The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is water-resistant, not waterproof in every situation. Samsung rates it IP68 and says it was tested in still freshwater up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes. Samsung advises against beach or pool use, and says resistance can diminish with wear.
What the S23 FE’s IP68 rating covers
Samsung’s product page describes the Galaxy S23 FE as IP68-rated and bases that rating on laboratory submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Those limits describe the stated test, not a guarantee for every real-world exposure. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 FE product page

Samsung’s EU-market user manual gives further test conditions: still freshwater, 15–35 °C and 86–106 kPa, for 30 minutes under IEC 60529 conditions. These are test parameters, not recommended conditions for using the phone. Samsung Galaxy S23 FE user manual

Samsung advises against beach or pool use, and the manual specifically says not to expose the phone to swimming-pool water or sea water. The freshwater rating does not establish protection in salt water, chlorinated water, or other liquids.

- Forceful or moving water: Samsung warns that a sudden increase in water pressure may exceed the guaranteed resistance level.
- Deep or prolonged submersion: Depth or duration beyond the stated test limits is not covered by the rating.
- Steam rooms and saunas: The manual warns that temperature changes can damage water-resistant performance.
Samsung has not published comparative S23 FE results for these different exposure scenarios, so these are boundaries and cautions—not measured predictions of what will happen in each case. Samsung user manual
What to do if the phone gets wet
- Wipe and dry it. Use a soft, clean cloth and let the phone dry thoroughly.
- Keep the USB-C port dry before connecting anything. Do not connect a charger or accessory until the multipurpose jack is completely dry.
- For unclean water or certain liquids, rinse with still fresh water. Samsung lists substances including soapy water, oil, perfume, sunscreen, hand cleaner, cosmetics, and alcohol-containing liquids. After rinsing, wipe with a soft, clean cloth and dry thoroughly.
- Check functionality after drying. A wet speaker or microphone can affect sound clarity, and the touchscreen or other features may not work properly while the phone is being used in water.
These steps follow Samsung’s care guidance; they do not restore resistance lost through damage or wear. Samsung user manual

Why the rating may not last forever
Samsung says water and dust resistance is not permanent and may diminish with normal wear. Its manual also warns that an external shock or physical damage can reduce resistance. A phone that has been dropped, damaged, or used for a long time should not be assumed to retain the original test performance. Samsung product page · Samsung user manual

No. Samsung lists Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back and a metal frame, but those materials do not expand the IP68 water-test conditions. Samsung also notes that the camera glass and certain buttons and the SIM tray are excluded from those material descriptions. Durable construction and a water-resistance rating are separate considerations. Samsung Galaxy S23 FE product page

Bottom line for everyday use
Treat the S23 FE’s IP68 rating as limited protection under Samsung’s stated freshwater test conditions—not permission to swim with it, take it to the beach, or expose it to forceful water. If it gets wet, dry it fully and keep the charging port disconnected until it is completely dry.
