What the SL400 offers
Ninja’s UK product page lists the SL400UK as the DoubleStack XL. In Australia, the same model number is sold as the DoubleStack XXXL. Check the full regional model suffix before buying, since naming, electrical specifications and included details can vary by market.

The UK specification gives the appliance 9.5L total capacity, divided between two 4.75L drawers. It measures 38.5 × 28 × 47cm (height × width × depth), weighs 10.3kg and is rated at 2470W. Ninja lists six functions: Air Fry, Max Crisp, Roast, Bake, Dehydrate and Reheat. The official SL400UK product page lists two non-stick drawers, two crisper plates, two multi-layer racks and an instruction booklet in the box, and describes the components as dishwasher-safe.
Will it fit your kitchen?
The stacked design saves counter width compared with a conventional side-by-side dual-drawer fryer, but it is not a compact appliance in every direction. At 47cm deep and 38.5cm tall, it needs a meaningful amount of space, and its side-mounted control panel can make placement fiddly. Measure the counter area—including depth—and allow operating clearance and ventilation rather than judging fit by width alone.

Capacity in litres does not tell the whole story. Each drawer is relatively deep and narrow, so the layout works better for portions and foods that can be arranged in layers than for a large, flat item cooked whole. TechRadar notes that an uncut pizza does not fit and considers the eight-portion claim ambitious. In her review for Woman & Home, Laura Honey estimated four to six people in her experience, rather than treating the manufacturer’s serving claim as a dependable meal-size guarantee. These are practical assessments, not fixed limits for every menu.
How evenly does it cook?
In Laura Honey’s tests for Woman & Home, chips cooked for 20 minutes at 200°C without shaking browned unevenly: the front pieces were close to burning while those at the rear were less cooked. A later batch, cooked for 16 minutes with a halfway shake, turned out well. In a separate fish-finger test, front pieces crisped while rear pieces stayed softer and needed more time.

Those results come from one reviewer’s tests, not a guarantee that every batch will cook unevenly. They do indicate that food placement and mid-cook handling can matter. For fries, chips and other foods that benefit from movement, plan to shake, turn or rearrange them partway through, and check doneness rather than relying only on the timer.

Some vegetable pieces caught in the grate; the rice bowl needed attention to timing; and the brownies baked through but were lighter than her preferred fudgy texture. The range of results suggests useful versatility, but not that every recipe will work without adjustments.

What are the two drawers and racks useful for?
Two separate drawers let you cook different foods in parallel, while the multi-layer racks add cooking space within the stacked format. The Australian product page describes Smart Finish, which coordinates two foods with different settings to finish together, and Match Cook, which copies settings across zones. Check the features and supplied accessories for the exact regional SKU you are considering; product naming and specification details are market-specific.
The workflow is most useful when the foods need different temperatures or cooking times but should reach the table together. The racks can help make use of vertical space, though arranging food across levels still calls for sensible spacing and checking. Is it easy to clean?
Ninja describes the components on its UK page as dishwasher-safe. Honey found the non-stick drawers straightforward to wash by hand, but noted that vegetable debris caught in the rear grate and took extra effort to remove. Do not assume that every individual part is dishwasher-safe unless the instructions for your regional model confirm it. A silicone utensil may help lift small pieces from the grate; that is a practical suggestion from the reviewer, not an included or Ninja-approved accessory.

How does it compare with a side-by-side dual-basket fryer?
The choice is a trade-off between counter shape, cooking shape and value—not simply the printed capacity. The SL400 keeps the appliance narrower by stacking its drawers, while a side-by-side design can offer a broader cooking area and may be easier for large, flat foods. TechRadar characterizes the DoubleStack as expensive relative to dual-basket alternatives. Honey says the larger, side-by-side Ninja AF400 can offer more capacity and performance for less money, at the cost of taking up more counter space. Prices change, so compare current listings rather than relying on an old price comparison.

- Choose the SL400 if: counter width is the constraint, you can accommodate its height and depth, and you value two zones plus rack space.
- Consider side-by-side instead if: you have room for a wider unit, often cook large flat foods, or want to prioritize the broader layout and value described in the reviews.
Who should buy the Ninja DoubleStack SL400?
The SL400 makes the most sense for households that need two cooking zones but cannot spare as much counter width as a side-by-side model needs. It offers useful flexibility through its separate drawers and racks, but its 9.5L headline capacity should be weighed against the foods you cook and the space available—not read as a promise to feed a particular number of people. If your usual meals include fries or other foods that need even browning, be prepared to shake or turn them during cooking.
