Its 11.6-inch panel is a standard non-touch HD screen, so you should treat it as a conventional clamshell laptop. Samsung’s other Chromebook lines use different hardware, and some of them do offer touchscreens, so the answer applies only to the XE310XBA family.
What Samsung’s specifications list for input
Samsung’s US Business support page for the Chromebook 4, model XE310XBA, lists the input hardware as an island-style keyboard and a touchpad. Touch input for the display is not listed. The page is a manufacturer specification list rather than a sentence that says “not touchscreen,” so the conclusion rests on what is absent from the listed hardware as well as on what is present. The touchpad is the laptop’s built-in pointer surface, the flat area below the keyboard. It is not a touchscreen. If you see “touch” in a product description, check whether it refers to that pad or to the display.

The US specification lists an 11.6-inch HD LED display at 1366 × 768 resolution with an anti-reflective finish. The same size and resolution appear on Samsung’s regional pages, so the screen does not change by market in the listings reviewed.

Model names that look similar
- Samsung Chromebook 4 (XE310XBA): the subject of this article, with the 11.6-inch non-touch display described above.
- Chromebook 4+: a different model with different hardware. Do not apply the XE310XBA answer to it.
- Galaxy Chromebook and Galaxy Chromebook 2: separate Samsung families with their own configurations. Check their specifications individually.
When you search or shop, match the full model suffix, not just the words “Samsung Chromebook 4.”
Hardware configuration
Samsung’s 2020 US Business datasheet describes the family as using an Intel Celeron N4000 processor with Intel UHD Graphics 600. Memory options listed are 4 GB or 6 GB, and eMMC storage options are 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB. The datasheet’s US configuration table ties these options to XE310XBA product numbers. These are family-level specifications. They do not mean every market or retailer sells every combination.

Regional listings
Configurations differ between Samsung’s country sites, so check the listing for your market before you buy or order parts.

The battery figure
Samsung’s 2020 US Business datasheet claims “Up to 12.5 Hours” of battery life. The footnote says the result was measured under Google’s Scenario Power Load Test criteria, on a configuration with an Intel Celeron N4000, 4 GB memory, and 32 GB eMMC storage. This is Samsung’s own test claim for that setup. It is not a guarantee, and it does not reflect your workload, screen brightness, or the battery’s age. No independent battery test is cited in the sources reviewed.

The datasheet lists one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, and a headphone/microphone combo jack. These matter for connectivity but have no bearing on touch input.

Checking a listing before you buy
- Confirm the model name includes XE310XBA and that it is the Chromebook 4, not the Chromebook 4+ or a Galaxy Chromebook.
- Look for the display description: 11.6-inch HD, 1366 × 768. If the listing describes a touchscreen, it is not describing the XE310XBA as Samsung specifies it.
- Check the memory and storage against the configuration you want, since regional listings differ.
- Confirm current stock and price with the seller in your market, because the sources reviewed do not establish them.
If you need a touchscreen Chromebook, compare the specifications of the specific model you are considering. Do not assume the Chromebook 4 name carries touch input.
