Yes—if you’ll use its S Pen, built-in Privacy Display, large screen, or long-range camera zoom. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is a feature-rich flagship, but it is an incremental upgrade for recent Ultra owners and a harder sell if you mainly want the longest battery life or won’t use its specialist features. Its price also needs checking: Samsung’s US product page and an October 1, 2026 report give different starting figures.
Who should buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra?
The S26 Ultra is most compelling when its distinctive features match how you use a phone. Samsung lists a 6.9-inch display, an integrated S Pen, and a 200 MP main camera alongside 50 MP ultra-wide and telephoto cameras. The screen measures 6.9 inches diagonally across the full rectangle, or 6.7 inches accounting for rounded corners, according to Samsung’s launch announcement.

- Buy it if: you want an S Pen built into your phone, a privacy control you can enable for selected content, or a large display and long-range zoom camera.
- Consider it if: you’re choosing a premium Android phone and value its combination of screen, stylus, camera options, and fast charging enough to accept its size and cost.
- Look elsewhere or wait if: you own a recent Ultra and expect a major leap, prioritize class-leading battery life, or won’t use the features that distinguish this model.
Samsung’s product specifications and the independent review results discussed below describe different kinds of evidence: manufacturer claims are not equivalent to lab measurements. Samsung’s US product page
How much does the S26 Ultra cost?
The US figures are inconsistent and time-sensitive. Samsung’s US product page advertises a starting price of $1,299.99 before trade-in, while a Tom’s Guide report updated October 1, 2026 says the US starting price rose to $1,399 from $1,299. Check the live listing for the price in your market, and distinguish the phone’s price from any trade-in offer.

What does Privacy Display do—and does the S26 Ultra have a privacy screen?
Yes. Privacy Display is built into the phone’s screen; Samsung calls it the world’s first built-in Privacy Display for mobile phones. Tom’s Guide found it useful and configurable for selected apps and notification pop-ups. That makes it a practical option for limiting what people nearby can see in certain situations, rather than a separate screen protector.

There is a trade-off: Tom’s Guide measured 1,806 nits in HDR, compared with 1,860 nits for the S25 Ultra. The publication said Samsung shared different test results and that it planned to retest, so treat that brightness comparison as unsettled rather than definitive. Samsung’s product claim about Privacy Display is described in its Galaxy S26 announcement.

The rear camera system pairs a 200 MP wide camera (listed at f/1.4 by Samsung) with 50 MP ultra-wide and 50 MP telephoto cameras. In Tom’s Guide’s review, the strongest points were improved low-light performance and long-range zoom. The review also found weaker macro detail than on the iPhone 17 Pro Max in its comparison, and occasional oversaturated color. Those are observations from that review, not guarantees for every scene or a universal ranking.

In practical terms, the S26 Ultra makes more sense if you often photograph distant subjects or take pictures in dim conditions than if close-up detail or consistently restrained color is your top priority. Tom’s Guide’s camera and comparison findings
How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh battery and advertises up to 31 hours of video playback. That playback figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent endurance result. In Tom’s Guide’s 2026 test, the phone lasted 16 hours and 10 minutes while browsing the web over 5G at 150 nits. The two figures measure different activities and should not be compared as though they were the same test.

Tom’s Guide recorded 77% charge after 30 minutes and said charging improved over the S25 Ultra in its test. Its review characterized battery life as solid, but the test result trailed the iPhone 17 Pro Max and OnePlus 15. Your own endurance will vary with signal, screen settings, apps, and workload. What are the main trade-offs?
It is large and has a prominent camera bump
Samsung lists the phone at 214 g and 7.9 mm thick. Tom’s Guide reported that the pronounced camera bump can make it wobble when placed on a flat table. The reviewer also noted a scratch during a short review period; that is one reviewer’s observation, not a durability test or evidence of how commonly scratches occur.

- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
Magnetic accessories require a compatible case
Tom’s Guide noted that the phone lacks built-in Qi2 magnets. If you want to use magnetic accessories, check that your case is compatible; don’t assume the phone itself provides the magnetic attachment.
It may not be a compelling upgrade from a recent Ultra
TechRadar characterized the S26 Ultra as an iterative upgrade. For an S25 Ultra owner, the sensible question is whether the specific gains in camera use, display features, charging, design, or performance justify the actual upgrade cost—not whether the new model is simply newer. Review results can help frame that decision, but they do not establish the value of a particular trade-in offer.
What performance and configurations do you get?
TechRadar’s March 2026 review lists a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, Android 16, and 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM depending on storage tier. The listed storage options are 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Tom’s Guide recorded 11,563 in its Geekbench multi-core result and 3,785 single-core; these are results from a particular benchmark, not a direct measure of every app or workload.

That is one lab comparison, not a general measure of which phone has more useful AI features. Samsung’s announcement frames its AI philosophy as something people should be able to depend on in everyday use; that statement is the company’s position, not independent performance evidence. Is the S26 Ultra worth it over the S25 Ultra?
For an S25 Ultra owner, it is worth considering if the S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display, low-light or zoom improvements, and charging changes would make a meaningful difference in your day-to-day use. The available review evidence does not make it a must-upgrade: the brightness result is contested, camera benefits depend on what you shoot, and TechRadar describes the overall update as iterative. Compare the current price after any eligible trade-in with what you would pay to keep your existing phone; no single upgrade verdict applies to every offer.
Quick Recap
How to decide before you buy
- Check your local price. Verify the live price for your country and configuration, and separate trade-in discounts from the base price.
- Match features to your habits. Decide whether you will use the S Pen, Privacy Display, large screen, and zoom camera. Paying for features you rarely use weakens the value.
- Choose storage for your needs. The configurations listed by TechRadar are 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB; compare their prices before choosing.
- Account for accessories. If magnetic add-ons matter to you, confirm case compatibility because the phone lacks built-in Qi2 magnets.
- Compare like with like. For battery claims, distinguish Samsung’s video-playback estimate from independent tests with specified conditions. For camera comparisons, consider whether zoom, macro, or color is most important to you.
