The Panasonic NN-SD38HS is a discontinued Australian-market solo inverter microwave with 23 L capacity. Its published specifications make it possible to assess size and setup, but CHOICE’s public review page does not reveal its expert rating or cooking-test results. That means there is not enough public evidence here to call its performance good or poor; treat it as a used or remaining-stock option only after checking the exact model, condition and price.
What the NN-SD38HS specifications tell you
Panasonic Australia’s archived specifications classify the NN-SD38HS as a solo microwave with inverter technology, list 23 L capacity, and give exterior dimensions of 488 × 395 × 279 mm (W × D × H). CHOICE’s public review listing identifies a turntable and lists 1000 W output, six power levels and a 26 cm turntable. These are figures published by different sources, not a single independently reconciled specification sheet.

The exterior measurements differ between the two pages, so measure the actual unit or confirm its dimensions with the seller before buying. CHOICE also advises clearance of 15 cm above, 10 cm behind and 5 cm at each side, and says not to place the oven in a cabinet. Check the manual for the specific unit if available, and allow for ventilation rather than judging fit by the appliance’s width alone.

CHOICE has a product-specific review page for the NN-SD38HS, but its publicly visible page does not show the CHOICE Expert Rating, cooking performance scores, ease-of-use, defrosting or reheating results, or the review’s pros and cons. The page therefore confirms that an independent review exists, but the accessible information does not support a performance verdict. This article does not claim personal testing.

For a purchase decision, look for documented results or test the specific unit if buying second-hand. Check that controls respond, the door closes properly, the turntable rotates, and the oven heats a cup of water evenly enough for your needs. These are practical checks, not substitutes for a controlled cooking test or CHOICE’s withheld results.
Is the NN-SD38HS still available in Australia?
CHOICE marks the model as discontinued. That is the clearest available Australian availability signal, but it does not rule out residual retailer stock or second-hand units. CHOICE displays A$279 on its review page; this is a listed historical figure, not a verified current price or offer. Confirm the exact model number, whether the item is new or used, return terms and warranty before paying.

Do not confuse it with the NN-SD38
Panasonic France has a page for a similarly named NN-SD38, but that is a regional product designation and the listed specifications are not confirmed for the Australian NN-SD38HS. The French page gives 29 L capacity and a 288 mm glass turntable. Those figures should not be used to describe or compare the NN-SD38HS without manufacturer confirmation.

What to check before choosing one
- Confirm the identity: verify that the rating label says NN-SD38HS, not NN-SD38 or another regional model.
- Check practical fit: compare the seller’s unit measurements with your counter and preserve the ventilation clearances CHOICE specifies.
- Assess usable space: consider the 23 L capacity and CHOICE-listed 26 cm turntable together; the turntable diameter affects which dishes can rotate.
- Compare current alternatives: use documented capacity, turntable size, output, power control, cooking functions, footprint, ventilation needs, warranty and local price—not a similar model name alone.
- For a used unit: inspect the door, interior, controls and turntable, and ask whether the seller offers a return window or any warranty.
