drop-proof and Shock-absorbing: the excellent elasticity of liquid silicone can effectively absorb the impact and reduce the risk of damage when dropped
- Sense of Experience: Our liquid silicone phone cases are loved for their soft, skin-friendly touch and superior elastic protection
- At 68.7 mm wide, the S9 is noticeably narrower than the S9+ (73.8 mm), which affects thumb reach across the screen.
- At 8.5 mm thick, it is the same as the S9+, so pocket depth won’t separate the two. Height and width will.
- Any case adds bulk. Check a case’s stated external dimensions if you use a tight mount or armband.
Samsung’s pages don’t offer ergonomic testing, so treat “perfect fit” as your own judgment. Holding one in a shop is the most reliable check.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Buying a case or screen protector
- Case: The listing should name the Galaxy S9 explicitly. The model family is commonly SM-G960. Don’t assume an S9+ case fits, since the bodies differ in size.
- Screen protector: Samsung specifies a curved dual-edge display, so a flat protector may not cover the whole screen. No specific third-party product was verified for fit. Confirm compatibility in each product’s listing.
Samsung’s dimensions don’t validate any aftermarket accessory. Compatibility has to come from the seller’s own listing.
